They had to CHANGE THE LAWS OF FOOTBALL to accommodate VAR! How ridiculas ! It was touted has helping referees to reach the right decisions, but the VAR guys are now the ones making the decisions. " We are not going to referee th game" - that is exactly what VAR is doing. "Clear and obvious errors" ? They are checking EVERY GOAL, going back 2 or 3 phases of play to check for any slight infringement. If the ref, ,lino's, benches, fans and TV haven't spotted anything it is not clear or obvious. Hand ball of any kind is given as a penalty, contact of any kind in the box is given as a penalty - but not anywhere else ? The referee should be the one to ASK for confirmation of their decisions, and the decision he has just made, NOT the VAR official calling the shots in a room. I understand that rugby is different because there are more deadbolt situations, which give time for reviews, however football ball can take lessons from rugby in that the referee ASKS for confirmation, or a specific infringement- not the TMO calling him up and telling him they have seen something, or are just checking the play anyway.
