can your mum to learn a different instrument
What a nice looking car, lovely way that it sits. Certainly in the spirit of the real car..
So nice, Alfie’s eye roll to you says it all...
Ah this is a good configuration too....more project thought. Good inspiration... yer a bad influence on me!! Thank you ;)
If I were to make this design of trtack again I would make the "cross overs" at a greater angle. As ir is there is a fairly long dead spor for the cars where they do not get power. Also wuth the shallow angle that I have used, it is hard to hit the correct speed for the cars to cross the crossing without the guide making a "thud". You can hear the thud at the start of this clip. czcams.com/video/UY0lHx9a6A0/video.html
Thank for sharing, It flows really well both ways :)
Dave I am just building a copy of this track, do you think this lane system would work going anti clockwise or might it somehow upset the "flow" that you have here? Thank you so much for this.
Right. If I was building this track again, I would make the "ovals" to be aligned with the sides of the track. When I made this track it was for the FibreSlots "Hot Rods" and as these race clock-wise I had off-set the ovals to gain more slideout room on the exit of the corners. As stock cars race anti-clock-wise this room is lost when used by the stock cars on this track. So by aligning the ovals with the edges of the board, racing in ether direstion the "slide out room woild be equal. On all of my tracks I hace fitted DTDP switchs so that it is easy to run the tracks in ether direction. Do you intend to use copper tape or braid for your track ? Note to save space on the track I have a seperate board with the 3 pin 2 amp sockets that the controllers plug into. This board then connects to the track via small jack plugs and sockets. Having the controller sockets built into the track would be simpler, but you loose some space. Any questions please feel free to ask, you can always Email me at the address at the end of the videos.
@@daveatwinterslane Brilliant thank you Dave, I rather dived in last night and started to rout the board. I had slightly suspected about the exit room and allowed a little more but I didn’t want to deviate from your design, which works so well. One more question here and then I will shift to email.. do you do several shallow passes when you rout \ route? your slots? There is more to this track design than meets the eye, I think it is going to make a very small track a lot of fun! Oh I forgot to say, copper tape. This is a very scrappy piece of old ply that I had lying about, very much a test run this time.
@@ericohara2582 Hi. I have always routed the slots with just one pass. Cornrs first then the straights. MDF is very easy to work with, We did make one club track with "chip-board" very good track, but required a few router bits as the glue used in the wood quickly dulled the router bit. Have never made a track using ply-wood. Our first slub track was 55 foot 3 lanes with all the slots cut by hand using a pad-saw. After you lay the copper tape build up the track surface with paint, untill the surface of the paint is flush or slightly above the level of the copper tape. This will help prevent the the wheels of the sliding cars peeling up the tape. Now looking forward to seeing your track and cars.
@@daveatwinterslane thank you so much Dave, what an effort for the big track! That is a good tip re the depth of paint for copper tape, all so helpful. I will switch to emails now. BW

I love the thought of the story behind each of the restored slotstox cars, what history and craftsmanship, R and D ideas trialed too perhaps? Very precious, thank you for sharing.
Really really good and filming and sounds make it!
More questions I'm afraid, Dave did you route the curves free hand?... very clever build, thank you.
Hi. I used a router with a arm that I had made up out of a strip of metal. With various holes drilled through the metal strip, and the adjustment available on the router, metal strip connection, by putting a screw through the metal strip, the router can be used like a compass to cut slots of any radius. I always make tracks by routing all the curves first, then connecting up the curves with straight slots using a straight edge is easy.
@@daveatwinterslane I see, thank you for that.
Dave, I have to really thank you so much. All of the slotstox info here on YT and in forums has been incredibly inspirational and soo helpful....thank you
No worries, it would be great if there was a slot stox club down here in the Westcountry. We have full size tracks,Smeatharpe etc. and a very successful R/C club at Dunkeswell. I am in contact with a few folk who have shown an interest in slot stox, but they are fairly spread out around the Westcountry. As I no longer drive I am limited in what I can do. I have just obtained one of the original VIP Stock Cars. Hope to post a video featuring in in the near future. Are you on the "Slot Forum" as I have posted articles on Slot Stox there.
@@daveatwinterslane Hello Dave, yes have picked up many of your posts on the forum too, also downloaded lots of the info... all so helpful. I am just building a US midget / sprint car scratchbuild and in searching for info, I remembered stockcar racing at Swindon Stadium when I was little... that sent me off down the discovery route of slotstox... mostly thanks to you. Now I may postpone the Midget slot car build and switch to a Parma based slotstox as in your videos. I like the retro stuff most of all.
@@ericohara2582 In the past I used to attend race meetings at St Austell, Newton Abbott, Smeatharpe and Mendip Raceways for BriSCA F2, Hot Rods and Bamger racing. For some reason never got to go to the Ringwood track. I managed to pick up a couple of slot Winged Migets off of Ebay a while ago. One needs a motor, and the rear tyres need replacing on both. They are fairly big even for a 1/24 scale models. Many yrats ago Chas Keeling at SCD used to supply a "Sprints Plus" complete kit for a midget - sprint car.
@@daveatwinterslane Sorry David I had missed your reply before. Yes the American Midget cars are really nice, I've been promising to build one for myself. I like to stay with 1/32 but the availability of Midgets in the UK let alone in 1/32 nd is very rare. I made carved a wooden buck to beat copper over it and that is working but very time consuming and heavy. I then found the Austin 7 racer body from Beta Classic. It is so similar to a midget and with a little bit of filler will look quite convincing. I am now building a chassis for that And then discovered your Stockcars and this brilliant little track....now I have too many projects! BTW, you mentioned Smeatharpe, the sprint motorbike in my avatar photo was taken at Smeatharpe (or possibly Weston Zoyland) in about 1989!
@@ericohara2582 A couple of the "Slot Stox" bodies available from SCD have the look of a miget / sprint car about them, might be worth a look. A chap that I got to know racing at the Street slot car club by the name of Pete Francois races a sprint motorcycle at Western Zoyland and other locations. Like your video on the Shanghai Hercules cycle, I used to do a lot of cycling, used a Falcon Proffesional for racing and time trials, then Dawes Galaxy's for touring and Audax events. Found that with my size and riding style the frames on the Dawes would snap after about 18 months, so Robin Thorn at St John Steet Cycles built me a frame using tubeing ment for a tandam, twenty plus years later am still riding it.
Incredible!!
Thank you Dave, getting quite fascinated by these. Do you still race at Torquay? I am along the coast in the Swanage area.
I had friends growing up that lived in Corfe Castle, so had many a happy holiday on the Isle of Purbeck. The Torquay Slot Stox club folded up about 25 years ago. So have not raced Slot Stox since then. I do run the East Devon Slot Racing Club, that is based at Awliscombe, Just outsde of Honiton on rhe road to Cullompton. We race Scalextric, Slot.It NSR type cars on a 75 foot 5 lane track. There is a club in Aldershot, AKSSC that race their own style of slot stox and "Bangers" on their oval,
@@daveatwinterslane Thank you Dave for your pointers. I think I am going to start with some slotstox scratch builds based on your Parma car and get a track together in the hope that I can get the grandchildren interested in playing with Gramps!! However, I would like to come along to one of your nr Cullompton meetings one day (like your Purbeck times, I had an Aunty in Cullompton so nice memories there too). Thanks for the comment. I would like to make the track just a little biggerm if I get the time, and maybe 4 lanes.
Yup, AI is still on drugs.
Im building a two lane for my two sons getting ideas what to add ramp wise thanks
Good luck with your track building. Will be interested in seeing the finished results. I make my ramps and obstacles so that they can be driven over in ether direction, and interchangeble, With that and having the track wired so that with a flick of a switch the direction that the track is driven can be reversed, There is lots of variety in the layouts. I try to make my obstacles so that most trucks can drive over them most of the time. I have used dowls to locate the obstacles, but the isea of using magnets in the inbeded in the track and obstacles might be an odea worth looking into. I find it best to keep the obstacles well away from the corners, so the trucks can hit them square on. Have you checked out the "Monster Slot Trucks, Tanks and Pullers" Facebook page ? Well done!
I prefer slow speeds with my Hudy also, specifically 2.5-3 volts, even as low as 2 volts for tyres that pick-up readily. I know it takes longer but results are great. I also keep amp draw below 2 amps. . I notice you also do what I do which is line up the wheel grubscrew with the one on the pulley wheel which makes it easier to find on short hub wheels 😄
I must try to remember to put my meter on the Hudy and see what volts and amps I am using. I am inclined to do it by ear most of the time.
@@daveatwinterslane I use an old LRP Pulsar battery charger from my RC car days, it has 1-12v adjustable output with amp readings.
I am late to the party to congratulate you on an excellent design and build. I love it! This reminds me of a train set that my dad built for me when I was six years old. It even had a tunnel. 😀
Nice!!
What wood do you use for base?
The slots are routed into a 2x4 foot sheet of MDF. The frame and support battens are timber from the local D.I.Y. store. The cover on the underside is a 2x4 sheet of "hardboard".

What size motor gear are used and how many volts is used on the track? Thanks this is very cool. I race and wish i could do this!
Sorry I have no details of the motor or volts used, this is just a video clip that I came across on the internet. There are some details of Slot Drag Racing here. www.motortrend.com/features/hot-rod-anything-140-mph-slot-car-drag-racing/ I think that the current speeds are now around 150mph.

Epic video, i have this on VCR. Alot early than 2003 though. Would suggest 1994 ish ?
Thank you Dave for sharing your build and video Dave of the F2 SlotStox kit 👍. As I mentioned on SlotForum, the Slot-it motor mount - although a new / sealed pack, it was missing the bearings. This is unfortunate and frustrating. The front axle spacers had been fitted the wrong way around. The flange fits up against the hub rather than the chassis. That's probably why you had no movement in the front axle. As for the interior, this is an issue that came to light after the first batch had been produced despite lots of testing of the prototype. We have rectified this issue and the next print run will be amended. Your experience in building kits certainly helped to overcome these issues in a positive way. Going forward, we will produce and provide an instructions sheet with this kit. Thanks again for sharing and we are glad that you like the kit. Cheers Sean.
Looking good, Dave!
