    As an Ethiopian born and raised here in the Netherlands, I apologize profusely that the Ethiopian restaurant in the diaspora does not serve authentic Ethiopian food. The quantity of food being served is considerably less than what was originally served in terms of quality and testing as well. I observe that many of these small restaurants are in diaspora and serve fake food (mixed with other none original). Simply put, they are defrauding their customers. Regular flour is used to make injera instead of the traditional teff. The lowest-quality meat and canned salads are being served, and the food is not even enough for one individual. However, the entire dish's price would be considerably overpriced. I believe before visiting these eateries, you should conduct as much research as possible. My counsel to those who are not Ethiopian Take your time to discover the best Ethiopian eateries as rated by fellow Ethiopians. Though it would only be one out of ten, you do have some good ones. It would be quite challenging for you to understand as someone who is not Ethiopian. You'll never be able to determine the true authenticity of Ethiopian food in this way. This is theft from the owners of these restaurants, and this is why you will find most of them totally empty. This should be your sign of guidance.

    The food in Greece is not as culturally varied as in for example the US and Australia because Greece dont have that type of history. Having said that i have to say that there are countless Asian and Indian places to eat. And how about the low prices for everything in comparison to other places in Europe? It seems that you went the wrong time of year in August. Greece is a eu state and have the euro and therefore it is impossible to have asian prices. The public transport is slower at the time you visited so i will repeat myself, inform yourself and then talk about things like livability. Athens citizens does not have a disdain for foreigners. Maybe you were being a bit rude filming them or something? This hitjob on Athens is very sad to see especially since it comes from pure ignorance.

    • @karinandhenward
      @karinandhenward Před 11 měsíci

      We were there in July. There are Asian places but not many and not nearly authentic probably similar to what you might get in the US. It's definitely an observation we made anyway. We have travelled a lot and people were definitely the rudest here than what we've experienced anywhere else in the world.

      @@karinandhenward Stop making videos if you cant even take criticism. You made a video and said many false things and some i pointed out. You clearly are not meant to travel and experience different places. I just educated you about Asian food in Athens. It is more than enough for sure. You have been to Athens one time and suddenly think you know about the food scene all over the city. And it is not authentic? Who are you to judge authenticity?

  • @Alexander-bj6vj
    @Alexander-bj6vj Před 11 měsíci

    This is a really bad take on Athens and Greece. The service is excellent and the vibes of Athens some of the best in the world. Your experiences doesn't match other travelers. Maybe educate yourself and talk to the locals to understand things better. Did you go to the coast? To the mountains and forests? Did you enjoy the excellent nightlife? The arts scene? Did you visit many museums? You go to USA and Australia and you wont find amazing service in the biggest cities everywhere. You talk about vibes and the locals without even knowing where you are and why they are rude. Athens is a massive metropol and so be more careful when you judge your experiences otherwise you will be considered ignorant. Fortunately Greece is one of the most visited countries in the world and wont miss you. Forgive me for being so harsh but don't make videos and expect to not get judged.

    • @karinandhenward
      @karinandhenward Před 11 měsíci

      You might not like our take on Athens but that was our experience. We have travelled many places in the world, sometimes only staying in touristy places sometimes only in local places. It's impossible to meet every person or go to every cafe but the ones we went to were mostly rude. We are not going to lie about our experience there.

    • @Alexander-bj6vj

      @@karinandhenward Stop defending an embarrassing video. It is ok to say that some people were rude but you should educate yourself about the reasons. The whole world knows about the famous greek hospitality and you talk about it like it is terrible. And what you call rude is probably just locals wanting to be treated like normal people and not as your slaves.

    Im not sure, but you didnt seem to visit any suberb of Athens. I mean, judging by your videos which are all from around the center, you cant really tell what life is in a city of 5mil while you stroll 2-3 Km around the center and the touristy areas. Greeks have nothing against the tourists. *What you saw on this wall* is something written by some groups of *anarchists,* and probably these behaviors you described (with the filming) fall in the same category, many of whom are not even Greeks and who live in the center and in buildings they actually occupied by force (breaking an entrance) and refuse since to return to the rightful owners. This problem grew even bigger as between 2015 and 2019 there was a leftist government in Greece which showed *tolerance* towards anarchists, and it became even bigger when this tolerance allowed anarchists from all around Europe to enjoy the Athenian blue sky for free. So, *to these people* the tourist is their "enemy" for these buildings are probably gonna become airbnbs or whatever. The last years the Police is trying to empty these buildings and return them to the owners. Regards

      You re probably right, we did venture to other suburbs but didn't film it. We were her for a month and definitely did not stay only in this area. What we like to do is often to take a train places outside the city and sit in a cafe to see what "local life" is like. Of course we won't get the full experience though. Weirdly, I know a few Greeks who left Greece and they are wonderful - funnily enough they recon Athens is not the friendliest city either in Greece.

    • @papertoyss
      @papertoyss Před rokem

      @@karinandhenward It's not the City to blame, nor the Athenians. If you knew Athens as I know it, as we all know it, you would realize that in the everyday life 99% of those who are in Athens, they just work there or went shopping or to do some work or whatever. You probably didnt realised this, but Athens center is practically not a tourist area *but a business area;* most companies have their offices inside or around the center, there're thousands of companies that dont deal with tourism (at least there were many until recently for toursim slowly consumes all the activities practiced in the center - that's my impression). All these cover an area known as the "triangle of commerce", outside this area the center hosts all the Chambers, the Parliament is there and even all the embassies are in the Athens center. This is a *very busy area* even without tourists and with tourism rapidly increasing by the month *(which is good and everyone wants it).* Considering the above, though, and keeping the analogies, ask yourself: who's actually friendly in Manhatan or in the City (in London)? What I mean is this: there's a small conflict in Athens and the Athenians try to keep the balancies between the +12 years of financial crisis, the huge numbers of toursits which the Athenians wanna/need/have/must/should/want/WANT to offer the best hospitality possible, there's the everyday life, there's there're the anarchists who fight everyone including the toursits in the most insidious way, etc, etc, *and all these meet in Athens center* which is literally a very small area. Regards

    Some additional informations for you: - To make moussaka you need to fry both the potatoes and the eggplant before you use them. - Some (not many) use in their Greek salad yogurt instead of feta cheese. I tried it and loved it. - This type of halva is made with basically semolina, olive oil and cinnamon and some sesame. It's a very light and very quick dessert most Greeks love. But, you can also add whatever you think goes with these. We usually add walnuts (inside and/or on top), and you can also add dried figs or any kind of dried fruit of your choise (Keyword: dried). After adding all these though *you practically have a supefood.* The version you had was the simplest one. - There're many traditional recipies in Greece, many kinds of seefood too, you would be amazed. If you like seafood, this country can offer you a huge variety. You just need to ask around, dig a little deeper. Regards

      We would like to come back one day again and definitely deep dive. Greeks really know how to make delicious food. The nuts over there are so nice, it's almost impossible to find nuts like that here in NZ - it's almost always stale unless you buy a huge bag direct from the farm. Interesting about the yoghurt instead of feta cheese. Thanks for sharing your food knowledge with us!

      @@karinandhenward I can only tell you this and please dont get me wrong: if we speak of traditional cuisine, think of the Italian, now think of the French traditional cuisine; now put these together and they cannot match the diversity of the Greek traditional cuisine. We're talking a huge number of recipies. Also, the vegetables in Greece are in both quality and taste multiple levels above the ones produced in the previously mentioned countries. If we are talking about seafood, 1 out of two seafood being sold in Italy it is Greek. And if we talk of olive oil, about 70% of the top quality Italian Olive Oil is actually either Greek or from Spain. This beame a huge thing within the EU which forced the Italian companies to actually determine where the oil they until recently sold as "Italian" comes from (and they still dont do it - not all of them at least). Experts on this field suggest that the Greek olive oil (which is by 90% extra virgin - Greece is the biggest producer of extra virging olive oil globally - note: Greece is not the biggest producer of olive oil generally, but of the highest quality) is the next big thing, not because of the quantity, but bcoz of the quality. Regards
