    • @theoldeuropeguitars
      @theoldeuropeguitars Před měsícem

      It will require a set up by a skilled guitar tech, while a modern Epiphone mostly can be enjoyed out of the box. But, depending on which era of Epiphones we are talking, build quality is better than a modern Chinese made Epiphone (but not better than a 1990s Korean made one). Please note that woods, pickups etc. are vastly different, so if you are looking for THE SG sound, the Epiphone will suit your needs better as it is closer to the original.

  • @goodun2974
    @goodun2974 Před měsícem

    I am curious whether you've ever wax potted Teisco type pickups to minimize microphonics and feedback, and if the tone changed at all. With 4 pickups on this guitar I imagine it functions pretty well as a microphone 😉, and probably makes a good radio antenna for hum and buzz due to the complete lack of shielding.

    • @theoldeuropeguitars

      I leave such mods to the future owners. I try to restore all guitars and keep them as original as they are.

    • @goodun2974
      @goodun2974 Před měsícem

      @@theoldeuropeguitars, I have shielded a number of guitars and consider it mandatory for anything with single coils (it's really nice to have a Telecaster, or similar guitar, that doesn't hum and buzz like a swarm of bees are inside of it), but I have never tried wax potting pickups.

    So I got that Telecaster in ... weird guitar but very cool, you were right this needs A LOT of work and a regret but it seems very salvageable. Weirdest thing it actually IS a set neck telecaster ... I hope that neck angle is right or I'm in for an even worse job than I thought ... not looking forwards to a neck reset but I want to save this thing so I'll do everything I can. Dropped a short on my channel showing it if you'd like to see it.

    • @theoldeuropeguitars
      @theoldeuropeguitars Před měsícem

      Hey, I watched the short - very interesting. But that neck/body junction looks like someone meddled with it. It looks like it was originally a bolt-on, but somebody glued it in, closed the holes and refinished the guitar. I'd be very surprised if this was original like that. Klira did make set neck LPs with a proper neck/body junction, so why would they do this like a glued in bolt-on construct? Keep me posted!

    • @FraJa1980
      @FraJa1980 Před měsícem

      @@theoldeuropeguitars oh yeah somebody definetly fiddled with this thing, I thought it looked a little weird. I cant really find evidence that is had been refinished but I agree the neckjoint looks a little weird for a glued neck. Hope that if that’s the case they used Posts so it can take tention or did it in a way that’s reversibele. I’ll find out when I open it up but I promised myself i’d finish the Eko 100/1 first, rewired it and worked fine when I tested it but must have messed up the tone cap up reinstalling everything back in trough the f hole because now I have 2 volumes instead of a volume and tone… I need a bridge first for the Klira anyway so there’s no hurry. Very nice! The guitar but the playing as well! These were made by the Roxy (Musima, Migma, Marma, Tromsa, Kings etc) company in the DDR right? Did you have to restore it? I'm currently negotiating a Klira Telecaster model with the same P90's as your guitar has. Set neck from what I could see in the pictures so that's interesting. It's a mess tho, missing the bridge, dirty, scratched everywhere, flat frets and I think either the pick guard or the control plate isn't original because the pick guard is square and the plate is round (and about an inch and a half short). But it looks like a fun project tho, if I can find that bridge I'll have that thing up and running in no time.

    • @theoldeuropeguitars
      @theoldeuropeguitars Před měsícem

      Hi - no, these have nothing to do with East German companies like Musima, Migma etc. Klira was a West Germany manufacturer. TBH I have never seen a Klira Tele with a set neck - very likely it has a bolt-on like most other Klira 1970s models except for the LP copies. All Kliras will likely have to undergo extensive restoration as they are barely playable as "attic finds".

    • @FraJa1980
      @FraJa1980 Před měsícem

      @@theoldeuropeguitars ah ok. I didn’t know that, thought they were DDR. I’ll send you the marketplace link, it’s Dutch but you’ll be able to see the pictures. It has no neckplate and no holes (Maybe they used a clock lock like my Hofner 490 has but it doesn’t have the normal 4 screw neck plate) it’s pretty weird but I want it … I’m no stranger to restoring and fixing up guitars. I’m currently working on a 64 Eko model 100 m1 Mascot that had wobly frets, non working electrnics and action that would make a long bow jealous so if I can fix that thing this tele won’t be a problem i think.

      It really depends on what you are used to and how experienced you are, and being able to control your playing well, and choose what to play and what better not to play. I would not try to do any modern style shredding techniques (not that I am master of those anyway), but play to what the guitar can do well. If you are used to a super comfortable modern neck and fretboard, you will be shocked first. It requires a certain aficionado-attitude.
