Video relating to the South African Defence Force. The South African Border War, commonly referred to as the Angolan Bush War in South Africa, was a conflict that took place from 1966 to 1989 largely in South-West Africa (now Namibia) and Angola between South Africa and its allied forces (mainly UNITA) on the one side and the Angolan government, South-West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO), ...
This may sound crazy but when I lived in Marine Drive in Umhlanga Rocks in the 90's I actually saw 3 UFO's that flew over the flats on the beachfront....I only saw them for about 10 seconds, but a moment that I'll never forget. Dead silent, a very dull pewter grey and not a plane, helicopter or drone. Anyways, I miss you Umhlanga and Durban!
I grew up in Durban in the 90's and lived in Umhlanga Rocks and an X Northwood boy...it was absolute paradise. Sadly, I've moved to the UK as Durban and South Africa has gone to the swamps. At 42 years old, I would gladly move back to Durban and South Africa if it weren't destroyed, sad times right now.
Oh yay I recognize the Pavilion Mall
The camera makes it look so shit.
This is the inevitable result when you turn over a once magnificent civilization to the ferals ✅✅ Raw sewage is dumping onto the beach
This is gold, thank you for uploading it!
This city has changed a LOT since this time, and not for the better
When they still used indicators...
Going past the Riviera hotel @1:25, heck I miss those old days of Finch and Henson playing there. In NZ for over 20 years, will "never" go back.
This is the GORGEOUS Durban we all remember, this city along with the country is now experiencing a slight modification ....
I've watched three films of Durban today and yesterday ; 70's , 80's and now this one. Each one featured a Morris Minor at some point, I can understand the 70's, but 80's , 90's ? Were they very popular over there?
Never got to see Durban like this , foreign world honestly yet somewhat familiar, sad to see the overall decay and dismay which is the current city of Durban , i wish i could go back in time
Such a cool city to grow up in the 80’s and 90’s…safe, clean, plenty of pubs, clubs and jols. So sad to see it today…dirty, drug and crime riddled and broken. Heartbreaking…
Durban once a paradise now a den of thieves, all thanx to crooked politicians
Most of the cars are big cars.
tnx for sharing this is history
WOW
Monks inn and many more
Was that Radio 2000??😊
Yes. Good old days and no taxis.
It was a beautiful city ... my hometown ... but now its a mess
Thanks for this. I grew up in Durban in the 80’s and 90’s. Brought back some great memories.
Back when Africans couldn't loot
'97 was the time Durban just began to change...for the worse. And it just got worse and worse.
As offended as we may feel about it as the Blacks....Its a Fact this Apartheid Legacy is the best thing...we were lucky to be colonised by a Britain ...they stole 👀while they developed 🙌
I was born November that year...crazy
Wow I need to stop being nosy. I found the de Beer residents on Maps so fast LOL
Its so sad to see durban what it is today... Thank you ANC
I was 16 then. South Africa wasn't run down like it is now.
KwaZulu Natal was run by the IFP and not the ANC in 1997 that maybe be why the city was still in good condition.
Or maybe it’s cause it had only been 3 years since apartheid ended at this point so the infrastructure hadn’t collapsed as much yet
At this point, when apartheid ended, there was no combi taxis around. Marxist Maharaj was the architect for this mess of millions of Combi taxis around the country. These taxis hog up every available space to park in and around the cities. A damn curse.
@@ramennaidoo162 Exactly right. It was those crooked fools running Maritzburg motor licensing bureau who gave them liberties after the ANC set light to all the municipal buses in that city. They should be in jail with that lot instead of retired in New Zealand on hefty packages. Who said crime doesn't pay?😉
Good to see this city again. Pity though that parts were destroyed by the recent floods.
This place has become a failed society now. It's such a shame compared to this video. Thanks for posting
It's now like planet of the apes
Are you a racist? It was their home from the beginning, the afrikaans are only tenants. so pls stop the insult
Durban looks better now than 90s.
Keep telling yourself that.
Aw kahle ukugula....awlazi ke itheku langempela
DEFINE "BETTER"
Give it to the pigs and you get a pigsty.
I grew up in Durban...thanks so much for this. Missing it so much. The 90's were so great...cool music!
Agreed. I grew up on Marina Parade, and this was such a nostalgic vibe.
Eyi this brings tears on my eyes how things were good Olds indeed thanks for tro back
the year I was made😂👍
No Taxis!!!!! Pity someone can't do basically the same trip now to show us the difference.
No taxis!!!! Amazing!
Wow awakens ones memories of the good old days, yet its so sad to see this CITY being ruined, there is no hope for any positive outcome.
What's interesting to me, besides how clean it was, is that these buildings were built so long ago. Perhaps a testament to our unimpressive economic growth.
Da war es noch viel schöner !
Ow the place is destroyed. Turning it over to people who didn’t have the sense of pride and responsibility. Mandela was at least prescient enough to exhibit these attributes, but he turned it over to incompetent fools who turned a once-promising economy into their own personal bank accounts. And became nothing but xenophobic warlords, which was everything the black struggle fought against. Disgraceful
Its all gone now......
Used to live on the beachfront when my husband (Doctor) worked at King Edward Hospital. Rosa Larsen
@Kgothatso Nthite .Hi I hope you got my reply....don't see it so maybe pressed the wrong button. I use my husband's FB etc. as it is easier that way. No I'm not gay but have been married to Peter 57 years this coming July. I have been a High School teacher and taught at various schools both at Damelin College and Pretora Girls' High. We also lived in Pietermaritzburg and now in Perth WA. It is nice to know that you were born at KE hospital. My husband worked there as a Pathologist in the Lab. He also worked at the Institute of Medical Research in JHB in the Histopathology Dept. He qualified at Tukkies and got his Speciality FFPath in Cape Town. I went to Wits. BTW I do not have any issues with Gay people. They are usually very creative and gifted. I hope you are keeping well. Still love South Africa. Was listening the other day to Johnny Clegg's "Great Heart"....My favorite!
@Kgothatso Nthite Hi Kgothatso....nice of you to reply. A great suggestion but at our age, both 84 years and not too well either....as I said Peter, my husband is in hospital....problems with his Diabetes,....and I have a bad knee....it is clearly impossible for us to return to SA.....We left, not for political reasons but because our daughter wanted us to be here near her so she could look after us which, in fact, is currently happening, so we are very grateful......My brother lives on the beachfront in Durban and loves it. So enjoy your beautiful country which has lots of very happy memories for us. Both our parents also died in SA. Take care and our very best wishes. Rosa
@Kgothatso Nthite A great reply Kgothatso. Kidney stones not good and very painful. Better see about them ASAP Your mom sounds a great lady. Please tell her not to be sad. I am sure she is a very talented lady and will soon find something else to do which will give her pleasure. I have spent time creating pictures with beads.....e.g. quite a good resemblance of our doggie Zac and of a Zulu scene....pity I can't scan to show you but quite realistic and the beads are colorful so your Mom will discover other hidden talents as well. So love to you and Mom from a rather chilly Perth today. Rosa.....Unfortunately, my husband Peter is still in hospital....As a medical doctor he has looked after himself well with his Diabetes....no complications but has been fortunate to be given a very expensive diabetic pump free of charge and they are trying to show him how it works so he doesn't have to prick his finger and take his injections any more....the pump does the work and is a great development in medical technology
@Peter Larsen. It is so lovely to have some insight into you and your husbands life ❤ thank you for sharing your memories. All the best to you both.
Love this!!!

Now durban looks worst than stone ages
