      @@jasonalwaysreadyyt Disagree with Mike. That model looks really nice. The heavy, rusty weathered look gives a unique touch. I reckon that since this heavy weathering is not the way GW paints, some fans may see this as too much but this is exactly how I imagine vehicles would look like after long battles.

    I think not being able to totally rub off the oils, actually helped you out when adding texture, as it has more nuance to the white and looks more realistic. I must admit I've not touched oil washes yet. I bought some Ivory black and some burnt umber, but I never got the spirits to mix it (and keep forgetting to) I really need to try this technique. I do have some Isopropanol though, so I wonder f this will work.

    I've not watched the whole thing yet, going to check it out later. just wanted to ask though, for your capillary, panel lining did you use a special product or just add some flow improver to paint or something, please? EDIT: ah I see you are using the Tamiya stuff. I like their products. I'm doing brown lines though, so would have to see if I can colour match something in this product or not. I know you can make your own though, just by putting some flow improver into some paint, and some people even just do it with water. Will have to experiment. These smaller guys, I think this tech will be very useful for them, I've not done it before though. I usually paint them in manually. I like using black contrast paint for black lines at the moment, it works really well. Admittedly this was for a slightly different style of panel lining though, where only one side has an edge, so it was more about building up pigment at the edge, and then cutting back in with the red to get a crisp line. You can also glaze out a fade from the black line as well, just depends what you are going for. I've been meaning to look up this capillary-action style of panel lining though, and just keep forgetting about it. Just stumbled upon your channel when looking at Tau schemes on google.

    found this video as a new miniature painter. Is the panel liner similar to nuln oil?

    • @jasonalwaysreadyyt
      @jasonalwaysreadyyt Před rokem

      Similar but different. Nuln oil is a wash that is sometimes slathered everywhere on a model. A panel liner is made for panel lines and crevices, will usually look better tidy. Nuln oil is a wash that is acrylic based and will have a softer effect. Panel liner is oil(?) based and will be opaque and bold. Nuln oil cleans up and can be modified with water. Panel liner will need a solvent base to remove and clean. Happy painting!

    i'm new to the hobby. built this guy last night, primed him black and will work on him this weekend. my question is, what does putting a coat of white over black primer do? i get the grey zenithial being bright progressing to darker gray towards the bottom, but is the initial black primer doing anything with it completely covered in white, or is it just there to hold the white paint?

    • @jasonalwaysreadyyt
      @jasonalwaysreadyyt Před rokem

      If i was a better painter and used thinner paints over many layers, the zenithal would help provide a more eye and light pleasing gradient to the model. If you are painting a mostly white model and are not pro, you could probably skip the initial black spray. Thanks for watching!

      I'm a secret weeb. :O but I like the aesthetic and the gundams. I also better liked the idea of a gun line army, so I have big hopes on a new codex. :D

      Not exactly sure what you mean, but I think you're referring to the Tamiya panel line accent color. Otherwise leave a timestamp and I can try to answer more!

      That's my favorite part. I'm going to try be more bold than bits of mud and rocks on a base. Some of my latest models use sprue for fenceposts.

      Thanks! Not all of them got this level of effort. The panel liner is great, best with a dull cote before you use it and clean up with white spirits. Definitely darker than something like nuln oil.

  • @Thorn16
    @Thorn16 Před 3 lety

    Can I use Nuln Oil instead of Liner? And can I paint over the Liner with my base coat if I want my colors cleaner?

    • @jasonalwaysreadyyt
      @jasonalwaysreadyyt Před 3 lety

      Yes and yes. But I would clean up the liner with white spirits instead of painting over it.
