I'm Valerie :). I enjoy gardening, traveling, and spending time with my chickens. In the summer of 2021, my family and I walked the Camino de Santiago. For many years, I have wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail. Current circumstances are allowing me to finally achieve my dream of thru hiking the A.T. I hope you enjoy my videos. Happy hiking!

Being in the area, I decided to take a detour to see the Kilauea Volcanic Eruption this morning. It was amazing, and the videos don’t do it any justice!

@@ValsLife1 Thanks! Sounds like good advice. I hope to at least do some section hiking before then. Sounds like a good way to learn.
23 miles of stunning views in one day!
The colors on the trees were incredibly beautiful!!!!!!
What a journey this has been for you! You got to see the trees get their leaves in spring, the flowers bloom in summer, and now the leaves change color!

Val I'm Bob Kathy's husband man YOU are a TROOPER. You absolutely crushed it. You can in no way feel as though you left anyone down. I've followed you the whole way and am truly amazed at how well you did. I'm in rocksylvania and hike the A/T here often as well as N.J. and some in N.H. You are a true inspiration. I hope you forgive yourself for getting off trail. I never could do what you've done. Thank You.
We love you, Val. We’re very proud of you.
Most people don't even take the first step to undertake such a journey. And you had the fortitude to conquer some many steps. Your journey is just that yours and yours alone - you name the beginning, middle, and end. I hope no one questions that. You accomplished a huge thing and should never feel like you let yourself or anyone else down. I was born and raised in Maine. The daughter of a naturalist/park ranger so I have long experienced Maine and New Hampshire's "hiking" trails. I have also lived in other areas of the country and experienced those "hiking" trails. Everything is relative and what is called hiking in one place is rock climbing in another. So I get ya. If there's one thing Maine and its neighbor, New Hampshire, have a lot of it's rocks and don't get me started on the endless roots here in Maine (being over 90% forested will do that to a state). I'm a native and have been taken down by rocks and roots countless times and gotten so frustrated at times I've thrown both my trekking poles and my hands up in the air. The terrain is hard - don't let anyone convince you otherwise. If some day you want to come back and finish the AT great but only do it if you truly are comfortable in doing so. If not, and you are ever able financially to do it, come on back up and visit Maine. There are so many beautiful trails that don't involve rock climbing - state parks, land trusts, and preserves are plentiful here. I hope you and your husband were able to have a shared birthday celebration of some kind when you got home. Happy Belated Birthday to you both!
Thanks! I’m thinking about going back next month and hiking SOBO from Katahdin with different shoes that have better grip, and maybe some knee pads. Doing that will reduce the timeless stress and I can take my time.
@@ValsLife1 If you do return to do SOBO one thing to keep in mind is that in September here in Maine it can get down into the 40s at night. So far this year has been warmer than average so might trend a few degrees warmer, but overnight lows in 40s are definitely something to prepare for in terms of your apparel/gear. Hope that helps. I'd offer to come out and hike some of Maine with ya but work is crazy right now in terms of my scheduling so not sure my availability yet with any certainty.
@@gabytheonedd2695 Thank you! I do prefer hiking and sleeping in the cold. I have the gear for it. Thanks for the info! :)
Sweetie you didn't let anyone down. You're a champion 🏆❤️ 🙏🙏👏👏I understand that you are doing what is best for you. You've already done more than most hikers will do.Good luck to you and God bless you always 🙏🙏💞
Sorry, but I had to unsubscribe. Your complaining just isn't enjoyable. You complained about people not doing their job, when you were the one in the wrong. Also, if you had researched Mt. Washington, you would have watched the camera at the top to see that it was very iffy conditions there. People have died because they were unprepared for the conditions. Everything is everyone else's fault. This is the first comment I have ever made that was not positive.
I apologize. I’m done with the hike anyway. I was having a very negative experience in that part.
Great gear loadout! Thanks for sharing (new sub and friend)
Excellent sharing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Spectacular views 😍 Stay safe and strong.Thank you for sharing your epic journey with us 🙏🙏🙏🥾🥾👏👍💪❤️☕
The views and clouds were amazing and thank you for sharing. My daughter is older so she went out of town on her birthday and mine was last week and I never got out of bed. Migraine. I’m sorry you might not be home but you have done an amazing job. A lot of the rest of the trail is rock but don’t quit. Just take it easy, go slow, have a good mindset and when you get home you can party for a week! Several have quit I have read, please just hang in there. Enjoy the beautiful earth God has made. I wish I had done it earlier in life. Have a good day.
Hang in there you're doing good. Just don't be above tree line in bad weather. Just wait it out till it clears Stay safe Thank you for sharing your journey 🙏🙏🙏 🥾🥾💪👍❤️☕
Val you will have to do less miles on some of the White's. Others some days only get 7 to 9 . Talk to the people at the Hut they are pretty knowledgeable on how rugged the next scretch is. You should get a card for reduced price on camping and free bowl of soup and baked item and free breakfast sometimes. Helps make your food last longer. Prayer's for you sweetie . Stay safe and strong. Thank you for sharing your epic journey 💞🙏🙏🙏🥾🥾👍💪❤️☕
Why do you prefer your tent to the shelters?
