    I second the idea that this video needs a timer overlaid on the black back background. It would also be really useful if you had a percentage of 36 overlaid as well.

    does anyone know what to do if you waited over 36 hours (I went to like 41 hours because I was too busy to strain it and sort of lost track of time)? My kefir separated with thick on top half and liquid on the bottom. after straining and mixing, it's too thin. Is it good to use or should I dump it? It's in the 70s/60s here where I am right now. I used 2 cups of milk. I am now on a new batch (1 cup) and will check back after 24 hours. I think I used too much milk on this batch or just waited too long...

    I purchased my grains from you. True to form, they are very hearty. My gains have almost doubled in size in a week! I guess they're happy grains. I threw out the first two offerings and the third is in the fridge for breakfast tomorrow morning while the gains are on the counter for my next batch. I missed the part about not stirring during the process. I'll refrain from doing that...

    Hi! I ordered my Kefir grains from Fusion Teas about a week ago. I've let it ferment over and over again and this is what the culture looks like after 36 hours. It never gets the pocket on the bottom nor does it get thick. What do i need to do?

    i like to siphon off the whey which results in a really thick kefir. i also use a kefir cage so i can bypass the straining step and just move the cage, with grains, into another jar and and add milk. extremely quick and easy if you have trouble standing up for long, etc. thanks for the video.

And a day after, kefir in the fridge has kind of bitter aftertaste. Can you tell me why does it happen. And it is not thick. However, I have it for 10 days.Maybe it is too early.

    This is incredibly useful, I just started this week and have been steadily accumulating questions, leading with when I know it's done. The only way this could be improved is if you had an hour counter to go along with it. 36 hour seems quite long, I'm only going 24 hours but I noticed my grains have really started to become active starting with my last batch. First few rounds there was little more then somewhat thick milk. But the most recent batch is smooth and creamy, and only too 20 hour to reach a point that I understood it to be done.

    You need 24 hours for the probiotics to be sufficient to bother making it. Either dilute it a little bit with some cream once it’s chilled or second ferment it with the length of an orange peel, or maybe 2-3 blueberries.

    I recently began making kefir with organic High Temp Pasteurized whole milk from Costco and it is thick and delicious. There seems to be no problem whatsoever with it fermenting or getting lots of curds (and whey if I leave it too long). And it comes out at least 50% thicker than when I use regular pasteurized whole milk. Why do people say not to use organic HTP milk to make Kefir? It appears to work fine to me.

    Is kefir a precursor to cheese? I once left some milk sitting in my parent's car for too long. Whatever the milk had transformed into tasted like cheese but kinda looked like that. Unfortunately my stomach didn't like it and I threw up in the driveway. 😂 It's not like I'm lactose intolerant either, I've never had problems with non expired milk.

    Just got my grains in the mail today. I have two questions. How do you suggest we store or grains once we’ve made our first (or second) batch until we’re ready to make our next batch? Or does it need to be continuous. How many times can I keep using the same grains? Also… we drink raw dairy and would like to transition our grains to thrive with raw milk. I need advice and directions on that please.

    My kitchen is at a steady 69 degrees. If I use the 6 cups of whole milk to the tablespoon of grains ratio, should I expect to go a little over 36 hours, and will the longer timeframe have negative effects on the kefir?

    • @Fusionteas
      @Fusionteas Před rokem

      You should not give the grains 6 cups of milk. You should use the least amount of grains possible for the amount of milk you want to give them. The temp should be between 70-85 degrees. If your home is colder than that then you might need to get creative. Some like to use their oven with just the light on. Some just need to place the jar near an appliance. There is some trial and error involved to get it just the way you like to enjoy it.

I had been using a bread proofing box to keep my kefir at a steady 75 degrees and was hoping to put away the proofing box because it takes up a lot of counter space. My message is the same but I frame it a little differently by saying use the least amount of grains possible for the amount of milk you want to give them.
