Hanuman Chalisa With the dust of Guru’s Lotus feet, I cleanse the mirror of my mind, And then I narrate the sacred glory of Sri Raghuvar, the supreme among Raghus, which bestows the four fruits of life (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha). Knowing myself to be ignorant, I meditate on you, O Son of the Wind, Grant me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, removing all my miseries and blemishes. ॥Doha॥ Victory to Hanuman, the ocean of wisdom and virtue, Victory to the Lord of monkeys who is renowned in all the three worlds. You are the messenger of Ram and the abode of immeasurable strength, You are also known as Anjani-putra (son of Anjani) and Pavana-suta (son of the wind). You are a great hero, extremely valiant, your body like a thunderbolt, You rid evil thoughts and are a companion of those who have good thoughts. Your complexion is golden, and your dress is beautiful, You wear earrings and have curly hair. You hold a thunderbolt and a flag in your hands, and wear the sacred thread of Munja grass on your shoulder. You are the incarnation of Lord Shiva and the delight of Kesari, Your glory is revered throughout the world. You are knowledgeable, virtuous, and very clever, You are always keen to perform tasks for Lord Ram. You are ever eager to listen to the deeds of Lord Ram, You have Ram, Lakshman, and Sita residing in your heart. Assuming a tiny form, you appeared to Sita, Assuming a dreadful form, you burned the city of Lanka. Assuming a gigantic form, you destroyed the demons, You accomplished the mission of Lord Ram. You brought the Sanjeevani herb and revived Lakshman, Raghupati (Lord Ram) joyfully embraced you. Raghupati praised you greatly, Saying you are as dear to me as my brother Bharat. The thousand-headed serpent sings of your glory, Saying so, Lord Ram embraced you. Sanak and the sages, even Brahma, the great hermit Narad and Saraswati along with Sheshnag, the cosmic serpent, Yama, Kubera, and the Digpals (guardians of the four directions) - none can express your glories fully. You rendered a great service to Sugriva, By introducing him to Ram and restoring him to the throne. Vibhishan accepted your counsel, And became the king of Lanka, known across the world. You swallowed the sun, being a thousand yojanas away, Considering it to be a sweet fruit. Carrying Lord Ram’s ring in your mouth, You crossed the ocean, no wonder. All the difficult tasks in the world are rendered easy by your grace, You are the guardian at Ram’s door, no one can enter without your permission. All comforts of the world lie at your feet, You are the protector, and no one needs to fear anything. You alone control your might, All the three worlds tremble at your thunderous call. Evil spirits and ghosts do not come near, When they hear the name of Mahavir (another name for Hanuman). All diseases and pain vanish, When one continuously chants your name, O Hanuman. Hanuman frees those from all difficulties, Who remember him in thought, word, and deed. All who seek Lord Ram’s divine abode, Achieve their tasks through your grace. Your fame and glory radiate throughout the four ages, And your name shines brightly throughout the world. You protect the saints and sages, You destroy the demons and are dear to Lord Ram. Mother Janaki (Sita) granted you the boon, That you would be the bestower of the eight siddhis and the nine nidhis. You possess the essence of devotion to Ram, And you always remain the servant of Raghupati (Lord Ram). By singing your praises, one obtains Lord Ram, And the sorrows of many lifetimes are wiped out. At the time of death, one goes to the eternal abode of Lord Ram, One who worships you with devotion is called a true devotee. Even those who worship other gods, Find all pleasures only through the service of Hanuman. All troubles cease, and all pain is removed, For those who remember the mighty Hanuman. Victory, victory, victory to you, O Hanuman, the lord of senses, Grant me your grace, as does the supreme Guru. One who recites this Hanuman Chalisa one hundred times, Is released from bondage and obtains great happiness. Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa, Attains perfection, witness being Lord Shankara himself. Tulsidas, who is always the servant of Hari, Prays for Hanuman to reside in his heart. ॥Doha॥ O Son of the Wind, remover of all difficulties, embodiment of blessings, Reside in my heart, along with Ram, Lakshman, and Sita.
