    *"Consequences: An Intelligence Officer's War" (book 2020) by David Grantham* David Grantham does a superb job describing what it is like to be an Intelligence Officer in a Combat Zone. As a member of the USAF Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), he describes one of the most difficult disciplines in the Intelligence Field, Human Intelligence, which includes recruiting and running sources, as well as analysis to create an all source product for Commanders and other National Security Decision Makers to use. This effort also dovetails with Counter-Intelligence, which protects friendly forces and foils intelligence collection efforts by adversaries. His experiences at Camp Cropper gives us an insight not only into the works of Al Qaeda in Iraq but also the genesis of ISIS. I highly recommend this to graduate students and the general public if they want to know what it is like in the Intelligence Community in an armed conflict. PS: It’s definitely a unique agency with a global reach, and worth looking into if you want to get started and do something with a global nexus. It exposes you to a lot of different case types so you can decide what you want to focus on. I truly think OSI is a great entry-level job.Unless you go overseas, I think it’s a pretty pleasant agency for your whole career. OSI is comprised of mostly really young agents, so the atmosphere has a whole lot more camaraderie than many other agencies. Most people are single with no kids, so there’s a lot more hanging out with co-workers outside of work. There is Huge micromanagement - and generally the main reason people leave AFOSI.

    In popular culture the 71S Special Investigations (CSI for the Air Force!): In the 2008 film Eagle Eye, actress Rosario Dawson played AFOSI Special Agent Zoe Perez. In the 2013 film Mirage Men, Richard Doty, a retired OSI special agent, played himself in a documentary about the AFOSI investigation into UFOs between 1952 and 1969. In the seventh episode of Season 8 in the 1997 television series Stargate SG-1, SG-1 team member Teal'c has been given permission to live off-base by the OSI in general, but is subsequently investigated by AFOSI officer 'Colonel Kendrick' for stopping or otherwise becoming involved with crimes in his neighbourhood. In the first episode of Season 2 in the 2013 television series The Americans, KGB Agents Phillip Jennings (Matthew Rhys) and Emmett Connors posed as "United States Air Force Security Forces" and wore OSI badges.

Also counterintelligence investigations related to government employment and sometimes also internal affairs investigations of employee misconduct. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). GS-11: One year of specialized experience in planning, developing, and conducting criminal investigations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). @FEDLEO Před rokem

      As a 1811 primary you are aged out unfortunately; however, you can still apply to secondary positions which do not have the stringent hiring age cutoff of 37. Most military retirees get into 1811 series this way. Some other agencies to consider for 1811 special agent position are Defense Logistics Agency OIG and DFAS, and once in awhile you will MCIO like NCIS, CID, and AFOSI post some vacancies (though usually at the GS13 level).

    • @FEDLEO
      @FEDLEO Před rokem

      Furthermore, if you really are committed to getting into a 6c or 2d LEO position, you might want to consider joining CBP Border Patrol or CBP officer,. Their hiring age cutoff is up to age 40. If you are hired by them is stops the age clock for primary LEO coverage, and once you in you can can then start to apply to any 6c covered positions without having any issues if you later transition to a 1811 position.
