EVBIKE 2.0 Weight Test
zhlédnutí 10Před 10 měsíci
When this bike was still gas powered it weighed around 250 lbs. dry. As an EV conversion it will weigh about the same or a little less depending on the battery. Right now It only weighs 217.0 with my little battery and the bigger one will be around 40 lbs. so 40 - 23 = 17 lbs. which is the difference between the big battery and the little one estimated. UPS shows 52 lbs. but that includes a 12A...

How are you recording this?
It's the magic of an Insta360° camera. The software automatically removes the selfie stick attached to the back of the bike. 🙂
That is really cool, how fast ya going if you can post?
I had a strong head wind, so only hit 77 MPH. This was just a test to see what it could do. Going that fast for several miles would deplete the battery quickly. My battery meter was showing over 200 amps, then "FFF" when the meter hit the limit. I will do a range test soon at a slower speed.
こんにちは。とてもかわいくて素敵ですね😍
neat trick for getting wires into split loom, never thought of that
I saw it in a video several years ago and finally have a use for that trick. 🙂
Does the chain make that noise, or is it just the motor?
It's mostly the motor, but the chain noise is there too. Once I build a bigger battery I will be able to get on the throttle more, then the motor will be a lot louder. If I get on it too much with my little battery, the BMS limits the current and kills the battery which is why I am using an 80 volt Kobalt battery to reset the BMS as seen at the end of the video. 🤪
Not the best car to use towing. Get a pickup truck, SUV. That boat is pretty small could be done but at the cost of extra wear on suspension, ujoints, transmission etc. Its unibody not a framed car too
This was just a test to make sure I could move my boat before selling my 2015 Chevy Silverado Z71 4X4 in case I needed to move the boat around the backyard. I sold the truck in April for about what I paid for it and recently bought a 1999 GMC Sierra Z71 4X4 to use for boat towing.
@@HappySillyFace I have a buddy that is getting a boat and used your video to prove to me he can pulling hundreds of miles with it. I have a boat too and a volt and 4x4 I tried to tell him they are not meant for towing boats. He cited your page. He needs something a bit stouter.
@@Physics072 it is more than capable of towing because of liquid cooling and the torque, just don’t exceed 1500lbs.
What was your range like on electric?
@@chrischung2365 Over 50 percent.
Have you done any long distance towing with the volt and this trailer setup? I am looking to tow a similar setup with my volt and was wondering how it handles the weight.
The heaviest thing I hauled was a 400 lb. riding mower on this same trailer but only did 20 miles but it handled just fine. I have heard both good and bad experiences when towing with a Volt. I always make sure the tongue weight is under 200 lbs. and the total weight of the trailer plus the load is under 1000 lbs. I have a truck now I use to tow my 2500 lb. boat and use the Volt for everything else. The most weight I put in the hatch area was ten 80lb. bags of concrete and didn't even notice the weight. The suspension did just fine with the extra 800 lbs. 🙂
@@HappySillyFacehow far can it go on electric only towing a mower?
Did you upgrade the battery or something??
Please read the description . Thanks!
I need the old gate video with the mule
Here it is. CZcams changed all unlisted videos to private, but it's active now. czcams.com/video/G22DPsD1-Mo/video.html
what kind of ubolts did u use
@@markstalesky7913 The farm gate is probably 2" in diameter where you see the U-bolts and I went with longer ones and cut them off after mounting everything. This was built 10 years ago and I no longer have anything left.
My scooter is new and marking high when its really going slow
How do you know its 40mph ?
It's hard to see but I have a GPS.
Did you have to get ur speed modified? Cuz that is exactly what I'm looking for..
No, this is an electric moped designed to go 40 MPH and requires a motorcycle license, registration, and insurance. A lot of viewers think this is a modified scooter but all I did was replace the batteries and controller with the correct parts. I have since used these components to convert a motorcycle to electric. Feel free to ask me anything. czcams.com/video/CRIvaAiBGh8/video.html
What size pipe did you use for this setup?
The top and bottom horizontal pipes are 21 feet long by 2.25 inches. The vertical pipes are 2.00 inches and the diagonal pipes are 1.75 inches. The main two vertical pipes that the rollers are attached to are 4 inches in diameter and filled with concrete and are set in 3 feet of concrete. I overengineered this just a bit and can stand on the far end of the gate when it is closed and it does not sag one bit. 😊
@@HappySillyFace What gauge pipes did you use? I am having a shard time finding pipes to build mine :(. All i can find is 2 3/8" OD schedule 40 but man if i build it all from this it will be heavy
@@LuisC202 I will have to check my receipt. I do know I bought galvanized round pipes and the total weight for the gate without the wood is around 200 lbs. Not bad for a 21 foot gate with a 14 foot opening. I used an engine hoist to hold it up while I mounted the gate to the rollers.
@@HappySillyFace Man that is a good idea. Yes please find out what gauge your pipes are besides the 2x21' foot ones. :).
@@LuisC202 Will do.
Hello and good morning, Did you weld the cantilever portion of the gate or did you find a prefab kit that you just slide the tubing into? What sort of tubing did you use?
I purchased all of the metal tubing from American Fence ( www.afence.com ) then welded it myself. They wanted over $800 if they built it so I bought a welder and "taught" myself how to weld. It was a lot of trial and even more error but I am happy with the results. You should be able to search your area for a metal supply company. The parts used are listed in the description. Feel free to ask me anything else.
I used to always think "Why are these accidents SO OFTEN fatal? I'd just stop!" I get it it now. correct lane usage for two lane road is just luck. We recently lost a Beaumont cop to a wrong way (drunk) hwy. driver in a night time accident.
WHAT THE MAKE OF THE SCOOTER? CAN IT BE BOUGHT FROM CANADA ONTARIO.
I don't know if any of these were shipped to Canada but maybe check the used market. MSRP in 2007 was $1999 plus shipping but I found both scooters on Craigslist in Austin, TX in October 2012. The Z20A cost $350 but had dead batteries and the brakes were locked up but the controller was almost new and the Z20B that I am riding in this video was only $100 but it also had dead batteries and a fried controller but it was barely used and only had 12km on the odometer. I used the Z20A for parts and still have a good 2500 watt hub motor I recently built an electric motorcycle with shown here: czcams.com/video/lue_uMu-PE0/video.html
Better and better.(and looking a LOT nicer) Are you thinking of a project name?
Getting faster .. cool
Going to be cool.
Very Fast
35 MPH is not fast enough. I will do another test run with a GPS speed measurement to rule out the analog speedometer on the bike.
It's beautiful.....haha. kidding. You got that going a lot faster than I thought it would take. Using the time wisely, good on ya.
Very Cool!
Where did the metal gate portion come from?
Sorry for not listing that yet. I purchased all of the metal tubing from American Fence ( www.afence.com ) then welded it myself. They wanted over $800 if they built it so I bought a welder and "taught" myself how to weld. It was a lot of trial and even more error but I am happy with the results. @10:47 I don't why it was so funny to me, that you just dropped your mail on your feet space, then just stepped on them, to keep them there. I wasn't expecting you to ride to a mailbox, and I wasn't expecting you to not have a bag. This video is pleasant.
Glad you liked it. If I have a lot of mail, I can open the seat and store it there but no need since the trip home from the mailbox is maybe half a mile and I have not lost any mail yet. I do have to be careful at the stop sign where the white car was because most people blow right through it and I have had to hit the brakes on multiple occasions to avoid them. I have another video not published yet from my dashcam in my car showing someone blowing right through it and giving me a confused look as I blast my horn at them as if they don't even know there is a stop sign there.
@@HappySillyFace The white car @11:24 ? Yeah, it looks like you have the right of way. Is that stop sign faded? And I never thought about going so far, to get mail. I currently live in suburbs. But if I want an off-grid solar battery house, then maybe I should have a P.O. Box like you. I'm reading wikipedia about them now. How much does that rural box cost? And what about you getting packages too big for that box?
@@observingrogue7652 There is no charge for the community cluster of mailboxes and is only half a mile from my house and is on the way home from work. Any packages that don't fit can be placed in a larger locker and a key placed in my mailbox and if the package is too big for that, they will deliver it to my house. The stop signs are not faded at all and there are a lot of careless drivers that blow right through them all the time. I also see numerous non-licensed children on 4-wheelers riding up and down the road illegally with no regard for the law. I had an offroad motorcycle when I was young but NEVER rode it on the street and found several trails to ride on where it was legal. Because of the reckless driving, I have called the Sheriff a few times after a close call and it was fun to watch him wait and hide and pull over at least 10 cars in just a matter of minutes. I feel bad for having to do that but it is the law or else the stop signs wouldn't be there. FYI: This video is almost 5 years old so feel free to check out my newer videos showing my Electric Motorcycle project I just started working on. The electric scooter has been a great learning tool but is not practical for my commute since changing jobs so my goal is to convert the motorcycle to be able to do at least 60MPH with a 50 mile range which will require lithium batteries. I drive a 2014 Chevy Volt now but it would be nice to have an EV bike as an option and charging at work is FREE. :-)
Good job! Am planning to build one like this with 16 ft opening. Would appreciate your sharing precious experience as to: What motor to use, is it belt driven? How far apart should the two rollers positioned? Where to buy the motor n roller?
I have a newer video with more info here: czcams.com/video/w5dNtpKdSpw/video.html
Super quiet. Nice job DaBL I don't think I've ever seen a full floater that long.
What controller and batteries are you using?? :)
I am using a Kelly controller model KEB72600AJ with five UB12350 12 volt SLA batteries for a 60-volt system. As of 12/7/19, the scooter still works but the batteries are getting weak. I have tried two different lithium packs from Amazon but the seller keeps sending the wrong pack. The first one was over 84 volts so the controller refused to use it and the second pack was broken right out of the box and they forgot to send the charger. Both packs were around $1000 each but Amazon worked with me to get a refund. I am still searching for a better battery and will probably just build my own pack once I learn more about how to do that and working with the BMS and a charger that I will be able to use with the standard SAE J1772 240 volt L2 charging standard that my 2014 Chevy Volt uses. From what I have learned with this scooter I am ready to convert a dual-sport motorcycle to electric and just need to find a donor bike, battery pack, motor, and controller. I test rode a couple of Zero motorcycles which ran great but cost way too much and require a special 120 volt charger that takes 9 hours to go 50 miles or so and for more money you can add more chargers to charge in less time but for the over $10K price for just the bike, that should be included and/or it should come with the SAE J1772 standard.
@@HappySillyFace thanks for the Quick answer! Im going to get a stock 3wheeler Soon, but i just want it to go 20mph 🤷♂️

Top speed on my Boom scooter is 45 mph
Well I have a boom scooter as well and it was going 35 miles an hour at least when I bought it now I took it to work one day came out of work and it was down to 20 miles an hour I went and bought for brand new batteries for almost $300 I've done everything I know to do to it to make it go back up there but get to the controls I just don't have the tools to get to the controls to see if that's what happened like maybe the people that owned it before me. It to go almost 40 miles an hour and it only supposed to go 20 because it does have the pedals and what not but I don't know what to do to make it go back up to 35 miles an hour I really wanted to I needed to I have not driven it in a year now I invested all this money into it and I probably wrote it for a good month or two before it went down to 20 miles an hour any ideas please help
cool!
Do you still ride this? I have a similar one with 1500w motor, but I put a large sine wave smart phone programmable controller with regen braking and battery from a electric car. and run it at 60v 5500w. I put a thermometer with alarm in the wires that come out of the motor that beeps at 120 degrees F. Then i slow down. Mine only goes 45mph but with higher voltage it will go faster. To go over 60mph you need 96v or more i think. A large battery with not alot of amp hours which means you wont be able to accelerate as hard, but you will get that high speed.
Yes, but only for short trips since buying a 2014 Chevy Volt two years ago and I quit that job last year and now work for Dell and have a longer commute. Bonus: I charge the car at Dell for FREE. :-D
Happy SillyFace - my friend has one for of those. Its a shame they use a separate battery for lights and everything. If they had dc - dc converters like the mopeds you could plug a powerful 12v > 120v dc > ac inverter and power your house with that free work power.
@@EVO1087R There are Volt owners who have done that with an inverter especially with the recent hurricanes on the east coast of the U.S. The main 360 volt traction battery charges the 12 volt battery and will turn on the generator and use gas when needed if the car is left on but you have to leave it in N(neutral) with the Parking brake on or else the car will shut off after 2 hours. A 3000 watt inverter is ideal to handle the surge of a refrigerator but it's best to keep the constant load on the 12 volt battery at 1500 watts or less. I have not done this mod yet but plan to in the future. :-D
As I would like to use my electric motorbike I unfortunately had to sell it. Here in the state of New York those electric scooters are prohibited and can not be used because the DMV can not register the truth that those laws are stupid but it is the reality here in this state. .
I was able to register mine in Texas, no problem. Are ALL scooters prohibited in New York or just electric ones?
@@HappySillyFace i see gas ones there so i think just electric
@@klicks271 Are the banned electric ones too slow or not street legal? Mine is legal and has a title, requires a yearly state inspection, requires insurance, and the rider needs a motorcycle license.

@@joelclark6224 where do you live and how much do you want for your 50 MPH scooter? So I can figure shipping costs if not local to Chester PA 19013
My brother has what looks like uncannily like the bike tested out here, and I have ridden and it's speed it limited to 50kph (30mph) for UK laws, however it will of course go faster than that downhill. Range the always asked 'problem' is dependent on weight of rider, terrain, and mode of use, but realistically 25-30 miles, So Perfect for someone commuting less than that each day and re-charge overnight on a normal electric socket. My brother weighs in at 18 stone (252 lbs) and managed easily a round trip of 20.6 miles. Looked like you picked around 3pm local time (School Run) not a good idea ! and rather strange how you rode in the middle of road, not even the middle but near the centre (yes that's how we spell it in the UK) The main thing you should be aware of is like riding a bike, is that there is NO engine braking, and when coming up to a STOP you have to use all brakes. Good video, well done.
