It's like this. I mess around with remixing 60's mono songs into stereo, add occasional home videos: some with music, some with my dulcet tones, some with both and some with neither. At least I have a little try. I also have a show called "The 60's Mix Up" on BCR1 (Basingstoke Community Radio, basingstokecommunityradio.org.uk/). All this and less between work, other interests, and the wife. Videos uploaded in no particular order. E&OE. Terms and conditions apply - but they're CZcams's and Google's - not mine. VIDEO - From bulky, Sanyo 8mm, edited shot-by-shot onto a Panasonic mono VHS, the endless upgrading cycle began. Sony Hi8 onto Panasonic S-VHS, swanky DV, all them tapes, but then what is money? What's next. HD is passe and 4K is waiting in the wings. Don't mention 8K. Just don't. But life can still be fun. And who knows - after I'm gone, CZcams can have years of fun trying to crack my account and eradicate all this rubbish. Best of luck chaps.
Shadows - 3 of 3 - French Dressing (1964, DES Stereo Remix, 2024)
This is the last of a trio of tracks I felt needed addressing, all featuring on the Shadows' third studio LP issued in 1964. While the first, "Dakota", was a stereo track needing a revamp, "Blue Shadows" and this final one, "French Dressing", only ever (to my knowledge) ever appeared in mono - on a stereo LP!
=========================================
French Dressing (Brian Bennett)
=========================================
From the same LP that delivered a defiantly monophonic stereo mix of "Blue Shadows" (see that DES remix for more) comes another one of the same, in the shape of Brian Bennett's nippy little tune, "French Dressing". There's no dressing up the fact that this is another track on a stereo LP that no-one seems to have noticed is monophonic. Back in the 60's, who cared if that record you're dancing to or as relaxing background playing on their Dansette's was mono or stereo? Look up "Dance With The Shadows album" on CZcams and do a mono-versus-stereo comparison to see what I mean. The 'stereo' version does omit that crisp reverb that brightens up the mono "Blue Shadows", making it even plainer than I thought.
So, a strip-out and re-mix and hey presto! A fresh-sounding and wide-open stereo mix is the result. You'd think though that EMI would make something of having a go themselves. After this LP things became tidier in EMI's stereo mixing department, as stereo became more important, save some 1965 left-right experimentation ("Rubber Soul" anyone?). So, why not sit a geek down in the broom cupboard, give them a decent laptop, and let them plug those mono-only gaps, giving decent 21st century stereo mixes we otherwise would never have. Yeah, go on, I'll have a go!

This is the second in a threesome of magical instrumentals from the Shadows, which appeared on the Shadows' third studio LP issued in 1964. "Dakota" was first, a basic 'stereo' mix needing revamping. This one, "Blue Shadows", was one of two that appeared in flat mono - on a stereo LP! (The final one to be tackled is being "French Dressing".) Blue Shadows (Marvin, Welch, Bennett, Locking) Having...

This is the first of three tunes I have intervened on, all coming from the Shadows' third studio LP issued in 1964. The first is a stereo track needing a revamp, while the other pair appeared only in mono - on a stereo LP! Dakota (Written by Alan Braden) It's almost guaranteed that you won't have heard of Alan Braden. He contributed his original composition "Dakota" for the Shadows' to record. ...
David Bowie With The Lower Third - Can't Help Thinking About Me (1966, DES Stereo Remix 2024)

DAVID BOWIE David Jones was always going to be a big star, though it took a few false starts and much wandering through the musical tapestry of the 60's to find his rightful niche. An approach to a would-be manager was referred and he was taken on y Dick James’s partner, Leslie Conn, who managed the singer through his initial stages. First was leaving his group the Konrads to join the King Bees...

I investigated doing that to the admittedly reasonably powerful stereo mix, however that cheat didn't result in a clean enough split - far from it in fact. Ditching that ridiculous idea, I reverted to my original aim and spli...

They delivered a nice play on words and a nice single, featuring two decent-sounding instrumentals. "Cleopatra's Needle" written by Larry Michael (nope I have no idea either) was presumably inspired by London's obelisk of the same name. The tune jaunts along nicely, played on the b...

The Seekers' "Someday, One Day" came after their first three big smash hit records under a new deal with Columbia (EMI) records. Tom Springfield's "I'll Never Find Another You" caught an unsuspecting public's imagination, who propelled this affable Australian folk quartet to pop's UK number 1. Up next was a number 3, "the lively "A World Of Our Own". If that confirmed their status as a pop act,...

John Leyton is a familiar name to those who recall his monster number 1 smash from 1961, "Johnny Remember Me". Leyton was a jobbing actor, whose roles were not exactly regular. His manager Robert Stigwood believed Leyton's good looks could help him sell records. "But I can't sing!" Well, it was worth a punt and a couple of discs were issued on the little Top Rank label. However, the label was s...

It was Mick Jagger and Keef Richards who wrote "Take It Or Leave It" in 1966. I feel the shads lost something,I don’t mean in there playing just there choice of the songs they were releasing? around 1964/5 it didn’t have foot tapping thing
Is it me or do I hear a touch of Duane Eddy it’s probably me
Excellent work
Thank you for that! Cheers! :)
Other great work . Greetings from Chile
Thank you very much!
I have to say this is not in the same class as there early hits and a bit dated ,in 64 we had groups like the stones ,Beatles and Motown etc
The Shads weren't cutting edge by this time, though they did a few numbers that doffed their caps to the current sound. "The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt" is a particular favourite and that put them back into the Top Ten. "Blue Shadows" provides a nice contrast to other tracks on the LP which overall tries to deliver something for all their fans. I think this one is more about feel and atmosphere, though at the cost of a melody.
Jet don't played in this song
Lol Maybe not, but John Paul Jones and Tony Meehan doesn't have quite the same ring!
@@adiebarrett Many Thanks
Excellent work. Oher song bad mixed in Stereo was BLUE SHADOWS. Would be excellent have a version Stereo better. Greetings from Chile
Thanks! Keep looking out for I've been working on a related follow-up which just might deliver something close to that... Can't say to much but probably already have...

Encore une pépite de la fabuleuse et magique année 67 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
How does one do it ?
A fantastic group who disbanded far too soon . Great song and video . Cheers Adie,
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for your support! :)
Terrific band, although I remember "Hello Suzie" more than this one,it's still a great song and still sounds as good as it did when first released thanks for the info and photos Auckland New Zealand 2024
"Hello Suzie" is an interesting one, Amen Corner's is a faster and more poppy take of the Move's original, which is quite heavy and dark. How come I've not heard that one before. There's a few Move singles in mono only, now there's a thought...
Great new sounding mix, subbed!
Yes! Roger the Engineer! Anything from that Yardbirds LP is worth multiple listens! p.s. Did Jeff Beck earn that Iron Cross?
What a wonderful song...
The Seekers were very popular here in NZ(as a young boy was taken to see their movie) and my parents were big fans regularly playing their 45s(including this 💎)was later given their LP Come the Day which had another Paul Simon/Bruce Woodley comp Red Rubber Ball which is one of my favorite Seekers songs thanks for the work done on the remix much appreciated Auckland New Zealand 2024
A voice like no other
One word for this music! FANTASTIC, no sorry, two words more, MASTER CLASS!
Thank you so much for listening and your kind comments! :)
Always the best
Cliff and the Shads rocked - and very talented, especially the shad's songwriting skills which is underrated.
magnifique 😊
this record would have charted at the time maybe about 15 position but there was too much going on with other female singers at the time and not much room for air play at the time this would have been in the class as dusty lulu petula etc mmmmmmmmmmm pity i think joe was using glenda as a demo level and session singer perhaps she had the wrong management also who knows otherwise eh! ????????????
Never heard of this one,but what a 💎,Elkie really belts it out and never lets up! Hats off to all concerned👍Thanks for the work done Auckland New Zealand 2024
Great band we were so lucky to have all this amazing music in the sixties
Great record takes me back to those happy days I thought would last forever how wrong can one be
Don’t remember this record, not one of my favourite songs
Great song like most songs fro 60 70 s
Just, AWFUL 😢😢😢
If we bring the music from the time back, can we bring the times back? Close your eyes, turn up the music and let yourself go..
Once Again a superb remix and great information to accompany it. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it - thank you for listening :)
Yes I brought this record back in the day ,but my first record was I only want to be with you by Dusty Springfield had a secret crush on her I was just a school boy
Glorious wonderful classic 60s song and Dammm Steve can sing ...amazing vocals I love this song .....
Good song, nice work on the mix,but I much prefer "Have you ever loved somebody" and "Western Union",two songs which should have much better than they did(Western Union was a sizable hit on our charts here but largely a miss other countries) and remember them both thanks for the work Auckland New Zealand 2024
Thanks for that! Their "Have You Ever Loved Somebody" is an awesome slice of pop. It's on my list but will have to keep that one in reserve for now because I've mislaid my CD for the moment...
Choon
So mono is better? Sounds like it. I still don't get the point of stereo.
The Doors never done it for me ?
They can be an acquired taste I admit, but then "Light My Fire" was a slow burner with me until one day I re-listened and this time round it just clicked.
What a classy lady and what a voice
The best of the best RIP Billy
Not for '63
Great song here ...advice....do not go downtown in 2024 ..i could rewrite a modern day version , but u tube will delate and ban me !!!!!! Again
I wasn't crazy about this song in 1964 as I was just getting into FM/Underground music. But this mix brings out the brilliance of the vocals and instrumentation. You've given me a whole new appreciation for this one.
Great song from a great band

Mono single always sound better, clear, loud and punchier. My internet speaker is single only, so a good match.
she recorded that also in German and it was a hit
Reminds me of Britain when it was really British !
Lovely lady, great talent ❤❤❤
Brilliant Song
This song will always remind me of my first love when I was fifteen years old
A female artist that is new to me , but due to your information i have checked out her back catalogue ,and she was really good., Thanks
Thanks - and glad you are enjoying the journey of discovering stuff like me! I am aiming to have one ready by Elkie Brooks soon, "He's Gotta Love Me" - it's one of those that grabbed my attention, and how the heck it wasn't a hit! Cheers
After that many years I still love this song. I am 76 years now and closing my eyes I am back in time. Gracious me, such a fantastic time !❤❤❤❤❤
I always thought that " THE VOICE " came from an adult. Such a full developed voice. I sent this song my sister . She is slightly younger and we went back memory lane. ❤❤❤❤❤
