My mother, in her 20s, took down a black bear with one shot from a .270 hunting rifle. My step-dad was surprised by a big old bear coming up out of the ruins of a cellar hole, deep in the woods, and took him down with a .30-30. With a sword - if you could stab into the right spot - well swords are bigger than bullets. The game makes this so much harder. Then again, you can starve to death in hours, a day, in DayZ... it can take weeks to starve to death in real life... pros say 5-6 days without water... my wife, went into a coma-like state while in Hospice, took her 19 days to finally die (no food or water during that time - she fought for every second of life to the bitter end).
