Should the dowel be loose? Or how loose? Mine is solidly glued in but still the dowel moves. I used E6000 glue instead of Gorilla Glue
As long as it vibrates you are good. It doesn’t have to be super stiff. Not sure using a different glue would matter that much.

So you can get the music from George Hamilton Green’s book 8 solo rags for xylo. It is the first. Some of the sections I have improvised over but they have the changes written out I think.

As a working musician, I know way more about largemouth bass than figured bass.
Facts
I started experiencing performance anxiety about two years ago; it seems to me that imposter syndrome is a surefire way to get a lot of that! Also, I've /heard/ that beta blockers are quite common among pros. Beta blockers are literally symptom treatment, as opposed to cause treatment.
My anxiety goes through the roof if I'm not prepared. When I'm solid, no fear.
That’s a cool thought. For me, I would always think I was solid but then I would see something or experience an event that would shake me. I remember just seeing everyone else at my first audition threw me upside down.

This is way too relatable. There have been some composers I've let down (one, very very much so) by saying "yes" when I shouldn't have. And I'm out of conservatory at the moment but in an informal music context today I /also/ had trouble saying no. I'm thinking "what in blue blazes is wrong with me?" And you said it best: trying to be a people-pleaser.

I wanted to be a professional musician, but once I took some of those college courses I realized it was way too rigorous for me to have decent mental health. What began as something that I loved to do became something that I dreaded. Switched into a different major and I enjoy playing again as a hobby

What alternative mindset would you suggest?
The best thing I have found is neutral observation without trying to impress. Your teacher is on your side. If you don’t feel that way, having a conversation and letting them know or finding a different teacher as a last result. I just posted a video on that mindset. Happy to also DM or set up a catch if you are interested in learning more.
Believe it or not, I’m starting my musical journey right now with a bell kit (eventually marimba is my goal)! This short just appeared out of nowhere and I think it’s what I needed to hear. I checked out a few of your others and they’re all very insightful. Thank you ❤

Sup. I do drumline for mb but do flute for concert so have no experience with mallet percussion, what are some good all around mallets? Looking for something that I can learn front ensemble stuff with
Marimba one round sound. They are green and only cost $30 a pair. I use ‘‘em all the time. Great intro mallets for sure.
