Hello, I dealt with a lot of dealerships, and indie repairs and I find you guys all the most professional way to handle repairs and deal with customers a video is a thousand words,
My 04 Electra Electra glide primary is making a loud whining sound what could it be
Been waiting a long time to put comments on these crooks webpage. I can not count the number times these crooks refused to correct problems under warranty for my 99 twin cam..........!!!!!!!!!!!....bastards....!!!!!!!!! These people ; also the one's who quoted me to sign off on $424 dollars a month times 72 for a brand new soft-tail ; and threatened me with violence to had back the signed agreement ; not even a sales contract. Lucky for me, I take photo of said contract with my iPhone....:} They just wanted the guarantee I would pay them the $30 grand up front for it......and of course this is way above the 6.99 percent financing they advertise on their web page....YOu SOB's ; this not over yet.....!!!!! I pulled the primary chain drive out ; and replaced it with a 3 inch (enclosed) belt drive. That was over 10K miles ago, on my 99 twin cam, still works just fine and dandy. Harley will never go with a primary belt drive. They are too robust, and dealers would take a huge hit in "shop income" not fixing primary chain drive problems......
Pretty sure my seal just blew on the way home...
'Industrial locktite' fuck you Harley.
C'mon San Jose HD, we need your videos ! I love this channel hehe
Does the water not kill the rings?
I just repaired a flood 2017 streeglide motor was not turning took plugs out plenty of water came out dry started til all water came out new plugs ran wire from starter solenoid too hot on starter after a few tries it started up
Harley-Davidson is full of shit at this point. They have new technology, and a new motor top to bottom and they put a chain primary drive on the engine still in 2017 and 2018. I mean give me a break, HD could use the current primary cover for appearances and go to a smoother less maintenance GEAR DRIVE PRIMARY and they know it. The Milwaukee 8 motor eliminated the twin cams and chain tentioners on both sides of the cam plate right?
oh they have a 'new' motor, oh they have a new 'technology'. My last Harley was a 2006 Nightrain, after I saw the way Harley Corporate handled the cam tensioner debacle... Indian all the way. I don't have issue with a failure here and there, but when a company won't stand by a customer who spent $20,000 + on one of their products because of a blatant design flaw- that tells all. Boys & Girls... Indian.
trim the nut in a lathe some are to long and never get tight it bottoms out on threads.
Hey Bill, yea...there is a lot of people in all diff forums, saying exactley what you said. Ive been telling my Indy this, for a year......he always told me , there is no SPACER/WASHER, or comp nut adjustment, with the 2005 and earlier bikes. Till this day, i have a knocking when hot, at idle, under no load.(comp preloading) i put 3 comps. 2 diff sprocket sets, and he torqued down to 165, with the whole new torque procedure from harley....and i still hear the fuckin thing knock. so i give up, and ride it like i stole it!! ( i do have high Andrews 37g cams in there, that did start knocking like a big block chevy, right after i installed them), so it might be that sound transfering over to the primary side from cam chest?? dont know.
When the aluminum has a bunch of white spots, what does that mean?
A tip [ for the factory too ] is to be sure that the three compensator lobes are evenly pressing on the related mating surfaces---if---the lobes prefer one, say...it would 'cock' the loads on the sliding splines. Perhaps one of the compensator cam plates could be seated on a spherical surface to allow for uniform loading of the sliding splines. Or, a close 'finish' grinding on the cams for quite accurate load shaing. Emery cloth strips might allow refinishing the contact areas in the shop.
You can't tell if the valve adjustment is okay if it is quieter. Of course it's going to be quieter as the valves seat more the space between the camshaft in the adjustment shim decrease. What kind of mechanics are you anyway the only way they get noisier if your cam lobe starts to wear out which doesn't happen unless there's a real problem like running it out of oil. Dispute that Einstein!!
Talk about great service!
So...... you didn't fix the noise?
gay
hey there my name is dustin were did u get most of the parts on the bike and do u have a email address that I can talk to u about the black xr 1200 ttys

You CAN adjust the valves with the engine in the frame. Hot Cams makes a shim kit for you to do this and the Manual is very helpful in getting it done. You only have to lay down lots of money for the dealer mechs if you have zero tolerance for dirty hands and a little bit of reading. So wrong Tomcata1467.
The only way to adjust the valves on a V-Rod, is the engine has to be removed from the frame...........bad design, and a major pain in terms of a costly procedure, to make a long story short.......bottom line, get ready to fork over lots of cash, every time the valves need to be adjusted........
tomcata1467 fake news, sir!
You don't know wtf your talking about. And the Vrod is the only Harley ever made that doesn't need any maintenance done or break down for at least 100k miles. People are foolish to dislike them or comment about topend work they have obviously never done that being said go spread your bullshit elsewhere while your working on your "real Harley" lol.
And on a side note the design of the V-Rod is phenomenal! "Bad design" wtf are you talking about? "Motor has to be removed from frame" another lie? Anything else?
Hi ! I have a 2008 FLHX & i've noticed when the bike is warm, & i start it, it sounds like the left side of the bike is has something that is going to break ? i thought it sounded like the starter, But maybe it's the compensator ? The Harley dealer that i bought it from , went through the bike, before my 5 year extended warranty ran out & told me everything was fine ! After watching some of your videos , i'm, thinking that i should take the primary off , & look for wear . the engine is a 96 ci. with a stage 1 SERT, pipes and air box . Plus only 40,000 km.. What do you think ? Starter or compensator noise ? Thanks for your time !
John Vargo it is likely your compensator. Harley will replace it with a screaming eagle unit. I Got 10,000.00 km on the replacement and it sounded like nuts in a squirrel cage even though it was still within tolerance. since mine, also an 08, was off warranty, I pulled it out and installed Baker Driveline unit. initial test run was favorable with all rattle noise gone but only time will tell. my replacement was an early gneration Screaming eagle and I think there have been some improvements made since but I liked the design of the Baker unit so went that way even though it was more costly by the time I paid for delivery and currency exchange. while there is no real danger of catastrophic failure from the noisy compensator, the vibration on the end of the engine crankshaft can not be good and it could mask other engine noise , like valve train until it is to late. besides that it is annoying and embarrassing.
Thank You , For getting back to me on this subject , I appreciate your advice ! I also have a 2007 FXST & when I have it on a small sicisor lift jack , if I have the engine running , and put it in gear it starts to jerk and wobble at the rear tire . in neutral it's fine ! Would you have any thoughts as to what could be wrong ? and it has a vibration in all gears when I ride it ! I had the main shaft on the trany checked and it runs very true with a micrometer , the bearing in the inner primary is fine & the main shaft has no scaring . If you have run across this problem , can you give me an idea as for what to check ? Thank You again ! Great videos !!!
Sorry John, got nothing on its one.
From the damage to two rotors, I would say the flywheel has twisted out of true, meaning the "wobble", or the shaft run out is way more than the factory set spec of 0.001" or less, when the bike was first assembled at the factory. TC are notorious for their pressed together flywheels to twist out of true, and as the run out progressively increases, when it hits, 0.003" damage to internal engine components, begins and if the engine is not tore down and the flywheel taken to a performance specialty shop to take the flywheel apart and have the connecting rods, taken out of round and re-honed and have the flywheel components, balance, assembled and dynamically trued on a truing stand, and set the sprocket and pinion shaft run out to a max of 0.001" or less, and then have the flywheel, crank pin TIG-welded to hold both halves in true, then eventually the stock flywheel as is , will cause IMMEDIATE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. In 199 to the present, H-D, did away with a crank pin bolt and nut arrangement which held both halves of the assembly in true. Dumb idea to not do that with the higher output TC engines. Instead they went cheap and went to a pressed together flywheel where there is nothing holding the two halves in true. Nothing. Also all TC, have two silent chain drives with PLASTIC tensioners, which are designed to rub against a METAL chain and wear out and have to be periodically inspected and replaced for wear. H-D, single cam engines had a METAL GEAR DRIVE for the single cam and the oil pump. Not the TCs. Failure to replace a worn PLASTIC tensioner will cause it to break into pieces inside the engine and then the tension holder and the silent chain have METAL TO METAL contact and produce metal shavings which are inducted into the oil pump, crankcase and cylinders, and will cause IMMEDIATE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. A FATALLY FLAWED ENGINE DESIGN.
how did you get the race out ive replaced the seals twice and its leaking again I have an open primary
What wheels are those thanx
fjohnso747 - You need the pin code DUMMY.
Would be great if you guys did a tutorial of the front end installation. Thanks for posting. Looks sweet!
Cooooooooooooool
is that a Road 6 brake light?
It would be your responsibility to change the PIN after purchase. There are a lot of Yuppies who forget though....
What kind of wheels are those? They look GREAT!!!! They would look sweet on my Fatboy Lo!!!!
Do yall have a video on how to change the left lower frame for the vrod
A good alternate title would be "How to Steal a Security-Equipped H-D" ;)
The bike was from Santa Cruz (The coast) and the shifter was repaired, but removed for another issue with the left side frame rail being removed for an additional repair that wasnt mentioned. We do valve lash jobs everyday at the shop, we can handle them just fine :)
just found this video. been working on a 2002 vrod. the valve check is easy. did it in my garage. drop the bolt in the front engine mount. pretty funny the dealer can't handle the job. the valve covers are so much chrome those bolts don't seize. no way not unless you parked at the coast. I like how the shift rod falls from the tech touching it right after you said it was fixed lol and the tech is crawling around on the floor trying to fix it .
what type of handles bars are those and what are the specs ( rise pullback )
i have an 05 standard with 14000 on it .i have a knock at throttle tip in. is it possible its the compensator? would love some info .if so whats the next step?
Hi..i have a 2005 fatboy, have the same knock at hot idle and when comp is preloading, right.its normal.Indy told me 2005 and earlier bikes had slight "knock at idle, and WOT"..and that just the harmonics of the earlier TC. ps...read my above post.
Great Job !
Whoo Hoo!
Hot Bike for my Bro IN Law!
