Great video, Chris! The first of its kind that I've seen. I love diecast models and have collected a number of the Bond vehicles. Of these two, I'd have to go with the Hot Wheels model. To me, its proportions look more faithful to the original. Also, the color looks more like the actual car and shows up the contrasting detail far better than the darker Johnny Lightning model. I thought the car's appearance in NTTD was odd. As with the DB5 in Skyfall, I was confused as to why a government employee would be able to assume ownership of a government-issued piece of equipment. Besides, wasn't Bond supposed to have won his DB5 from Mr. Demetrious? Hairsplitting, I know, but the Craig era went in for universe-building, so why didn't THAT conform? Oh, and I just remembered that the Vantage in TLD was destroyed. Had Craig done one more film, would we have seen him pull a tarp off Wet Nellie? Again, I love the video. You and mini-Daniel did a great job comparing the various attributes of the two models. Hats off to you for showing any restraint with respect to unwrapping them. My MO is to rip apart and destroy the packaging, fiddle with the models until pieces break off and the paint is chipped, and lose any projectiles behind the sofa. (Awkward pause) But that's just me.

On amazon uk the hardback now updated to show the covers to the books and it says octopussy and living daylights on the cover.

OK, I cant help myself! I studied the cars in "From Russia with Love" and confirmed why they look so old for the time. All but 2 of them are pre-1960s vintage. Kerim's white Ford station wagon is, indeed, an early '60s model. But, all the taxi cabs and the Chevy that Grant has at the airport are all '50s vintage. The Rolls Royce and the Citroen that follows Bond look to be from the '40s. Bond's own Bentley looks even older (like the 1930s). Krilenco's assault truck looks to be a WWII era German army truck, and Bond's yellow escape vehicle is actually 2 different pickup trucks. In the helicopter attack scene it's an early '60s Chevy - but in the railroad track scenes it's a very different looking '50s era Dodge. One of these scenes was filmed in Scotland and the other in Turkey. The story is that they couldn't find the same make and model of truck in the two different countries. This is not the only time this has happened in the early Bond series. In "Goldfinger", the US Army trucks shot on location in America were a mix of mocked up Fords and Chevys. On the Fort Knox set at Shepperton Studios in England, however, they are mocked up International Harvesters. The reason was the same: They couldn't find the same make and model in the two different countries. Also, the hearse in "Dr. No" is normally a La Salle Funeral Coach. In the scene where it crashes over the cliff, however, it is a very similar looking Humber Super Snipe. Probably, that's because the Humber (with all of its internal machinery stripped out) was cheaper and more expendable.

Diamonds is beautiful. Such a shame about Moonraker, which is my favourite novel. It has the world, but Moonraker is all about the UK only. Bit of a miss on that one

Though it's one of my favorites, I agree with your daughter about it not looking much like the '60s. I have always thought that, even though it's a year newer than "Dr. No", it looks older. Maybe that's because gloomy Istanbul and Yugoslavia (not to mention Venice) are just more old-fashioned looking places than sunny Jamaica. The cars, the buildings, the motorboats...everything looks more like the '50s or even the '40s in those countries. And a Gypsy camp would have looked like that 100 years ago! Another reason could be that the ultra-modernist, Ken Adam, didn't design the sets on this one, because he was working for Kubrick on Dr. Strangelove at the time. His stuff was always quintessentially '60s

You might be right. These are British movies and there just might not have been that many Chinese actors in Britain at that time. Even as late as "You Only Live Twice", one of Tanaka's bathhouse girls was just a black haired white girl that looked slightly Asian. Mei Lei, the Chinese stewardess in "Goldfinger" also played one of the Japanese bathhouse girls in "You Only Live Twice" Burt Kwouk (who actually is of Chinese descent), plays a Chinese guy in "Goldfinger" and a Japanese guy in "You Only Live Twice". So maybe they just went with any actor they could get, who looked close enough. Incidentally, Marguerite Le Wars (the photographer girl in Dr. No) was supposed to be Afro-Asian (and was made up to look so), but actually has no Asian blood. In the book, she was something Ian Flemming called a "chigro"- which is apparently Jamaican slang for half Chinese/half black people that are somewhat common in Kingston. Of course you would know that she was also Miss Jamaica, and her brother played the chauffer, Mr. Jones!

I love them! They really are like 1960's pop art. The only thing is that in Doctor No it wasn't a spider but a centipede that was released to kill Bond.

Very cool artwork, but I will wait until we find out whether these are edited versions. My guess is that they are, since I.F.F. is careful not to say one way or the other. If so, I can't in good conscious support any effort that seeks to compromise the original intent of the author.

I think Miss Taro was supposed to be Eurasian. I know Dr. No, himself, was Eurasian (German Father and Chinese Mother), so him being a white guy in Chinese makeup makes a bit of sense.
