Makita Hammer Drill Damage Was Not What I Expected - Repaired BHP451
In this video I discover that somebody has been less than careful with a Makita BHP451 hammer drill. Fortunately my Makita scrapyard comes up trumps with a part from a deceased BHP452 and I'm able to to repair it.

    • @ShedTV
      @ShedTV Před 13 dny

      Hello mate, There's no LED on this one. Since making the video I've used the DSS610, which is basically the same unit but with an electronic brake which stops the blade when you release the trigger and an LED worklight. It felt more controlled and I think it's worth the extra few quid. I've not tried a Milwaukee, for no other reason than I'm set up with Makita batteries.

    Is it not to many volts for it though

    • @ShedTV
      @ShedTV Před měsícem

      My old drill was also 18v. You could also use a 18v battery on a 14v or even 12v drill, but it will spin faster, and if you work it hard it might overheat. To be honest, with the fact that the old ni-cad drills are worthless now it would probably be worth the gamble. The other thing to say is that this vido is seven years old, LXT drills are much cheaper now and secondhand ones can be had for less the price of an adaptor in many cases.

    Pop a slightly pointed red hot rod down the chuck hole for ten seconds or so so you heat the left hand screw head as it's likely set in with a thermoplastic glue .

    Hello can I plug the following tig welder into a normal house hold socket. This one is from machimart at just under 100 pounds product is the CLARKE MMA/TIG120 120 AMP INVERTER MMA/TIG WELDER It comes with a 13 amp fitted plug so i understand from the specification details Thanks and let me know please

    • @malcolmyoung7866
      @malcolmyoung7866 Před 2 měsíci

      Hello, I have two welders one a 'Lidl Special' and a Eland Mig 230 that is an industrial machine but still single phase (240V). Both my machines work off of a normal plug socket although I'm thinking of 'upgrading' the Eland up to a 16 AMP dedicated plug socket. The Lidl machine has never tripped a breaker in the 5 years I have used it and yesterday I had it running on an 20m extension cable (at one point welding for 30 secs continuously)...No problems at all. I wouldn't be too worried about your set up I think your home supply should be okay and it will let you know quickly if its not happy. Fuses and breakers do that for you it would ony be a 'worry' if the machine had been modified or tampered with in some way.

    Any tips how to remove a stuck screw?

    • @ShedTV
      @ShedTV Před 3 měsíci

      This can be very difficult. A good quality screwdriver which fits the slot in the screw is key. Preferably with a good sized handle for maximum leverage. Perversely, you may loosen it by trying to turn a quarter turn the other way (anti-clockwise in this case), before trying to undo it. I know some people have had success using an impact driver, but if you strip the head you are in a whole world of pain and misery, potentially drilling out the screw or cutting off the chuck.

    Nice video thanks, still helping people years later. I had a lot of freestanding racking in my garage but it was taking up too much space and I wanted to use the garage as a workshop not just a storage area! I never considered this twin slot stuff before in the past (no idea why) but now that i've started using it it's so fast to install in a garage! I have a laser level on a tripod, I project a line onto the wall at the intended middle screw hole of the uprights and then marked at 60cm intervals. Drilled the holes and attached the uprights loosely with a single screw, then used a spirit level to make sure they were bolt upright, and then marked the additional screw holes with a tracer deep hole marker as required. That's the fastest approach i've found and my shelves are perfectly level. Excluding any jigsawing of the shelves around cable conduits etc it only took around 30 mins per 2m run of shelves.

    I had a similar problem with mine (the screw was not jammed though, but the thread of the chuck itself) and solved it that way: I removed the plastic cover of the chuck and disassembled the gearbox (I was a bit afraid of that but it is actually easier than one would think). After removing several layers of cogwheels, I saw the shaft. I fastened the now stripped chuck in a vice and used a socket spanner to loosen the shaft from the other side. It was tough, but ultimately worked. After that, I reassembled the gearbox and installed the new chuck.

    Thanks! Might wanna add: The chuck can get slightly damaged, as well as the L-Key that you are using. So only do it if you really want to change out the entire chuck. The screw however, I would try to loosen on arrival of a new machine. It has loctite on it and tightens over time. Tried to undo it on a used drill at work which was at least a decade old but it didnt work out and I stripped the screw.

    Your video is very good. However, I have a Makita DHP481 cordless drill, I tried everything you mentioned here and also from other videos available on CZcams. Unfortunately for me, Makita has glued the chuck to the spindle so the only way to remove it was by heating it with a torch. By the time you heat it to the point of breaking the bond, your whole machine is not recoverable anymore. There is a lot of plastic in the gearbox. So if you have one DHP481 which is the heavy-duty one, you must take it to Makita Authorised Service or probably better buy a new one.
