Apart from using it as a drum during festivals to make music , it was used as a warning bell to signal impending attacks from neighboring villages or to signal calamities like earthquakes , forest fire etc.Some scholars also are of the view that this is a replica of the canoe-like boats displayed symbolically to horor their seafaring journeys from places pf migration like Myanmar, Laos ,Java and Sumatra , Borneo , Philippines and other South Asian countries in olden times ! This theory is seconded by the wide usage of cowrie shells used as ornaments in their attire.
