AI Art generators are not free of bias- no AI is free of bias. That being so their outputs will contain patterns and consistancies irrespective of style or content. The joke being however that these patterns and consistancies will only become apparent when a large enough sample size becomes available. So the creative industries will embrace AI and too late realise that their Art machines have funneled them all down a single aesthetic path, and over time everthing created with them will start to look similar to everything else created with them. The mistake lies in thinking that AI's are merely tools that reflect their users intent- that is not the case. Surely Artists, of all people, should understand that words can never really explain or precisely define images- so why would anyone take seriously the proposition that the one who types the words is really in control of the images being created? No- the heavy lifitng here is done by the AI itself- it is the AI that is making the real creative decisions - and those decisions will inevitably be conditioned by the limitations and bias inherent in the way those AI's were programmed and trained. AI's will not magnify or enhance creativity- on the contrary they will impose upon the creative industries their own inherent limitations and biases- and we will will end up living in a world where in every creative field there will exist a subtle but pervasive homogeneity. How could it be otherwise if everyone is using the same tool, prompted with the same narrow lexicon of domain specific keywords in order to deliver an output that must- by definition- conform to the needs and expectations of the market to which it is being directed?
Suppose I'm 12 years old and watch My Neighbor Totoro. In that moment I realize I want to be an artist and want to follow that style. Ten years later I'm working as an artist and my work looks like but isn't exactly Studio Ghibli. Am I a bad person? I would argue no, I'm in the style of. So how is AI different? And Avatar totally ripped off Roger Dean with not one word of credit going to Dean for any of the visuals. Seems to me the solution is art upload needs to come with a AI yes/no switch. No means AI can't skim your work.
If there was a way to opt out of the system across all the internet that would be amazing but I don’t see that happening as of now.
I think they trained a program off of other artist work and have no plans to ever compensate them for that. They make billions and never pay a single artist a cent. That path to me is a tragedy.
@@atomicchild being the optimist that I am, maybe a backlash will happen where enough consumers will demand human art. The flipside is those folks will be like record collectors. Sure a market exists but not much of one.
