How to Automatically Add Grade Rules for Sewing Patterns on Microsoft Excel
This is a quick way to get the dimensions for each size in a nested sewing pattern, assuming you know the grade rules. This is useful for checking the final patterns.
1. In the cell next to the base size measurement, type “=[base size cell] + [grade rule]” for the bigger sizes, "-" for the smaller ones.
2. With | on the grade rule, press f4 so it has dollar signs in it.
3. Press "enter"
4. Drag the bottom right corner of the newly filled cell horizontally across the size range
5. Drag the bottom right corner of the newly filled cell to the DOWN across the size range, OR double click it.

How PROFESSIONAL Tailors Hem Trousers/Pants without Pins
zhlédnutí 788Před 4 lety
Professional tailors and seamstresses often sew without pins, and without pressing first. A lot of the time, they even sew with just a standard presser foot on their machine, instead of with a fancy hemmer foot. This is how I sewed hems when I worked for a major jeans company.
Very helpful, thank you. Please choose other music to accompany instruction. It was very distracting. Again, the lesson was very useful for a project I’m working. Best to you.
In the english language it is called a sweater, which is not a knitted fabric.
Beginner here: During the marking step, how did you know your new arm hole marking would fit the sleeve you cut off? Whenever I do stuff like this, the arms always get botched. Can you let me know what I can do to get the same result? Or does someone know where I can learn more about this exact type of arm hole alteration? I can't find any video that explains this.
It's a while ago now, but I think I just knew from the pinning stage that the sleeve would be wide enough. I think I gave the armscye a roughly correct shape when I cut it - you can look at pictures of sweatshirt sleeve patterns to see what that looks like. So, when I sewed the new underarm seam (the one that goes from cuff to hem), they would match in length automatically. As I say, it's been a few years since I did this video, but I think that's roughly how I did it :)
Merci beaucoup pour votre vidéo 👍 Je vais la garder de côté quand j'aurai des sweats à mon mari a refaire. 😊 Merci 👍
Thank you for sharing in such a clear and concise way how to do something new to me..
I disliked this tutorial because the example shown is not a traditional knitted sweater as the title implies, it's a sweatshirt.
Great explanation thanks ❤
This is NOT A SWEATER🤬🤬🤬 A sweater is made from YARN Its called a SWEATSHIRT‼️‼️‼️ With a hood and zipper its a sweatjacket, with a hood, front pocet, and no zipper, its called a hoodie. I REALLY wish your generation would get it right‼️‼️‼️ It makes it difficult to search and is verry annoying when you dint refer to things by their proper names‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
It’s a language. Languages evolve. Very frustrating for us oldsters.
Looks like a jumper to me😊
Amazing video. Exactly the resource i needed!
Thank you for such a clear and helpful video.
Glad it was helpful! :)
My anxiety 📈 when she started cutting
Love this video, as a beginner it's the most simple tutorial I've come across! Would this same method work for jumpers of different fabrics or t-shirts?
I think you could use it on t-shirts. With sweater knits you'd have to be careful as they might unravel.
awesome alteration TNs
Fantastic, now I know how to do it but can the same thing be done with a knitted jersey?
It would depend on the specific fabric. With a loose knit, I'd be very careful and probably use a sewing machine as well as an overlocker. Stabilising the seams and using a walking foot might also help, but it really depends on the fabric's properties.
I have a beautiful silk sweater that's way too big since I lost weight. I just couldn't give it away because I loved it but didn't know what to do with it. Now, thanks to you, I know I will be able wear it again! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
My name is samreena
If you looked até the dizer of my sweatshirt... It's much, much biggest than this one, it's huge, Very long and wide. If i wear It out all loose, It looks like i'm wearing a dtess, it's the way i like It: big, without a hood and with a kangaroo pocket.
Then you're wearing a HOODIE‼️‼️‼️
Great tips! Thanks
I’m looking for someone to alter my sweater anybody live in Hesperia ca ?
Hey dude u r osm 😘
I had to look osm up, but thank you 😅
Thank you. I’m hoping to fix my moms Christmas sweatshirt this way today. It’s very large across the chest and shoulders. And now I have returned to do a very similar project. The first one came out perfectly.
Happy to hear it! 😊
I have a question. I have a hoodie which is 3 times too big on me, would I be able to send it to you to have it made smaller? I’d obviously pay :)))))
Thank you, but I don't do alterations outside of my day job any more due to stress 😅
Take it to an alterations place in your location, perhaps dry cleaners? Also you could practice on a thrift store purchase before tackling a better garment.
This video has been a GREAT help today! I sew for our holiday play by refurbishing used clothing. I found the perfect red and blue stripe sweater but it was a size XXL and I needed a size M for the performer. Your video filled in a couple of steps that I would have missed and ruined the original. Thank you!
Thank you! I'm so happy it helped!
Hello.
Thanks so mutch sweety !!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Impressive. You took your time and did a beautiful job. Thank you.
Thank you very much 😊
Thank you, I was wondering how people do this, but it makes sense now the way you do it. Would you say its more accurate or less so, with ironing down the edges first?
It can be more accurate to iron first. I would decide based on how much the fabric stretched out of shape, and whether it was suitable for pressing. Most of the time I don't press until after sewing.
Do you think there is any difference between this method, and the method of simply sewing down the side and armpit/sleeve and then cutting off the excess?
Doing it that way would mean you'd have to resew the cuff (because the sleeves would be quite long) and the armscye seam would be further down your arm. It depends what result you want :)
I am a retired tailor and you did an awesome alteration. I hate when those overlocks don't work correctly!
Thank you! 🥰 That means a lot!
Very beautiful 👏🏻
Thank you! 😊
The music is so loud I can't hear what you're saying. I can see what you're doing so it's all good.
Thank you for pointing this out. I've tried to fix it but I can't find a way to do it. All future videos will have quieter background music. This one does have subtitles, if that helps. :)
@@SabrinaCWB168 No its fine, I could hear enough to make sense of it. I'm puzzled by the sewing videos where no one talks, they point at things and hold the ruler up to the camera and do things with fabric. Mostly from India and Africa I think. Thank you for the nice reply!
Hi, Great work!
