Sounds like an awful movie based off of a poorly written book. Am I right? The only thing that sounds authentic is that a schoolgirl might actually think people would care what she had to say after killing herself. Like a girl's suicide is some Scooby mystery that needs to be solved. As if! The reality is that no one ever cares why someone took the coward's way out. Nobody! People just don't care, and no cassette tape or journal from the grave will make their reasoning sound any less stupid. Suicide is stupid, and if you wanted your argument heard, you'd stick around to make it. People who commit suicide think they are somehow making a statement like, "I'll show them," but truthfully, once a person offs themselves, people just think, "I thought he was smarter than that, he must have been pretty messed up." Truly, this show is fiction. No one would care! She's gone already! No one cares enough to read a suicide note or listen to tapes or read journals to understand the suicidal mind, not even someone's parents! Nobody. If it wasn't murder and it wasn't an accident or cancer, no one cares. People might ask "Why?" at a funeral, but they know they're not gonna get an answer, and any answer left in a note or a journal or a tape would be shallow, stupid and juvenile. 13 Stupid Reasons sounds like a better title for this... Brad broke up with me, the whole school says I'm fat, my parents hate me because I'm bisexual, I flunked Algebra... If there was a smart reason for suicide, we'd all be dead. Of course it's a stupid reason, and people just don't care once you are dead because if you didn't want to deal with the drama, why should they? That's reality, and I wonder what crappy message the show actually delivers to young people. Then again, if some forgettable teen drama encourages you to take a dirt nap, more power to you. If a movie makes you want to die by your own hand, then that's on you. The only thing it might prove is that perhaps Darwin was right about natural selection. Really, unless you're jumping on a grenade in wartime, we all know that suicide is stupid and everyone living knows it already and the ones who don't agree either write silly young adult fiction fairy tales or have already put themselves six feet under. In reality, it is much easier for the living to find closure by moving on and forgetting about a girl doing herself in rather than ever stealing a walkman or even caring whether there are backup copies of a dead schoolgirl's ravings held by some Secret Santa or tucked in the glove compartment of The Mystery Machine. Even if it wasn't forty-five minutes of trash about makeup, prom dates and whether her shoes match her earrings, people just wouldn't care. Even if it was about the person listening, it would sound juvenile and stupid. If someone had something to say to me and wanted to make sure that I heard it, then she would have said it to me while she was alive. Truly, no one cares what someone who killed themselves once thought, and no movie can ever change that. All that supposed interest of what anyone had to say before their suicide is really just a schoolgirl's fantasy written in a storybook. Silly fiction. It's just not the way it is and anyone who has lived long enough knows I'm absolutely right.
