Challenger 4WD
Australia
Registrace 8. 04. 2018
Hi my name is Neil and I’m based in Sydney NSW Australia. I’m planning to visit as much of Australia as I can in my 4WD which is a 2013 Mitsubishi Challenger. If I’m camping, I’ll be towing the Stockman Pod off-road trailer. This channel is focused on 4WD touring and camping, adventure travel, product reviews and dog friendly activities. If I’m visiting a State Forest I’ll take Anton our French bulldog because dog’s are permitted in State Forests. For longer trips he’ll be staying home, especially if the trip includes National Parks.
The gear I’m using at present is:
Sony A7IV & Sony A6500
GoPro Hero 10
GoPro Hero 3+
DJI Mavic Air
Manfrotto Tripod
Joby Mini
Editing is on a dual screen Desktop with Premiere Pro 2023

Sunny Corner Silver Mine | State Forest 4WD Tracks | Challenger 4WD |
#offroad #overland #camping A day in Sunny Corner State Forest visiting the original silver mine and exploring 4x4 tracks in the area. It's a toxic site with serious environmental damage so we didn't stay long. We left to explore the off road tracks in that part of the forest.

Originally I was using the Formula Shock Absorbers but I needed a slightly firmer ride for towing my camper trailer so I upgraded to the Bilstein Shocks. In my opinion they are the best option for any lift kit or suspension...

What has "Gas Prices" got to do with Petrol or Diesel? 🙄
@@johncoops6897 Gas is petrol in America. But yeah the audio doesn’t match the video…😀
@@Challenger4WD - Well, Goulburn and Sydney are in Australia, not America. Gas in AU is LPG. Since your video and title only mentions Diesel, the gasoline prices are completely irrelevant anyway. Furthermore, the AU fuel prices aren't affected by Putin or Ukraine 😃
2:24.. she loves bondage kinda shit.. not going near her.. I have had a bad experience..
awesome
Thank you 🙏 😀👍🏻
Interesting, thanks. Would a 4wd SUV handle it? How do you manage on-coming vehicles?
@@doncoyote2 thanks, yes it’s a dirt road. Only the Root Hog crossing is rocky but you don’t need to cross there. Some of the campsites have sandy areas near the river which might require 4WD. If it’s busy and you meet someone, one of you may have to back up but that’s it. There’s places to pass but some sections of the track are narrow. You won’t have any problems. 😀👍🏻
@@Challenger4WD Thanks
Are there public toilets available?
There might be but I haven’t noticed them and I’ve been there about half a dozen times. Doesn’t really make it clear on their website either. I know big holiday weekends they do have portaloos. 😀👍🏻👍🏻
@@Challenger4WD $50 to drive on sand and 💩 in a portaloo? Pass! 😂
@@donr62 Stockton is a bit of a hike but a much better option! 😀🤙🏼
Nice little video Neil. I really need to get the 4wd system working again on our Challenger
Yeah it’d be good but at least you have the new bike to explore with? 👍🏻😀
@@Challenger4WD yes I do and I'm loving it. My channel and views have taken off since getting the bike
That looks awesome, where's this place?
@@warrengregory8452 I found it on the way back from Nattai National Park. It’s off Seabrook Rd Hilltop NSW. 👍🏻😀
Weather looks miserable is it in Vic? 😆
@@1SweetPete No Sydney! Southern Highlands actually. The winter here has been cold this year and plenty of rain too. Miserable sums it up! 😀🤙🏼
Cool vid! Wondering where you got the side pipe exhaust from?
@@felixcolvin4423 thx Felix, I bought the Challenger at auction in Canberra and it was already modified. The previous owner had a horse float and he didn’t want all those fumes getting to the horses so he got it custom fitted. I also tow my camper trailer so it’s been useful to me too. 😀👍🏻
I think this is my favourite video of yours! You forgot to mention what the significance of the cross on the track was? That’s bloody creepy that some fool has gone to the effort to put that on the track. It makes me think that Milat worshippers frequent the area. I’ll bet some areas have an awful atmosphere to them in there. We went down the Oberon Colong Stock Route a few years ago and planned to camp at Mt Werong, but both my Wife and I had a terrible feeling about the place. It’s odd that we both felt it. The only other place I’ve felt that way was at the Muntapa Railway Tunnel in QLD. I’ve been down to Belanglo, but not right out in the forest, because we were on holidays in my Wife’s hatchback. I’ll have to see if I can convince her to take a night run down there in the Triton 😂
Thanks for that comment. 👍🏻 Re: The Cross which was weird to see, the first 2 bodies were found by a couple of runners off Longacre FT. Then later 2 more fairly close by so it’s a big part of the backpacker story. Who would put a cross like that? Yeah it could be a sick fan I guess. There’s evidence of 2 people’s involvement in some of the murders and only Milat went to jail so there could be an accomplice still out there? Belanglo is still closed apart from the campsite so check on the State Forests website about closures before you go eh? 👍🏻😀
@@Challenger4WDI reckon he had an accomplice/s. There was talk that he was incestuous with his sister, so it makes sense that he would’ve used her to put female backpackers at ease and willing to get in the car with him. Bloody unsettling knowing that his Nephew carried on his disgusting legacy in the same area years later. Did you let your tyres down? I know that you would every other time, but I’m wondering if you did it here? That 10 minutes outside pumping the tyres up in the dark would be too much for me in that area haha! Definitely agree with you on the Please Be Careful sign. We’ve been to a hell of a lot of State Forests, Conservation Areas, and National Parks over the years, and never have I seen a sign like that anywhere else. Makes for a good photo, though. I showed my Wife your video and she said “no chance are we going at night” 😂
She’s the sensible one eh? 😀 We did let the tyres down but the main road out is dirt so we kept going and pumped them up at the rest stop on the Hume Hwy which is well lit! There were 2 caravans camping overnight btw. We saw them as we came into the Forest. They maybe didn’t know that Milat has passed earlier that morning! My wife said she’d never camp there, probably a good decision…😀👍🏻
@@Challenger4WDsmart move on waiting until the Hume to get out the air compressor mate! Keep the videos coming.
You know what I made more sense for wolf creek instead of filming it out in the outback rides in a go to belanglo state Forest hear or not
True yeah Belanglo would be ideal but Wolf Creek was also based on Bradley Murdoch and he abducted the couple in the outback so they’ve gone with that location. 🤙🏼😀
What are the chances they will make on movie based on Ivan malit and his life story
Do you believe the forest is haunted do you believe it's cursed and do you believe the ghosts of the backpackers Ivan killed are haunting the forest did you ever have any experiences with that with their ghosts did you hear anything or see anything unusual out in the forest at night
Just picture this camping in the forest at night and you can hear the ghostly screams of the backpackers being chased by Ivan Milat and just picture this you're in your tent and you hear a noise and it's Ivan pointing a gun at you from the tents door you close the tent and he's ghost is gone
@@scottwalker5379 maybe they will. There’s been documentary type shows but not a proper movie like Wolf Creek.
Thanks for sharing Phil. You've sat on this footage for a while mate. On Ivan Milat, he also spent some time in Maitland Gaol before it closed down. I did a tour there and they showed us his cell.
I heard he was there for a while. That’s a real old school prison isn’t it? 😀🤙🏼
@@Challenger4WD Yes it was. Smack bang in the middle of suburbia
Interesting video, thanks for sharing. One question out of curiosity, why do you have one spotty pointed up to the trees?
Well spotted! 😀 It was all a bit of an experiment. We didn’t know if we’d be able to film at night but the Sony Camera did a great job. The autofocus was accurate even through the windscreen at night. One of the lights has a spread beam and the other was the spot and we thought it’d show more of the bush if it was pointed up slightly. 😀🤙🏼
Too easy mate, ta
Is Belangalo open again? I thought it's been closed for years. I see your video is 2019.
Yeah I had a copyright issue and had to re edit the video with different music. It’s closed and I’m looking forward to visiting when they finally open it! 😀🤙🏼
@@Challenger4WD they will probably never re open it….
I hope that’s not the case! 😀👍🏻
looks very bouncy on the dirt?
Thx for the comment, it does bounce a bit but not too bad. The shocks are Bilsteins which are very good. But, when I update the vehicle I’d go with adjustable shocks for different terrain. 😀👍🏻
just came across your channel and it is a gem! already subscribed and looking forward to seeing your next adventure!
Thank you! ❤️🤙🏼
I kinda wish manufacturers still used cylindrical air filters in diesel 4wd’s instead of the panel filters that are commonplace these days. It just still looks weird to me every time I pop the bonnet.
The older Landcruisers were built to survive the harshest conditions! I was taken aback at the size of the housing. The filter itself probably costs a bit. 😀👍🏻
They wasted 20,000 dollars
😀
Thanks for sharing once again Neil. That old footage was pretty cool to see
Thx mate! Aren’t you that mate of Tylzz Jim? 😀👍🏻
@@Challenger4WD it was the 1st time I've met him
@@FlatBrokeAdventures it was a good photo too, you both looked good.
Thanks. Photo was taken by Shad Donahue as he was working on Tyler's stand
Very cool mate, loved the then and now footage. Wonder if there's any fishing to be had out there in the Wolgan River (Carp only I'd guess). Looks like a cool place for a night or two of solitude.
Thankyou, it’s all closed off at the moment but they’ll reopen when the stabilise the road. The river is shallow there at Newnes so probably only carp but it joins the Colo eventually. It’s busy in summer but winter there’s plenty of quiet spots to enjoy. 😀👍🏻
Good video mate. You’ve sure been some places.
Thx Jarrad, there’s still a lot of places I haven’t been though! 😀👍🏻
@@Challenger4WD you’ve got that right, mate. There’s always somewhere to go and something to see.
Good to see you getting back out on the tracks having fun
Thx Jim, yeah Stockton last week I’d never been to before so I ticked that off my list. Six Foot Track is another I haven’t done. And Abercrombie NP, I went years ago but I need to get back there as well..😀🤙🏼
@@Challenger4WD I have the 6 foot track on my to do list. I've never been to Lithgow or Bathurst, so that area is high on my list as is the Vic High Country and the Old Tele Track. I could be going to Moreton Island next year. But I still need to get the 4wd working so I can get back out there.
Another great video Neil... I think I'll head down there for an explore.. You always head out to some great places. Looking forward to the next vid.
Thanks for that, I think Belanglo is mostly closed and Penrose too so atm Wingello may be the only one still open.😀🤙🏼
deflate your tires and drive slower and you'll drive right out.
I don’t think these are going to have any real impact. We’ve had Chinese Utes for quite a a few years now and they haven’t impacted sales of the mainstream vehicles. I think the fact that there’s bugger all aftermarket support really hurts their appeal.
The Tank looks good but reliability and availability of parts and as you said, accessories, will be a big factor in how many are sold. I’ve seen a few out on the tracks already but yeah time will tell. 😀👍🏻
why does sand attract dipshits??
Good to see you getting out again Neil, hopefully we can catch up again soon. Life gets in the way, though ...
Yeah I hope so but all the guys have young families now so I get it. Those dunes at Stockton are excellent though. I’ll def go back there at some point.😀🤙🏼
Chinese cheap crap
17 still too high. 15 is starting point for beach driving and go down from there. People really do get overly concerned at going down that far but it's not an issue.
Thanks digger old mate, good advice! 😀🤙🏼
Nice video Neil. Did you let more air out of you tyres when doing the recovery? You didn't mention anything. I'd have dropped down to about 12 or 13 and also dropped the other cars down to about 10 especially with only 2wd working.
My wife said the same thing? 😀 I didn’t think of doing it haha, not to worry. Yes it’s a good idea, maybe next time I’ll remember. 🤙🏼😀
You guys are absolute legends, saved the day for both of us. Great video too, keep up the great work👍🏼
Thanks Mason, it was great to meet you guys, and we were glad to help. 😀🤙🏼
Did you check to see if the dog was trapped? Just in case you're right about zero residents? 😥 A lot of those huts have been rebuilt due to fires, (which you already know) maybe that's why it looked in such good nik. 🤔 Interesting video. Too much reading for me. 😅 Thanks for sharing.
I didn’t think about that? I love dogs too! I think there’s a caretaker so hopefully it was ok. 😀👍🏻
again thank you for sharing .
Thx Carmello 👍🏻😀
100 no 105!
The couple who own it told me it was a 105? 😀🤙🏼
Nice editing🤩
Thanks, yeah CapCut is a good editing tool too. Makes it easier to do nice clips. 😀🤙🏼
Great adventure, Neil! Loved the scenic drive through Wingello State Forest and the stunning views at Long Point Lookout, those views challenges our blue mountains series
Thanks mate, yeah I watched the trailer for your Blue Mountains series! Looks insane? I see you took the truck and trailer up Baal Bone? Haha so good can’t wait to watch it. 😀🤙🏼
@@Challenger4WD sight to see for sure. Was a ripper experience
Great to see you back out having adventures. That lookout was awesome. Thanks for sharing Neil.
Thanks Jim! 😀🤙🏼
Cheers for sharing. What navigation app are you using?
Thanks mate, just Google maps. I download the relevant map in case there’s no mobile coverage and it’s normally pretty good. 👍🏻😀
My father-in-law challenge goes up steeper hills than that
I don’t know if you’re local? But has he been up Baal Bone? Or Lost City West also has steep rocky bits. My Challenger will do both of those? 😀👍🏻
rippa content mate

Nice work mate, great views and I love the way you have a crack on these roads, especially with what look like road tyres. Good stuff. Subbed.
Thanks for subbing and the nice comments, 🤙🏼😀
Thanks for posting some new roads to investigate
No worries I enjoyed exploring too! 😀🤙🏼
Just found your channel, love it. I noticed at the 12:00 minute mark when you leave the camp found there is something hanging under front end. I am sure if it was something you would have found it by now haha. Plenty of videos for me to peruse so thank you 👍🏻
Haha yes it was the bash plate. A mangled mess! I fitted an OCAM one in the next video I think. Thx for the comment! 😀👍🏻
The Chally sounds so good
It does doesn’t it? I’m going to get a new vehicle at some point and I’ll miss the Challenger! 😀🤙🏼
Keep polluting nature with that big suv
I think the EV’s are much worse for the environment? Maybe hydrogen will be the way forward, time will tell? 😀🤙🏼
@@Challenger4WD Who talked about EVs?
I did? You’re against diesel vehicles so I assumed you were an EV fan. If not, are you a bushwalker or cyclist who wants no vehicles in nature?
Great video. I like travelling solo. Thanks your video good tips for anyone 👍
Thanks Tim, I enjoyed that track too! 😀🤙🏼
That was very good mate, well done.
Thanks mate I enjoyed the track too! 🤙🏼😬
different line, different momentum, who knows what suspension and what gear they were choosing but im guessing itd be different too. neither of these cars should struggle on that.
A shovel would of been better to use to move the dirt have fun replacing heaps of parts real soon if you keep it up
