    WD40 is a Degreaser more so than a lubricant. It CAN gunk up the insides. Especially if Microtech just so happened to use White Lithium Grease on the springs. If using a Ultratech: what you need; toothpicks, qtips, no particulate cloth, REMington Oil, or Heretic OTF Lube, Ballistol is ok. White Lithium Grease, Compressed Air. 1. Unscrew the glass breaker 2. Insert air can and spray generously 3. Just A FEW drops of Heretic OTF Lube/REMington Oil 4. Run the action 5. One tiny dab in front of actuator and one tiny dab behind 6. Run the action 7. If blade sticks in the retract more than 3 times out of 10 openings then ( see number 9 ) 8. Clean/wipe off excess oil 9. If blade keeps sticking you can either send the knife back to Microtech paying the shipping or you can do it yourself. 10. Take the knife apart, the oil and grease if there is some or there is none will gunk up after awhile, or if none the parts will be rubbing together creating unwanted friction 11. With a microfiber cloth, or cloth with ZERO particulates NO PAPER TOWELS. Wipe EVERYTHING AWAY. 12. Using a toothpick put just a little White Lithium Grease on the tip and spread along the springs 13. The oil, just needs about 4 drops in important places. Along the Railing system, where the springs connect to the locks Just a tad by the stop pin, and just a tad where the railing system slides. Sounds like alot of work but it really isn’t, this is what i do instead of sending it in for maintenance. You can buy the tool bits for cheap on EKnives.com

    I have every Microtech and I have a Manticore E Tanto Magnacut - I would say in current configuration as of today they are equal however, in the very near future the updated Ultratech comes out with a Titanium and silicone carbide pocket clip, the dual fuel system which deploys a bit nicer than the manticore but the big deal for me - it will have the zero blade play system all included for about $350. With these upgrades, I don’t think anything comes close.

      It is debatable, but youre probably right, its mostly fine without oil but this is a good method to clean it out, and considering there is steel on steel moving parts, a little thin oil can be a good idea to prolong the life, also in my experience wd40 is a solvent and temporary lubricant, but it dries out, where as remoil is just very thin oil. Very poorly tuned return springs, it can be fixed if you take it apart then just remove the return springs and go to your local hardware store and try to find some that have similar tension as the deploy springs or contact any good otf manufacturer and they may sell you thier springs and this baby should be tuned up nicely! Also try a bit of powdered graphite in the moving parts as it is a dry lubricant that works well in OTF autos

    Nice review, Gavin does some phenomenal work. So nice, I bought it twice…..yes, I own two of these, worth every damn penny. Never was a fan of OTF because of the knife play, when this came along, I knew I had to own one (more like two). This thing has a SOLID lockup, almost as good as a full tang. The action is also smooth and gets smoother with time. I plan to take these out and make them my (almost) EDC. Wish I would have gotten in on the John Wick version drop, but I had to hold back due to cost. Also, remember knife laws are weird, so get one now while you can, no saying when these will be impossible to buy.

    IMHO the Tahoma Field Knife is the best tool you can take to the wilderness. I won’t go into the bush without it. Bought my first one 9 years ago and my second one a month later. I got TOPS to serrate the top edge on my second one, similar to the Bianchi Nighthawk II. I like to have a serrated blade but can’t stand it on the primary edge. This was a great compromise. Andy Tran told me that IF he was going to serrate the blade that’s where he would put it. The screwdriver bit was put there by Andy so he could use it to set up his photography equipment. The hole is a bullet puller. The TFK is one of my five absolute favorite knives. 👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸 New subscriber here.

    I want one, just too much out of my budget

      Thats fair. Protechs are pricey, theyre usually worth the price but you can get great quality knives for less aswell 😁

      Same, i always put a 20 degree edge in most ny knives with the field sharpener which is actually my favorite Sharpener just cause of the convenience

    I only have a couple of OTF clones. I've had the real Microtech ultratech I think that was like 14 years ago in my first collection. And I've had the Infidel twice and I don't have either one of those. Tell me how to answer just cool factor it's not something I really use for self-defense or anything. Same with most autos. But I sure do love knives and I do like buying autos. This one looks really nice but it's way out of my $ league I'm sure!

    • @straighttothepoint3477
      @straighttothepoint3477 Před 2 měsíci

      That is fair, i think a microtech otf is also a great option for a fraction of the price as this deadlock. The deadlock is really the perfect otf but mainly ideal for serious collectors. Youre right, no one needs to spend that much on a knife haha

      @straighttothepoint3477 yeah but hey to reach their own, and if you like it and you got it, spend it! It's damn sure a nice collection piece.

    I'm thinking about buying this. But the thing the knuckle thing, I think those are kind of useless. If you put it on your keychain and use it as a thumper, that would be all right, but putting it on your hand it's not going to give you any advantage. Brass knuckles now that's a different story.

    • @straighttothepoint3477
      @straighttothepoint3477 Před 2 měsíci

      I agree with you on the knuck thing, ive done alot of experimenting with it trying to make it feel comfortable while actually hitting something, it is pretty uncomfortable to use. Same with actual brass knucks in my opinion. But i do have thinner hands and fingers compared to some so that might be why

    Plenty of internet commandos in these comments not realizing that the clinch pick is a purpose built knife designed by an U.S. Army Ranger lol if you hurt yourself with it, its because you're a dork who has no actual training. Its an excellent knife for tight spots and crappy situations.

      I agree man! A great close quarter self defense tool! I bought this thing when the clinch pick 2.0 dropped a long time ago, and still probably the most versatile/ easy to draw/ conveinient little piece

    Remember to remove the ceramic rod once in a while and clean it with dish detergent, warm water ab a rough sponge. I just did mine after having it loaded up with steel. It was all black and wouldn't work anymore. After I cleaned it, it was clean and white and worked like new.

      A high polymer eraser works well for a quick clean between actually pulling it out and washing it as well.

    I found one for $399 and picked it up. Well worth it IMO. I wear it while riding a bike as "just in case" defense and it's easy to forget it's in my pocket. I need something so light that I can forget it's there.

    • @straighttothepoint3477
      @straighttothepoint3477 Před 2 měsíci

      @@straighttothepoint3477 It disappears into the pocket. After you've gotten used to something so thin & light I don't think you'd want to go back to a pocket brick EDC. And it's razor sharp out of the box. I don't love the pocket clip but that's a minor complaint.
