This channel is intended for my Ceramics I, II, and Clay Sculpture students at Virginia Wesleyan University, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, who are completing their Spring 2020 semester remotely due to COVID-19 ending our face to face courses. I hope anyone interested in Ceramics will enjoy them too. I also hope you will forgive me for not being a movie star, or the very possible chance that I miss something, or produce a crude video. The faculty had less than one week to change our delivery format to online. I do not believe any of my students have a ceramics studio at home. Some might not have taken clay home. (I did ask them too!) My goal here is to deliver instruction to complete our course goals the best we can do under the current circumstances. Maybe I'll get to editing when I see how this goes. If you want to see more videos, please let me know and follow my page. I have been teaching at the college and university level for 25 years, but never like this! But I'm game! Join me!
Ceramics II Demonstration: Throwing larger pottery forms in sections.
This class demonstration covers throwing two sections of a pot on the potter's wheel and attaching them together to make one large pot. The technique enables ceramics students the ability to make larger work without having to center large amounts of clay. It was filmed by a student in my class using my iPhone, during a class demonstration. It is intended for students who may have missed my class because of quarantine, etc. The video is unaltered and unedited. I hope it is helpful to students learning ceramics and becoming accomplished potters. We continue wearing masks as we near the one year mark for Covid-19, and we continue to teach and learn face to face at Virginia Wesleyan University during the 2020/2021 academic year.
