Building Wooden Plank Ceilling
I finally replaced the old ceilling in the main room of the house. The old ceilling was severely damaged by leaking water, the new ceilling is a type of ceilling common in local houses build in 18th and 19th centuries.
The whole can be (and was!) built by only two people and some pulleys.

Drilling a Well by Hand and getting Free Water
zhlédnutí 2,7KPřed 10 měsíci
This is the second video of two-part serie, documenting drilling a 5.5m/18ft well with no power tools. In this part I continue drilling the well. I insert a plastic well pipe into the borehole, to prevent the walls from collapsing. The gravel functions as a filter, preventing any soil or sand particles entering the well with the water. I have built a stone and concrete base around the well pipe...

Drilling a well with hand auger, with 200mm diameter. I determined the spot for drilling, by watching the property and seeing where the plants seemed to grow fastest, and remained green even during dry months. I also looked up old maps, and found out that a stream was flowing in this spot, before it was redirected sometime in 19th century. My thinking was that water would be still flowing under...

As I have lots and lots of scrap wood from decostructions lying around, I decided to put it to good use. The pickets are 120cm long and 25mm/1 inch thick with varying width. This will extend their lifetime by quite a bit, compared to traditional way of using untreated posts with burned ends that go directly into the ground. The wood is not...

Building REAL wood beam ceiling

As the old ceiling in my house were in a very bad shape I had to build new one. The way I do it, is how wood beam and plank ceiling would be constructed in the past. It is very simple style of ceiling, the reason, why it was abandoned on most houses from more recent times is that it needs very thick outer walls of the house. I tried to reuse some of the beams that were part of the old ceiling, ...

    Thank you for sharing. I do have a question, though. Do you find that having a flat mouth opening is better than a traditional raised opening as in the silver flute profile when getting a better , or should I say with a less hesitation in the production of sound. The silver flute allows for lip placement. So, would it also be possible to make a wooden version of that type of lip plate? Have you ever made a flute with a separate head joint or tunable slide joint?

    I like those style of drills. It seems they come from poland...it seems to be a better system than the seymore augers that you add pipe too to extend the lenght..that would have to be pull everything out every time! My soil seems to be the same type, how long did it take you to drill as deep as you did with that type of drill system?

    • @JJChWorkshop
      @JJChWorkshop Před 2 měsíci

      Hello, yes, these drills are made in Poland, and I can recommend it (I am not sponsored in any way, they really do work). It took me like a week, drilling for 2-3 hours every day after work. I had to take breaks often though, it is a tiring work, two guys switching after 15 minutes in a reasonable soil could do this over weekend.

      @@JJChWorkshop hi thanks for the information, I have drilled a well before but by not that method you are using I used the percussion method, yes it is very tiring work, made it to 60 ft with percussion/cable tool method, it's slow and was looking for something a little bit faster. You did a fine job! I will be looking at one of those style drills! Thank you very much!

    Super work with simple tools, and I love the tone you achieved! My wooden ocarinas only play for a few minutes before the "labium" (wedge that splits the air) gets saturated and loses its sharpness. Does Cherry wood somehow prevent this? I'm going to try inlaying a veneer of antler in the latest one when I get the enthusiasm back.

    • @JJChWorkshop
      @JJChWorkshop Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks, using hardwood like cherry definetly helps, you can also saturete the Wood with oil ( i use lineseed oil). You can even submerge the whole ocarina in oil overnight, And than let the instrument dry over few days. This Will make the labium very durable.
