Just when you thought you have seen every 1970s show that was worth watching, another one pops up
He was so handsome
His Daughter Kate shares my Birthday 26th July
Leonard Rossiter and Peter Bowls in Rising Damp was sooooo funny great actors both missed
What a shame Sam wasn't invited to take part.
Shame they fail to mention his first born daughter Samantha who looks just like Richard. Rip.
Good God, the girlfriend is annoyingly poor.
Just heard where he was the subject of The BBC Radio 4/4 Extra series Great Lives and how wonderful this pops up.
Total unfunny crap to be fair
The reason he has no tea bags is blatantly apparent 🤷♂️
This is crap
Mr. McEwen from Going Straight
Boy we had some class back then ..great stars .great times .great actors ….😊
For people who don't know, Paula Wilcox who appears here and starred with Richard in The Lovers also lost her husband young to a sudden heart attack, and eerily it was also in 1979.
The audience don't need much to burst into laughter?
Surprised Richard agreed to do this it's so poor. I read he filmed these 5 episodes in November 1978, he told his co stars he'd blacked out and had dizzy spells during recording of the 1st episode. When he filmed the 5th episode he was getting pains in his arms and they were worried because he was so tired and looked 'grey'. The Porridge movie was filmed in January 1979 and he looked healthier which is odd .Thanks for the upload though, it's still great to see it👍
A difficult watch in the knowledge of what happen....You coulld see his missed talent in the 4th series of 'Damp...Sadly still missed by those of us that remember our Notts boy in the first airing of Porridge...At least we still have his work to reminisce in these days of digital...Thank you for the upload
So many WONDERFUL Brit actors here!. I was about 8 when Rising Damp first aired but i really began to Appreciate it when it was re run in 2014.SO MANY great performances by "guest tenants" but my favourites were by far, PB's Hilary and Derek Newark's spooner!. As many actors of their generation are bound to read these comments on seeing this episode can i ask any who worked with Newark...was he "difficult" to work with as i have read?. Did his drinking ever cause any problems on set or off?. Another actor of this gen is Julian Glover. They all seem to have passed through the "Avengers" door, many of them several times!.What fun they must have had.
Now I know why Kate is the way she is in a good way her mum and dad were a Beautiful couple she has her mothers sophistication and a mix off the good looks from both Kate your Dad would be so proud as is your mum well done you have blossomed beyond his or her expectations well done x
Obviously not in the same league as Richard's other work but i always remember Richard going head to head with Leonard Rossiter in Rising Damp is responsible for some of the funniest moments ever seen on tv.
He was a very handsome young man and seemed like the shy type who didn't like to talk much. Now we know where his wonderful daughter Kate got her overwhelming beauty and sense of humor from.
I thought having both Beckinsale and Swift, I'd give this the benefit but ten minutes in I gave up. Very tame and weak and pretty characterless.
Not a bad dancer too
Ronnie barker stole the show.
What happen to his daughter Samantha
1:30. Why are the audience laughing at the empty tea caddy
Just laugh along and stop questioning.

His daughter Samantha has his eyes. Kate has his nose and teeth.
I was 5 in 1977. I always have a memory that he was really handsome. Looking at him now...........far out he was GORGEOUS...........wow what a smile xo!!! What a shame he died so young and only two years after this in 1979. He didn't even get to see the 80's.
For people who asked, his elder daughter didn't appear because Richard didn't have a good relationship with her mother. He was very young when Samantha was born and they only re-connected not long before he died. She did visit him, Judy and Kate in Ascot where they lived, Judy referred to her as "Richard in a frock"😀. He called Samantha the night before he died arranging to see her. Robbie Williams wrote 'Baby Girl Window' about Richard and Samantha's relationship.
This show was terrible and copying Robins Nest intro was cheap too.
Such a shame went far too early rest in peace Richard ❤
Well his other daughter wasn’t on the show
The most moving 'This Is Your LIfe' ever for people of my generation. Imagine the effect on Judy Loe and their little princess when he died at 31. God rest his sweet soul, as the Irish say.
So sad he died young.
He's so relaxed and smiley, such a shame he's been dead since I was 1 year old some 45 years ago !
Brilliant show, sad loss to have died so young, his daughter is carrying on the acting legacy with the Beckinsale name 👍
Dreadful. I recall enjoying this when it originally aired 45 years ago but I WAS only 11. It's bizarre seeing David Swift taking on Beckinsale as an employee/partner when he took on Barker (as Fletch) the year before as a hotel porter in 'Going Straight'! This seems intentional rather than a coincidence. It's a bizarre set up from the start and deja vous occurs when Stan's girlfriend informs Swift Stan will be late just as Ingrid informs Swift Fletch will be late a year earlier! Even a prison officer from Porridge pops up as a police officer and a decorator from Going Straight is a barman. The characters are dreadful. Both Stan and his girlfriend are unfaithful and so is Dingley's wife. The script is also weak and it's just as well the series wasn't completed and it's so sad this is Beckinsale's swansong. The writing is dreadful. I cringed when Stan stumbled into a teenage girl's bedroom. She's strapped up with broken limbs and asks if he's a rapist. He replies, "Only if you insist!" I have no idea what Beckinsale was thinking. He was way better than this!
David Swift appeared in an episode of Rising Damp as well as someone who was suicidal.
So handsome, a beautiful smile, so vibrant and lively. Why was he taken so soon :(
When they use canned laughter to get a laugh out showing an empty tea caddy then you know the script is dire.
He was A brilliant actor .Loved him in To the Manor Born 🎉
So sad to think that such a lovely guy with a fantastic life ahead of him died just two years after this.
Both His Daughter's Great Actor's Samantha Beckinsale And Kate Beckinsale
Peter could of been Freddie Mercury's brother
It's a shame he never got to finish it Rip Richard Beckinsale
Always wanted him as a brother when I was a kid....definitely a cool guy
So sad he passed away so very young.
He was so poorly
superb best actor ever went to young thanks for the laughs and brill comedy always watch porridge if im feeling low !!
I still like watching him and Ronnie in Porridge and laugh to their comedy capers
Sweet and handsome. Watched 'Porridge' with mum when I was a child. I still love him. May you rest in eternal peace.❤
When he died is was a shock.Only a few miles from where I lived.
His daughter Sam is the spitting image of him ❤️
yes she is. Samantha has his eyes. Kate has his nose and same teeth.
Should have been Sir Leonard Rossiter one of this country's finest actor's straight and comedic. Richard Briers is/was a natural a remarkable talent incredibly switched on bright and intelligent in every role he played.
