Simple Pedals for PC software (PTT for HAMradio, SDR console, FlexRadio)
I use the SDRconsole software for my QO-100 station and SmartSDR for my Flex radio. Both have in common that they run on a PC. I like such programs because they work with a mouse. With one exception: I want a PTT, preferably a foot switch, to keep my hands free.
I had to search and experiment till I found out how it works. I want to save you this time and share my learnings. No worries: It will be a short video.

Structured Guide to Find Noise Sources (QRM) including Power Supplies, PLCs, and Optimizers
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 10 měsíci
Radio Frequency interferences, also known as QRM, have become a significant issue in modern times. Today, I will present a structured approach to tackle this problem and include interferences of Power Line Communication Devices (PLC) and solar optimizers. This video will provide valuable insights and benefits for individuals residing in regions where modern technology is prevalent. It will also...
New: Comfortable and robust VOIP without PBX in AREDN networks
zhlédnutí 10KPřed rokem
When it comes to emergency communications, it must be solid, reliable, and scalable. In HAM radio, we often use AREDN networks for that purpose. Because they run on 2.4 or 5.8GHz, their performance is high and allows to build mesh networks for flexibility and reliability. Today, we will add the next level: Redundant Voice over IP. Be with me when one of my dreams comes true! Links: Documentatio...
Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN) Basics/Tutorial
zhlédnutí 32KPřed rokem
AREDN is cool! It is a fast, IP-based wireless mesh network using cheap commercial components. Because it is self-organized, it is easy to use. Its initial purpose was for emergency communication, but it is also a lot of fun without an emergency. Today, we will build our first network and connect it to the “SwissDigitalNet.” Beginners can learn what it needs, and experienced users see how we so...

    You can get sharper nulls and closer spacing using longer stubs so a particular shorted stub will appear as a short at 1/2 wavelengths (of the offending signal) but as an open at 1/4, 3/4, and so on, of the desired signal. A length will exist that achieves this although the closer these two frequencies are, the longer the stub needs to be and you start to lose efficiency. Also, the stub is going to have multiple frequencies where it is open or shorted.

    I know this is 2 years old but something I didn’t see mentioned. If you add a second 1/4 wave stub spaced 1/4 wave from the first you will get a deeper and sharper notch. I don’t know how far you can take that, might get unwieldy after a few. You can make it tuneable also by adding a variable capacitor across the far end.

    Try Halow combined 802.11ah for long distance and 802.11s for additional distance using mesh. Halow on lower frequencies and higher output power with mimo would be even beter like 64mbps oker 7kms. Give it an HT formfactor with two mimo antenas and internal normal wifi and ethernet port for your small devices to connect to then you could have your tacticool civilian manet. Use zello or briar over large areas with no cellular coverage

      Weaker, but very low tech. Any form of radio, including cheap walkie talkies and a smartphone is all you need. Or any computer really. You can hack together a dedicated cable using a 4 pole audio jack from a cheapo earphone and a baofeng earpiece. That way the audio gets piped directly and doesn't suffer from background noise

    Why hasn't anyone made a dual mode APRS (AX25 and LoRA) digipeater on 2 metres? In the UK the 70cm frequency is right in the middle of the licence-free ISM band, and most people who are raving about LoRA/Meshtastic are using the non Amateur allocation around 800 MHz, to be honest, Meshtastic is just a craze, as soon as people realise that it is only SMS they will rapidly get bored with it, it is reinventing the wheel a bit because you can doing everything already using standard APRS. So why not a dual-band AX25 and LoRA digipeater iGate on 144MHz?

    • @HB9BLA
      @HB9BLA Před 4 měsíci

      I would just place two different igates at the same place. Then, you can use available technology. 868MHz is used because LoRaWAN is also on this frequency in Europe, BTW.

    One comment on this. SmartSDR for FlexRadio, which is included with every FLEX-6000 radio is plug and play and a VPN is not required at all to operate remotely. It even provides a secure connection to your radio and you do not require any network skills. Zero Tier is a great solution for accessing all the other devices on your network.

    • @HB9BLA
      @HB9BLA Před 4 měsíci

      The Meshcom project changed considerably and they use APRS now. I did not check the new one out yet. 10W is most probably not helping a lot compared with the hassle to produce it because LoRa has a very high Link Budget and therefore does not need a lot of power like FSK.
