I’m a natural girl at heart. My profile pic is my natural hair. But I do feel like it’s on to wear straight or curly weaves. I wear a wig maybe once a year if that … and it will be curly. Sometimes I want to play in a texture that my hair can’t do. I think the problem for me personally is when you wear it more than your natural hair. Or you feel like you have to put on a wig for a special event or to go out.

I absolutely agree with her as a Black man. She told the absolute truth. Today i saw a real if an African wedding with a little Black girl wearing a straight wig. She looked no older that 4-5 years old. That is absolutely ridiculous. Self love starts young and they are already setting her up to fail, especially if her natural beauty is not being reinforced and home.

I’m literally the last person who should be commenting about Black women’s hair (white, NB, super-short hair) but I think your texture is gorgeous and healthy-looking. To me, people’s natural hair texture and color seems to be what looks the nicest next to their faces. I’m all for playing with colors and textures in the name of creative expression-I love bright neons and punk-rock looks, myself-but I’m also all for pluralistic beauty ideals, and against anything we do out of fear or shame. It's definitely an intentional mind shift that is needed for black women to learn to love their hair. The greatest gift I've given myself was doing the necessary healing that led to self-love and acceptance.
