What horrible writing and this show is terrible, but the legend of Lucille Ball as the first lady of comedy still stands. No one greater than Lucy. She deserved so much better than who ever wrote this horrible scripts.
ABC should have aired the remaining 5 episodes of Life With Lucy instead of kicking the series off the air as unceremoniously as they did. Now days that network keeps shows on with a fraction of the viewership Life With Lucy did. One such sitcom that has hung on is The Conners which has had a steady drop in viewers and has half the audience Life With Lucy did.
Between the actress who played her daughter screaming every line as if the entire cast and crew were deaf and the audience hooping and hollering every time Lucy opened her mouth...it was pure CRINGE!!!
Lucy was great in this, the problem wasn’t her or Gale, it is in the writing. This feels like the writing was trying to hard to be like her more successful TV shows (I Love Lucy to Here’s Lucy). I think if they would’ve given Gale and Lucy would’ve been less of there previous characters it would’ve been great
While her peers (Audrey Meadows, Betty White, etc.) had adapted to the times and doing edgier shows that tackled modern issues, Lucille Ball didn't. She was playing versions of goofy Lucy Ricardo when that type of humor was outdated.
Was this truly as bad as the critics said it was? I decided to try a few episodes Well, the opening credits didn’t fill me with a lot of hope. Here was Lucy, in what appeared to be a red fright wig and 1/2lb of pancake makeup, hideously overacting and gurning as if she’d trying to reach the nosebleeds Whilst it was commendable that she kept many of her old cast and crew, the comedy climate was changing. Dialogue had become more natural and the “I say my line, and you don’t speak/cross over it” gave the scripts a stilted feeling. And the slapstick? Ooooh! The slapstick. It might have been hilarious when Lucy flooded the kitchen with soap suds in the 50s 30 years on & countless repeats of that gag and it seems dated…and drags on! Not helped by an aging (albeit still spry) leading lady. Another problem is that as funny and accomplished as Gale Gordon and Lucille are, their scenes seem to be at the expense of the rest of the cast. It felt at times like her family were superfluous Had Desi Arnez been in better health, I wonder if he’d have advised her NOT to do this. It was not a fitting swansong to such a talented lady
First time ever watching this show. Lucy and Gordon are great, the rest of the cast oof! Their acting is terrible. Especially Margo and Ted. Such a shame I would have enjoyed seeing Lucy as a grandma. Who the hell was in charge of casting and direction? They should have been canceled not the show.

This show was already dated when it premiered. Fact is, she and the writers were just recycling the same stuff from her three previous shows. She'd been playing "Lucy Ricardo" for 500ish episodes, what more could they do with the character?
I am 66 years old and I remember lucy then I was a child in kindergarten. And of course that vitameatavegamin commercial which has me in stiches every time I watch it. Lucy's birthday is coming up Aug. 6 the same date as my mom who passed away a long time ago. I miss my mom and I miss lucy. I recently viewed the movie stone pillow a very important serious movie, which starred Lucy in 1985. And this episode of life with Lucy was funny and serious at the same time. I think it was a message, that summed up her life and the life of all of us who are luck to grow old.
I thought this show was fine… I was thrilled at the time to see her back on primetime, and thought they pulled it away too soon!! She was so into it, and that was fun to watch. I didn’t mind the comedy was so physical, slapstick, a little out of step with the times, -but put her together with someone like Ritter and the great Gale Gordon… And you had some magic cooking. Plus Eydie Gourmet doing your theme song! This show “had legs”…
Another great episode. Am wondering why they didn't have real life retired Judge Joseph Wapner do a cameo as himself since he was the judge on The People's Court at that time - or maybe he was asked and his fee would have been above the show's budget? This was one episode that showed it's sometimes helpful to have a family member that's a law student and therefore able to find a loophole to save the day. Am wondering if the law regarding recission of contracts due to error (regarding perceived value of item) is real and is enforced in all 50 states? I would have thought someone like Mrs. Loomis could have a valid defense of finders keepers, losers weepers - she seemed to think she had when she was asking an extortionate amount to return the teddy bear - she was definitely an opportunist just like the woman who tried to pass off a stuffed bunny for a stuffed teddy bear.
One of the best episodes of this short lived series. Where I worked back when this aired didn't get computers until 14 years later (in 1999, same year that I got one for home). Let me tell you there was some growing pains and a learning curve involved - and I'm an intelligent baby boomer with a college degree - can you imagine what it was like for Lucy and Curtis who were from the greatest generation or earlier? At least from this episode I learned when I first saw it never to put anything magnetic near a PC and to save backup sheets. It's a wonder that the writers (who did Lucy's other series) didn't include a scene where they tried to go to the city dump to retrieve the inventory sheets. On ILL, there was a "Bonus Bucks" episode where they went to a laundry to retrieve a winning dollar bill. Any one catch that Dave Madden who guest starred as the salesman was also on Alice (also written by Lucy's team) as Earl Hicks, one of Flo's boyfriends or earlier as Reuben Kincaid, manager of The Partridge Family?
This would have been a good show if they didn't makr her so ditsy. You can tell Lucy time was over. I know so many have said it but the jokes reminds me of the Lucy show and this didnt work for this show.. lucy and gale time was over
They really should have matured Lucy at this point as those gags of being an airhead woman who meant well was not believable for an elderly woman. They could have did more gags like Lucy having to use modern technology at the time such as asking for a record collection when everyone was using cassette tapes. I think they missed the boat on not making Lucy and Gale a married retired elderly couple. A good episode could have been Gale was already retired and was convincing Lucy to finally retire. They could have made her business executive who couldn't let go but was agreed it was time to move on, that could have been a good first two episodes.
