Essential Farm Work: Log Tongs & Fence Repair
Today we are testing out some new log tongs to get a tree that had blown over on the fence and get the remainder of the tree on our side of the fence. Then we have to fix the fence so we can get the cows turned back out into this pasture

Impressive saw Mike!
Thank you Mr Dustin. It was a fun saw to build
That clover looks great! Did you drill it or broadcast?
Thank you sir. I broadcasted that. I don't own a drill yet so everything gets broadcasted. It turned out great. Well see what it looks like next year
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I’m a firm believer in broadcasting, it works great!
@faithfulfarmadventures3898 I've had great luck with it. I'm sure I do waste more than I would with a drill
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I know I do lol
Only downside is the logs get dirty so gotta brush them off before bucking. Cool tool. Keep cuttin' Mike!!
@travisdoesfirewood Hey Travis, I've never thought about brushing them off. Not a bad idea.
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead just an idea, got it from NBR. hell one time I had to power wash some rounds off they were so dirty!
@@travisdoesfirewood lol that's crazy. I usually just try a cut from the side that wasn't in the dirt. But still you're going to hit dirt at some point. Maybe that's why I keep so many spare sharp chains lol.
You just never know!
Hey Mr Ted.
Hate red wasps as well. I had an issue close to this. I took a big black trashbag and a in house bug fogger. Pulled that bag over the device with the nest in it and set the fog bomb off inside.
Hey Sonic, Did the fogger work well? I haven't ever used one of those. I really dislike wasps. Thank you watching
Definitely something i need to invest in now! Did the tongs bend or twist ? They looked pretty well built.
They have a slight bend to them not bad at all though. They do work extremely well
Good stuff! Log tongs have been around for a long long time. They have even been used in high lead logging with the big towers. If the harder operator is good enough you don't even need anyone out in the brush like choker setters are. Of course that's of he can see. If not there's one guy down in the brush telling the yarder operator when to drop the tongs on the log!
I would like to see a logging operation up close. Those guys are talented
Mama cows over to greener pastures💚🐂
Teamwork makes the dream work
Yes is does
Nice work Rusty Mike - that lil trailer is grunting 😉😉
Hey 902, lol I think it felt every bit of it.
I take it there's a lower strand of wire so you can't drag them thru? Oh, some old American wire, ok At least yours aren't bawling nonstop. If mine aren't actively eating, they're screaming. I've found the only way to keep cows in is keep the barn door closed.😅😅
Hey Brandon, Yes that lower bit of wire was smashed down but still off the ground about a foot and a half so I didn't want to cut it. These girls don't have time to bawl when they all act like they are starving lol. I need to build another barn closer to my house. The old barn at my grandparents' house is the only one on the property and it's in a separate pasture. I also need to build a few hooches in some of these pastures just to give these girls some coverage.
Hey Mike 👍🚜
Hey Mr. Len
Sometimes it's just a fraction of an inch to get that balance point
Hey Mr Tim. It really was. I didn't have to move them very much to make a big difference.
Mornin the real okie
Hey Mr Todd. Morning
Long as there's not too many, I don't really mind seeing a bee or 2. But wasps... nope! A@@holes with wings I tell ya!
Great information and nice video! Thanks much!
Thank you Moselli. Glad it was helpful
Your red wasps may be different than my red wasps... But those look like mud daubers, not aggressive at all.
we have mud daubers here as well they dont bother you. ours have some yellow and black on the bodys.
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead It's the opposite here... Funny how that works. Mud daubers are red/brown, paper wasps are yellow and black. I'm severely allergic to ant and wasp stings... But I'm cool with mud daubers. Paper wasps can burn in hell.
@HighOnTacos that's crazy. Mud dancers don't bother me. Every other wasp, hornet, & bumblebee can burn. My deer stand up north usually has a nice large wasp nest in it every year when I get there. I've learned to bring several cans of spray with me.
Log Tongs Used In This Video: amzn.to/3ynDU4Q
No fun!
Highly dislike those creatures.
Just sprayed yellow jacket nest outside kids window. I caught a bumble bee in bottom lip when I was 5-6. Hurt like hell.
Yellow jackets are a pain. I've got stung by those alot when I was a kid. Bumblebees are on another level. Usually find a Bumblebee nest when I'm mowing hay. Those dude are painful when they sting. They will chase you also. I got nailed 4 times by Bumblebees a few years ago in my belly.
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead luckily my major problem in hay fields is woodchucks. The bombs don't seem to work anymore, .270 is too expensive and time consuming, and can't find someone to come sit for awhile. Any suggestions?
@brandonhoad9033 oh dang idk. I have one around here that keeps burrowing under my shop. They won't go in a trap. I'm not sure. I wonder if you could tote a water tank out there and drowned em.
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead with the gravel I have , that would take a water tower. Someone said small bag of gas and puncture it. I got a giant tub of double bubble to try the gum theory, WE chewed it up😅😅
@@brandonhoad9033 Ah ya the water will just drain out to fast. I have heard of someone turning on the acetylene on a torch setup and filling the hole. Then lighting it. I seen that on YT somewhere. Would make for an entertaining video for sure lol.

Awful creatures
czcams.com/video/zkuW7t64mOs/video.htmlfeature=shared
That weed you are pulling is pigweed. I have battled them for years.
That stuff is awful
Glad you're safe buddy. Keep cuttin'!
Thank you Travis
I saw cloth rope in VT.
I'm curious how well that stuff works.
I opened a battery box couple of weeks ago and there was no battery but there was a huge wasp nest and immediately had one stap me in the arm, strange thing was the nest was empty , two days later I lifted the the propane tank cover next time battery box .....wasp nest ...not a empty one that time ....I dropped the cover and got out of there ...going back when it gets COLD or when I'm covered in more than a t shirt and shorts LOL. Hope you have a great week and stay safe.
Ah i know the feeling. My father still uses propane. I learned along time ago to walk around it want watch it for a bit before opening. They have got me a few times. I really don't like wasps
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead nope me either lol
would have like to have seen the wasper chasing you 😂
lol. I'm sure several people would have found that funny.
I like the metal curly q posts they work good for me
I need to get some of those. Do you use the wire or the tape?
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I use wire when i use electric but I use them all over the place on the pumpkin patch with rope and banners and they hold up great I move them around all the time and haven’t ever broke any. But you can only run one wire where the ones you use can run multiple wires.
@faithfulfarmadventures3898 that would be fine ill give those curly q ones a try. I usually only run one wire.
I've been shocked by a fencer. Not fun. Lol. Jason once got shocked while standing in water. I think his experience was worse than mine. 😅 But this is cool having a solar option! I hate wasps...would much rather be shocked by a fencer to be honest! Next time cover yourself up! It could be deadly. I had a hard time watching, (anxiety) but I must say I like the double fisted approach with the Wasp spray 😂
Hey Loretta, I really despise these devilish creatures and most all other flying/stinging insects. I've gotten stung by them a lot over the years. I would much rather get hit by a fencer. I bet Jason did get hit hard being in water. He was about as conductive as he could be. some of these things hit really hard. Don't they use something like this for bears as well? I'm actually surprised you all have wasps that far north. I would of just assumed you didn't. Do you have the angry red ones as well?
@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I've never seen red ones but we have yellow jackets and many others I'm not sure of the names. They're awful.
Very Awful. The bad thing is the wasp spray doesn't last long. seems like a can is over soon after you use it. Red ones are awful
Wire 100% Nothing meaner than white faced hornets. A few times. Got a neighbor when we were kids, peeing on one. He went straight on it, didn't notice that I was going side to side. Wanna see messed up, Google my name/stolen calf. Think it's still there. Was 14-15 yrs ago.
All hornets are mean and angry. I was shaking in my boots when I got my hornets' nest out of a tree "decoration" lol I have seen my buddy do the same thing to a hot fence we had years ago. Oh, wow that is crazy. I would have been pissed. I have never heard of someone killing a cow and taking some of the meat to a campsite to eat. Glad they got found.
@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I used my employee to trick the younger one into admitting. He left a perfect print in a patty. Neighbor told me bout them "camping" so I got the trooper to go there since it's Mom's land. He asked them to show boot soles, and his was perfect match. Very uncommon pattern. So I used that. In the early 1800s Indians stole one from the guy who built Mom's house. He heard the bellering and got there in time to watch them paddle back up stream
Ah that's crazy. I can see that happening back then. around those times that would of been "More" normal. For someone to do that now or even 20 years ago is almost unheard of. Thats crazy and I'm glad they were caught. Luckly most criminals Arnt the smartest people
So much love ❤ 🐄
Very Happy mama cows
What r the brown cows ?
The 2 off colors where bottle calf's me and the wife did years ago. They were both supposed to be beefmasters when we got them but clearly one is not lol. not sure exactly what she is.
