Playing with the new 460 XVR.
I hadn’t really intended on uploading this video. I recorded it for a very specific person but it was too long to be sent via text or email.
I didn’t shoot any .454 or 460 loads in this clip just some “45 +P” loads I cooked up in my shop. Anywho, I hope everyone enjoys this short video. Thanks for watching.

Happy New Year, everyone! It was a great morning to head to the range. Aside from a few brave people out at the rifle range, I had the place to myself. This video really demonstrates the importance of keeping up on your skills. They’re most certainly perishable. Thanks a lot for watching.
Practice at clearing the cover garment. Shooting the P320

Made it to the range after a wicked wind storm. Just doing some practice with the P320. Clearing the cover garment and putting two on target. This is my very first time attempting this drill “live”. Still lots of practice to do. Hope you all enjoy.

I have not been out the the range for a while. A hectic work schedule and my old phone kicking the bucket has prevented me from uploading any videos for the past several weeks. This is really just a test to see if the fancy camera on this phone is as good as they claim.

A continuation of the ball and dummy drill that I was doing last week. This time, I’m putting follow up shots on the plate prior to returning to holster. This is a great drill to not only help you see any errors you have in your trigger press but it also gives you practice clearing malfunctions. Speaking of malfunctions, you will note that in the second magazine I had a failure to eject that ca...

Just had a few cartridges left after a morning at the 600 yard range. I decided to try the 1000 yard line. Considering that the rifle is outfitted with a 3x9 Leupold optic with a duplex reticle, I am surprised that I got as close as I did. Next time, we'll skip the 600 yard range and go right to 1000 with a full box.

What made you get rid of your 14" and buy a 5"?
You must be thinking of someone else. Although I have fired a 14 inch 460 in the past, I didn’t own it. This is my first. Thanks for watching.
The 5 1/2 inch barrel is ideal for balance between velocity and barrel length.
Those magnum calibers in the m77 kick like a barrowed mule. The stock design is why. I would not buy a magnum in a m77.
@@Cw81Deut6n4 Exactly why I traded it. Got a 629-1 S&W with 6 inch barrel. It’s much more fun. Thanks for watching. ✌️
Too bad it has a 5 1/2 inch barrel. Resale is higher and collectible value is the 7 1/2 inch barrel, better luck next.
It's windy, are you in Wyoming? I loved it out there.
i bought the same revolver 6 months ago on line and had to send it back to ruger to fix the off set loading gate that would allmost come open on its own and have them finish grinding down the inside of the frame in the cyilinder area and the front to rear cyilinder movement was a little to sloppy. they fixed it for no charge, but the idea that something that bad would even make it out of factory.....update...just sent in a new blackhawk 45 lc back to factory because the grip frame was offset on main frame, hole were drilled off and the blueing was half ass done. as a long time ruger fan i ame very disappointed.....
I’m really sorry and disappointed for you that happened. I have had nothing but good luck with this revolver so far. I’ve hammered a couple of thousands of rounds of 44 special through it (hand loads) and it hasn’t skipped a beat.
Less talk
how much did you buy this rifle for?
I purchased the rifle in 2017. I ordered it from Gallery of Guns. If memory serves I paid around $900. The optic was an additional $700. Thanks for watching.
Good looking pistol! I own the 4 5/8 barrel Vaquero in .357, but would definitely love to have a Blackhawk too.
I hope you’re able to get one. I enjoy mine very much.
Get yourself a hogue grip......im just saying...
I’ve considered it but I think it would ruin the look of the revolver. Besides, since filming this video I’ve gotten my reloading shop assembled and have dialed up some spicy and accurate 44 Special loads. Thanks for watching.
Super Blackhawk with a fluted cyl and round trigger guard??
Yes. Check the catalogue. Thanks for watching
Beautiful guns but tres` expensive.
Yes they are. Now more so than they were when I purchased this one a few years ago. I saved for a long time to get this one. I hope you’re able to acquire one of your own someday. Thanks for watching.
You will never be able to wear that gun out. I hope you are still enjoying it.
As often as I can
I have one just like that which I purchased some time ago and you're right, they are built like a Tank. I reload all my own ammo and with my Ruger firearms I have no issue with pushing the envelope a bit on the warmer side. Super accurate and the 7.5" model is even sweeter. Great video, thanks!
Pull the trigger already! That took forever.
How much were these scopes ?
Depending on the reticle and time of year you buy it $500-$700
I want one
If it’s a possibility, you should get one. Im really enjoying mine. The .44 special is a joy to shoot. Thanks for watching.
I want two . 😊
Leupold... The way to go... AMERICAN Made
you know this is a pinned frame later model with the transfer bar ignition system & it maybe safely loaded with 6 rounds , it won't discharge when dropped , the old 3 screw early models should be safely loaded with only 5 so put 6 rounds in that gun.I have the blued version of that same pistol with 43/4" barrel , I have taken several deer & always carried with 6 rounds.... love it ....enjoy !
correct , mine is a 5&1/2 " Barrel !
It’s an OCD thing, really. 5 in a row in the box. Symmetry and all. Thanks for watching.
That’s just fine, but try loading 1, skip 1 and load 4. Carefully cycle the hammer and you will be on an empty cylinder.
Great review; I have the 3.75” and love it!
Beautiful pistol, I love Ruger firearms 😀
I do not know whether your right handed or left-handed but in either case it doesn't matter. But cradle the firearm and your left hand and use your left hand to index the cylinder and that gun loads a lot easier with your right hand. These things are my favorite weapons, I actually own a 44 Blackhawk made in November of 1957 which is very light for a 44 Magnum. And I also own probably a dozen super Blackhawks old model and new. When you get into reloading you will notice that the Hard Cash key style bullet has a cantalore which will allow you to load Magnum charges into the 44 special cartridge and you can load it to 44 magnum overall length. The ejector Rod length is exactly the same as on all of them with that gun. They don't make longer ejector rods with a longer Barrel. They never have. And when I shoot mine I usually only load five, I have on a couple of occasions use that as a carry gun. What I have shot these a lot. I've been teaching shooting since 1970. Once again these are my favorite firearms. My favorite hunting load is 28 and a half grains of h110 behind a 180 grain Hollow point. It is blisteringly fast and it isn't the top load but it was also a very accurate load I don't want you. And I believe that's with the Sierra 180 grain but the truncated cone hollow point and 180 grain at about 1700 ft per second is probably going to be very effective. I've seen some of the hollow point ammo in the last couple of years is only loaded to 44 special velocities I do not understand that. But then again I've seen 10 mm ammo only loaded two 40 Smith velocities and they're talking about oh it's 10 mm it's so much more powerful than 40 smith. It isn't. But then again in the 1980s 10 mm was coming out at 1400 1500 ft per second and the highest velocity 10 mm you can buy today is running what 12:50? This gun is not that heavy it's probably about the weight of a full size 1911 and I carry one of those on a regular basis. The one that you have there is the Blackhawk version because it has the fluted cylinders. And it has the Blackhawk frame, and take your left hand out from under the bottom of the grip frame and put it like a regular Weaver grip. If you allow that gun to roll in your hand a little bit it makes it much easier to cock for the next shot. You can actually get very fast at shooting that and be quite accurate with it. But the actual Super Blackhawk grip frame is far more comfortable on that firearm. You say you've never owned one of those before, pick up one with the Dragoon style grip frame. Or have a Dragoon grip frame put on that gun. And that lever Evolution ammo looks really cool. It's starting to get into that recoil that my hand loads are usually set at.
The Bianchi speed strips, holding up to 6 rounds, make loading pretty easy too. That way you holding something larger than a single cartridge.
Greatest thing about a 44 Mag is you can go from very light cowboy loads to massive firepower. Expect for a small population of handgun shooters, not to many folks can actually shoot effectively with a handgun more powerful than the 44 Mag.
Thanks for watching. Since with video was posted I have gotten a reloading shop set up in my house and have done just as you prescribed. I have developed a fun and spicy 44 special load and a thumping 44 Mag.
@@BigRedPower59 I use a Hunter's Supply 200 gr Pentagon Hollow Point (PHP) lead bullet at about 1200 FPS for a self defense load in a 44 Mag case. Slots in between a full power 44 Special load and a full house 44 Mag load. Gives fairly consistent .700-.750 expansion in water jugs. Not the perfect medium for testing anything other than you have enough velocity for expansion, but it puts a ton of energy on target without the penetration and recoil. Developed this load to carry in a Taurus T44 Tracker with a 4" barrel. Very mild shooting in my 7.5" SBH.
@@timclaus8313 What powder do you typically use for your load?
@@EvilWiffles Usually A7 for reduced loads, A9 for full house loads. Moved away from W296 because the range between minimum and maximum loads is so tight. Every load is a full house load with 296 or H110.
Had a 4.5" and your right Stainless guns are heavy. The Grips are very fragile. My grips cracked a piece off on the first shot, but I was waiting for a Pachmayr Gripper anyway.
I’m still sporting the factory grips and they seem to be holding up very well. Thanks for watching.
Are these also made in Double Action.......or only single action?
Single action. The Redhawk series are double action.
I too like the heft on the Rugers.
Well made. Solid stainless steel. Feels good in hand. Thanks for watching.
Doesn’t look like the recoil is too bad. 👍
It’s really not. The weight obviously helps with that. The worst part is the levering action with the bore axis being so high over your grip.

I didn't believe the forums. I thought no way does this guy shoot with hotdogs in his bum. I can tell now though that he probably does. Watch his facial expressions.
Thanks Brother!!
4and 5/8 is what i got!!
Ruger's Rock!!!
I own several now. I’ve very pleased with them all. To be honest, I’ve purchased a Vaquero in 45LC. I reload for it and shoot it far more than I do this one these days. Thanks for watching
sweet Beard!
Thank you. I burned part of it off with a welder a few months after this was posted. 😂
I just picked up one of these at my local pawn shop with the same Weaver K4 (made in El Paso, TX!), and I can’t wait to shoot it!
I love the old tang saftey ruger m77
I just put myself in line for the 0814 with the unfluted cylinder and 4.62” barrel in stainless steel. No idea when it’ll be here but 🤷🏼♂️😢
Sorry for the late response. I certainly hope you got it and you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. Thanks for watching.
@@BigRedPower59 I love it, not what I expected at all - so much easier to shoot, I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. Also, for the algorithm because this is a good video.
Glad you enjoyed that Super Blackhawk. I have a 6.5" .44 Mag Blackhawk, and my wife gave me a SS 4.625" bbl Super Blackhawk for our 25 wedding anniversary (that's the stainless steel year, right?). Both of 'em are GREAT! Thank you for posting. Elmer would be proud.
Both are great the Rugers but the wife is a real keeper
What does your wife's boyfriend think about them?
My 1971 M77 was best rifle I ever owned and I let a shister have it cheap because he knew what I had and I didn’t.
Funny, I’m back here to torture myself again.
Just inherited one of these and was looking to sell it, till I watched this video. Im not convinced to keep it. I really would love if it were a double action, which is what id try and buy with the money
I would like a double action as well. It’s certainly on my want list. The revolver I’ve been drooling over for the past year is the Ruger Redhawk that’s chambered in 45 Colt but the cylinder is also cut for moon clips allowing you to run 45 ACP.
If a member at my club handled a firearm like that, I think the protocol for “OMG YOU CRAZY! LEAVE NOW!” would be activated.
yeah. Finger should only go on the trigger immediately before firing.
Useless Video
Call it like ya see it Danny....lol Thanks for the chuckle.
Want to say good shooting but your time it took to aim and hit was a bit must for me.
I want the 7mm rem mag but in a browning x bolt with a 28 inch barrel or 26 inch barrel
Is this a 2ws??
It was. I haven’t worked for this guy for over 5 years. Sadly, he got out of farming due to health reasons and sold his entire line at auction.
No need to only load 5 in a new model ruger
You’re absolutely right. The biggest reason I do that is because there are 5 in a row in the box. Just a thing with me.
I want one thank you for sharing
I hope you’re able to get one. You’ll really enjoy it. Thanks for watching.
I have the 4 5/8 barrel and I do carry it. Like users it didn’t have the square back trigger guard witch is a larger grip, l put one on my. The 225 ftx is a magnum but the 305 hard cast grizzly load will tump.
A deer would of been in the next county by the time you got the shot off.
It has been my experience that at 400 yards ( the distance of the shot I made on an 8 inch round ) deer generally don’t see you, therefore they don’t run.
