Unleashed was called one of the worst sonic games ever when it came out. It got so much unwarranted , undeserved hate back in the day. Glad to see the community has come to its senses. Unleashed, Colors and Generations defined my gaming experience as a child. Unleashed was my favorite always.

Something that I think would've made this boss even better is if they were allowed to use the unused original theme "Who I am" by Magna fi instead of I am. Originally, Who I Am was going to be the main theme, but after the band refused to have it used for the game, they replaced it with I Am, which I do think is a better opening theme. HOWEVER, I also think that "Who I Am" is an absolutely PERFECT theme for this fight. For one it would be a satisfying book end for the game. In every ending of the game, Shadow will utter the phrase "This is who I am!". By the time you finally get to Last Story, you will have heard that phrase a minimum of of 10 times. So getting to the true final boss and having those same words in the final boss theme would make the moment hit so much more. For another, "Who I Am" just radiates a certain personal energy to the fight, symbolizing it being more from Shadow's point of view. The whole song is basically Shadow finally telling Black Doom off for all the torment and manipulation he's put him through not just throughout the game, but his entire life. Lyrics like "YOOOOOOOOU, Never really understood me. Yoooooou always put me down" and "This is what you made me, and you're not ever gonna change me." It's basically "FUCK YOU DAD!" the Song, and it's PERFECT for this fight. In a perfect world, the band would've still let them use the song, they could keep "I am" as the opening theme, but have "Who I am" be the final boss theme, similar to what they did with Sonic heroes' main and final boss themes.

Devil Doom fight with Who I Am by Magna-Fi modded in is peak. That theme fits way more than I Am All Of Me.

This fight is pretty good, but I like metal overlord much more, which is somewhat similar to begin with gameplay wise... I just enjoy the premise and atmosphere a lot more. Especially when my favorite crush 40 theme is playing in the background 👌

And you know what's also peak? This boss fight gave us the closest thing to canon hyper shadow, which is super hero shadow. Super dark shadow looks great as well, he looks like super shadow but more golden.

Thematically? Arguibly the best final boss fight in the franchise. Right up there with Solaris and Dark Gaia (the fomer is just plain epic due to the Hedgehog trio fighting the literal god of Fire and Time and the latter is awesome cause its you and Chip fighting a villain that's been built up the ENTIRE GAME and who's influence you've been encountering on your round-the-world trip ) Gameplay-wise? I'll be honest, it leaves a few things to be desired. I might have just been a dumb kid and it has been a while, but I remember the boss being *hell* because of how relatively vague the *intended* way to beat the boss was. That, combined with how long it is, I always ended up running out of rings just before I could kill it, except , of course, the final time. At which point I NEVER wanted to repeat the boss again. *That being said* , if we could get a Shadow the Hedgehog remake where Black Doom is more like the Titan bosses from Frontiers and Shadow can actually punch and kick him (something we MIGHT be getting in Shadow Generations tbf) I would buy that sh!t in a NANOSECOND!

Honestly, if you really think about it, he was the pre-Titan to the bosses of Frontiers… a “beta-test”, if you will. Huge spectacle, while trying to attack you around the map, as well as being able to block attacks from you. Sure by modern standards it’s primitive, but you can definitely see the similarities. Fun fact: Solaris and him were the only bosses on consoles that blocked you, rather than slapping you away.

The opening to this video was PEAK! I really love Devil Doom boss fight because it has good mechanics and difficulty. Best Super Shadow boss fight ever!

Imagine if we get a reimagining of this fight in Shadow Generations that plays out similar to the Super Sonic fights in Frontiers. But instead with Super Shadow using his Chaos abilities and new Doom powers too.

I actually think this boss is better than the titan fights in story context. In frontiers sonic is just mindlessly killing the titans while in 05 this is the culmination of shadows arc. Shadow has finally rejected his “father” and put the past behind him. He becomes his real self again and saves the planet bringing hope to humanity. Finally he uses the eclipse cannon to save the world from the black arms as Gerald had intended.

Played shadow 05 on dolphin emulator. Actually really liked it despite its flaws. The final boss was good but I will say that the sound mixing was horrible. I could barely hear "I am... all of me" in the background because of the sound effects

I’m gonna be real I did not enjoy this boss fight at all, this fight took so long for me to understand how to fight it while there were indications as to what to do it was to inconspicuous for me to really understand how to beat it especially trying to get chaos blast to beat it easier. Doesn’t help you have to get 10 tedious endings. While I disagree I while not lie I do love hearing others opinions that differs from my own or other common opinions it was really nice to hear your own take on this boss, to me I think metal overlord was better but that’s me.
