StreetSmartEdge® to thinkorswim® Desktop Platform | Michael Fairbourn & Kevin Horner | 8-22-24
Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options. bit.ly/2v9tH6D
Today's class started with a step by step review of importing a watchlist from StreetSmart Edge® to the thinkorswim® platform directly. Once completed, we explored some of the column customizations a trader might use in the MarketWatch tab and then migrated to the heat map option on the same page. Next, we moved from the heat map to the Analyze tab directly and explored some pertinent individual stock details available on this page. Along the way today we worked to answer live questions from the chat.
For those active StreetSmart Edge® users looking to make the transition to the thinkorswim® platform, this webcast will familiarize you with much of the chart functionalities. Join us so we can help you take advantage of your favorite chart features of StreetSmart Edge® on the thinkorswim® platform.
Options carry a high level of risk and are not suitable for all investors. Certain requirements must be met to trade options through Schwab. Please read the Options Disclosure Document titled "Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options" before considering any option transaction.

where can I find the customeVolume script?
thank you so much for the help , videos like this mean the world sometimes.
Fantastic!!!!@@!!!!!
I have opened and started my live account. Can I use this tool even to look for stock less than $50? I only want to risk about 10%
Mr. Ken. Can the trade journal (Spread) be used for Iron Condors.
Fantastic class JB. Hope you had a fantastic 37th birthday ;p all the best to you sir
loved it
I might be totally off in this but, would there be any advantage to selling an at the money put or a put that is just inside the money at the formation of a cluster? Then if assigned the shares selling a call at the previous peak? Just sounding this out.
James, can I use this in reverse; if I'm bearish on a stock? 1) Sell a call at stock's resistance. 2) Buy a call, otm, where I think stock price will never get to.. 3) Buy a put at the same strike I sold the call(#1). Finally set up an exit on the short call(#1) and long put(#3) Because both have negative deltas. Thank you
Seems you can't change custom columns in the paper money acct on the app only works in the real live account, at least when I just tried it now on my Android phone ToS app.
Great energy JB. keep doing the good stuff you do. Thanks
Very good, clear and concise session. Tons of valuable information! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! ^BW
Thank you sir for great clarity.. I have a question. What happens if you neither reached profit target nor loss target since we are not monitoring?
If ITM, it will be exercised and settle to cash for the amount of intrinsic. If OTM, it will expire worthless. ^BW
Great class and scan and breakdown of the process MF thanks.. Keep up the great work
Thanks for the great class and scripts LB.
Around 27 minute mark. The question was how to you find realized gains/losses, the tab in street smart edge. The answer was to display "unrealized" gains and losses of current positions. Where do I find realized gains and loss. I assume it would be in the account statement tab. In Street Smart Edge you can only see realized gains/losses for the current days trades.
Can we add an additional indicator like the Bollinger Bands to this scan filter to ensure the stock is trading at or near the middle Bollinger Band line, in order to avoid potential breakouts or breakdowns?
Thank you Barb, this mini sessions are amazing!! Question: Where can I get the scripts?
I came here wanting to learn how to transfer & access the streaming platform from my StreetSmart Edge platform to thinkorswim streaming platform. All this History is a waste of my time. You should have left Streetsmartedge alone and developed Platform for trading options, futures & Forex for those who need them because Streetsmart Edge was perfect for most of our needs.
it would be nice to have a new kind of static watchlist that retains chart settings for each item on the list and you can have duplicates. so the first column could be a hidden index # col. the second column could be chart style with annotations. this could be used for market indicators and tratio charts that you don't rade off of but access the health of various markets and sectors.
Can you do virtual covered calls in the platform? As in purchase stock and sell the calls? Thanks
To be straightforward, I’m done with investing in stocks. I’ve been putting $2,000 to $3,000 a month into them, but all I see is decline. It’s incredibly frustrating, especially since I stick to stable, large companies. How can I make the most of this market?
Great Buying opportunities today. Embracing pullbacks and correction is key. This is where the money is made!
@@kingzhao3587 Due to the pressures of my job, I can’t spend time analyzing my investments or individual stocks. As a result, I’ve had a fiduciary manage my portfolio for the last seven years, adapting it to market conditions. This approach has proven fruitful, with a 330% increase in my portfolio since the COVID-19 pandemic, now close to $1 million. I believe this is a strategy worth exploring for other investors.
Sometimes Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over.
Nobody knows anything, you need to create your own process, manage risk and stick to the plan, through thick or thin ,While also continuously learning from mistakes and improving
@@williamskanbar Many overlook that banks are return-driven businesses. I don't trust keeping a large sum in a bank. Instead, I invest with guidance, enjoy the benefits, and save for retirement.
@@dareadams2669 After the '08 financial crisis, I've learned not to trust corporations. Since 2020, I've been investing with a financial advisor and have had no major losses, so I'm not going back to relying solely on banks.
@@dareadams2669 The 2008 financial meltdown made me distrustful of corporations. Since 2020, working with a financial advisor has kept my investments secure, and I have no intention of relying solely on banks again.
@@dareadams2669 Post-2008, I realized I couldn't rely on corporations for financial stability. Since 2020, my investments with a financial advisor have been solid, and I’m not returning to just banking on banks.
Your habit confused a lot
How does one add the 4 weeks or 3 months columns? Which other video teaches steps?
it would be nice if tos could be made with a chartbook option similar to a watch list except as you scroll down the list (which would contain market indicators like the vix and vold you would see a flex grid that never changes for each line item in the list. you could also have ratio charts in it. that way you can review the state of the market in different time frames each day in a similar fashion with just up and down arrow keys.

Thank you Cam - I have used PSAR for two years and did not know how it was calculated
Thank you Ben for furthering my education on DTE
Glad you enjoyed it. ^BW
I am curious how you do a time stop, is it in your order?
A time based order can be created using the Conditional Order tools on thinkorswim. It would be a "Submit order at (specified time)" type of conditional. ^BW

Trader Talks: Schwab Coaching Webcasts, amazing content bro
Getting the trend right is critical as these are 50/50 trades
Absolutely! ^BW
Please clarify the use of indicators on different time frames. Let's say I use 10 days Moving Average on a dayly chart; MA represents 10 days, but if I switch to an hourly time frame, MA will represent 10 hours, not 10 days. Am I right?
That's exactly right! Sounds like you're catching right on. Thanks for watching! ^CM

Thank You ^BW
@@tradertalkswebcasts I've been binging on your videos, and other Schwab videos. Very helpful. Thank you!
PSAR and OBV and ATR (2.5) are my favorite indicators! 😎
I hope my video was helpful, and thanks for watching! ^CM
Back to the Future! God Bless You Ben Watson.
Thank you for watching! ^BW
Much appreciated Ben Watson.
Absolutely! ^BW
There may be only one thing that needs to be added: a news catalyst, such as earnings, a new product, a new boss, etc., that helps fuel a fast, robust rise or fall in the stock. What do you think? I've usually had a successful trade when indicators and news line up.
You've raised a solid point. This is an example of combining fundamental analysis with technical analysis, which plenty of traders and even investors certainly do. With that said, this series focuses exclusively on technical analysis, so I do not attempt to address potential additional fundamental considerations. Thanks for the comments! ^CM
Poor explanation. He didn't specify what each instrument is. Nor did he say how to select particular future from FUTURES drop down list, nor what's LTD , or nothing really. We know that oil can move without his video....
You are the best
Thank you, and thanks for watching! ^CM
Fantastic class and scripts MF. thanks
how do I remove a custom script that I setup for a watchlist column?
Go to the watchlist. Click on the sprocket on the right hand side. Choose customize. Choose the script you want to delete in the column on the right. Choose remove item. ^Barb
@@tradertalkswebcasts that does not remove the script for the available items.
Thanks KH. Good stuff. Keep it up
