Can't believe I hadn't heard this and it's the original. The State of Alert cover frankly blows this away. It's so raw and violent in comparison, even if I do like this as well. A tad melodic for my tastebuds though.
How can a cover'blow' the original away when the cover was the original inspiration? The SOA song is just an interpretation of the original. Back in 1979, most listeners would consider this a 'fast punk song'. The hardcore label didn't exist so any restrospective rebranding of it is just complete nonsense.

@@incumbentvinyl9291 There was no such thing as hardcore in the UK in 1979. The point being punk music made by the Subs was never hardcore. These were all retrospective labels that came later. There's much speculation about the origins of the word 'hardcore' in North America. DOA were the first to use it in the early 80's but we used the label 'hardcore punks' in 1980 to differentiate between the major label punk bands who had all used punk to further their music careers. Think the likes of Discharge, Disorder, Chaos UK and Anti Pasti.
