    in my view, it looks great with the slicker design and the razor cut molles. Expandable side pockets and admin pouches are so cool and well thought out. the shoulder straps look comfy enough. but not sure about the thick nylon loops on it. it just adds more weight, not very practical. it seems like they just added em for cool looks I dont know..

    question. can i remove the belt and put the padded one of the ghost ?

    • @ninaramage6098
      @ninaramage6098 Před 8 lety

      no, unfortunately you can not; the belt system on the ghost is different from the dragon egg. the dragon egg has two straps that attach to each side rather than the belt that weaves threw the back of the ghost pack.

      @menemme Před 8 lety

      Nina Ramage sad news. Anyways Is this pack suitable for continuative, sustained long distance hiking in terms of pure confort, as compared to the "Ghost" pack?

    • @ninaramage6098
      @ninaramage6098 Před 8 lety

      i haven't had the chance to take this on a long distance hike, however i am certain it will do fine comfort wise. there are better options for long distance hiking packs but this would do great if you were going to use this as a multi use pack (edc bag/hiking pack). if you already have the ghost then you should use that as your long distance pack. i have both and for me the ghost is more comfortable. if you strip the belt from the ghost and remove the detachable front pack then it is almost the same as the dragon egg. you can even rig a buckle and strap system to mimic the dragon egg waste belt. i think the straps are a little thicker on the dragon egg, for me the thinner straps on the ghost are more comfortable. that being said if you aren't strapped for cash pick the dragon egg up. i like the paracord drag handle and the daisy chain webbing on it.

    • @menemme
      @menemme Před 8 lety

      First, let me thank you for the elaborate answer. I do appreciate you taking your time to give me an exhaustive response. I intend to walk the way to santiago in spain, 500+ miles, in abt 30-35 days, so probably 6 to 8 hours a day, 15 miles a day with 20/22 pounds of weight. I know you would probably tell me that a conventional/civilian pack is more suitable, but i do prefer the modularity of a military molle system bag. If you honestly believe the ghost is a more confortable pack, than that's it for me. See, i thought he beefier straps of the egg and reduced size made it more confy than the ghost. But i do believe you.

    • @ninaramage6098
      @ninaramage6098 Před 8 lety

      that sounds like fun! may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face. well to be honest it all depends on you. i am quite small so the thin straps work better for me. i know the thick belt on the ghost may be too cumbersome or may become too hot for some people, for me it works well. you may need the larger size of the ghost though for a 22lbs pack, however what i do sometimes is put the removable admin pouch from the ghost onto the dragon egg. the packs are both very versatile. i think for a long trip you should experiment first what is more comfortable for you. that way you don't find out that it wont work during your long trip. the pack is one of the most important pieces of gear so you may want to invest on both if you can not decide. i finally broke down and got both and i mix and match them with the straps and the pouches. the quality is great so i didn't feel too bad with the expense. anyways i hope my opinion helps you, and i wish you the best on your journey! also i apologize for the late reply.

    Great review!! I've been considering the Dust and the Dragon Egg, and have watched your videos numerous times to help me make a decision. I'm leaning towards the Dragon Egg, but really like the bigger water bottle pockets and side zip pouch under the front molle that the Dust has. Out of the two packs, which one do you prefer? Thanks!!

    So i recently bought this Monstrum backpack for $50 and i can say it was a made in china piece of crap. Sending it back today and was looking for a new bag when i found this. I made sure to do more research than I did with the Monstrum and your review has made me 100% on this backpack. Thank you :)

    • @nhgearreviews8762
      @nhgearreviews8762 Před 8 lety

      +manuariiv Sorry, just saw this. It will definitely work for hiking, since it's lighter weight than packs made with 1000D Cordura, but there are better packs out there for that specific purpose. Still, if you're looking for a single bag to handle multiple roles, it's hard to go wrong with this one.

    • @leethompson5635
      @leethompson5635 Před 8 lety

      +NH Gear Reviews There is probably a bit more than 25L. I have another 25L backpack and I swear the Dragon Egg fits much more in. I would say there's around 30L in total given the design of the admin section and how it is bigger at the bottom than it is at the top. Great review by the way!

  • @shramj
    @shramj Před 9 lety

    Awesome job on your first review, will the pack stand up on it's own? That is one feature I would like in a backpack, I don't want it rolling over when full.

    • @nhgearreviews8762
      @nhgearreviews8762 Před 9 lety

      ***** Thanks! It can stand up on its own if it's packed correctly, but it does tend to roll forward. One thing I found that helped was to move the rolled up extra strapping on the bottom. The pack comes with the excess rolled up and secured nearest the wearer's back, so I just unrolled enough to move it toward the front. The bundle of extra strap acts helps prop the up the front so it doesn't tend to roll as badly.

      +NH Gear Reviews So far I have been liking this Dragon Egg pack, had mine for about 2 months now. I think the size is perfect for EDC use and they did a great job with all the strapping. I think the paracord carry handle is the best handle I have seen on a pack.

    Great review!! I'm looking into several bags right now and this is by far one of the best I've seen. The only downside I have is the fact that the main compartment doesn't unzip completely to allow full access to it. Gonna check out your ghost review next, thanks!!

    Great review. I've had my Dust in Kryptek Highlander for a month or so now and I love it. Was looking at the Ghost but felt that the front pouch is a little hokey. How do you like the Dragon Egg compared to the Dust? Are the straps overly padded? I had a 5.11 Rush 12 that I felt the straps were over padded on and the Dragon Egg looks like about the same padding but maybe a little softer.

    • @nhgearreviews8762
      @nhgearreviews8762 Před 9 lety

      fubar1217 Thanks for your comment. The Ghost is much better looking in person, but I agree, the front pouch isn't the aesthetic high point of that pack. It is incredibly functional. The Dragon Egg is my M-F carry bag, mostly because I need to carry lots of crap for work, including a 15" laptop. The Dragon Egg's rear pocket has a nice padded sleeve for a laptop or bladder which is a great feature. As I mentioned in this review, I do wish the Dust included the microfiber-lined pocket behind the velcro panel as found on the Dragon Egg, but the Dust makes up for it with its deeper side pockets. My 1L Nalgene has fallen out of the Dragon Egg's side pockets, but I now just clip it to the daisy chain running along the edges of the outer pocket. The straps on the Dragon Egg are very similar in thickness and padding to those on the Rush 12, but the inside is lined with the same mesh as what covers the back spacer pads. I find them to be very comfortable. Hope this helps.
