Wouldnt it make more sense to recycle an old broken pot rather than break a new one? This is the perfect use for my cracked flower pots I think!
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😅
I would have welcomed some advice about maintaining the pond. It's going to need cleaning from time to time surely. How does one go about that without disturbing the residents?
Gorgeous garden and now, with a beautiful new feature 🤩🥰✨🥹
Very neat! Thanks for doing some amazing work in stewarding reed beds and all other critters :)
in my environment, it will attract tons of mosquitoes
Not possible to have this in North America because of racoons 😭😭😭
How fantastic to see these gorgeous birds
Fantastic video dear friend, Have a nice weekend ! New friend
Which fish are appropriate for pot ponds?
Wondering how often this size pond needs cleaning. Wound love to see how you go about doing that cleaning. ❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love your little wildlife pond! And what a gorgeous and serene setting you have found to place it in. I've subscribed. 😁 Thank you so much for this one!
Beautiful mini pond..
I really like your channel. I came across it by accident and instantly subscribed. :D Too bad I don't have a garden. :( But maybe you have some tips on how to create best bird feeders on a balcony? I live in a city center but there are lots of birds. I would also like them to have water to drink, especially in the summer, but I'm afraid of mosquitoes colonizing my balcony. :D
Isn''t that going to get stagnant?
Strangely enough I have more success by letting the pond go through the natural cycle of succession by itself with minimal extra planting. I want to get this one native plant called water target, Brasenia Schreberi to grow in my pond, but idk where to buy it.
Great video and very well presented. I even think this is the best one out there, for starting a mini pond without filter and fish. I am going to make a 75L pond that sits between the patio and veggie garden. I'm going to use a couple of edible plants as well like watercress and -mint. If all goes well maybe I'll even try to add Japanese rice fish next spring. Anyways, thanks a bunch!
My problem is finding a barrel that is leak proof! I have tried a pond liner inside, but that seems to leak after a few weeks. I have even painted it with leak-proff spray paint, but still got the problem of finding another pair of hands to hold the liner folded, tightly to the side on a half barrel while I insert the staples from the gun! How about another video with all the problems you come across in real life, such as barrels that leak, where to get a helper to help hold the liner, how to measure a 2sq. metre square to mark out the size to fit the barrel and more?
That spot looked so idyllic I'm surprised it didn't have a pond already! I'm turning a Belfast sink into a mini pond, and was wondering if there's a better period for it to receive the most sun? I'm south facing and was going to put it against one wall or the other to get more sun early or late
Ending up being a cesspit not a pond. Smell was horrible, plants either died or were dieing. Changed water frequently but to no avail. Maybe I should have lined. Mosquitoes or something similar appreciated the environment I created, hundreds of the blighters.
Thanks for sharing your unsatisfactory results . 😯 This video is probably better suited for the people who are experienced with small pond setups. Of course much more research is necessary. Best wishes on future attempts. ❤
What about mosquitoes? Will this be a problem with the water sitting out without some sort of circulation or aeration?
Love your video. What would be the procedures in getting the barrel pond ready for winter? Thank you.
How much sunlight should you have?
Just to mention, whisky barrells give off a stench for 6 months minimum. This is their former life coming out the woodwork. It ruins the ater. Barrells are charred too and that black ash comes away and kills your plants and turns the gravel black permantely. Mentioning this as few others do and it helps people make an informed choice before they spend money on pond stuff that will die within 3 weeks and satin everything black.
Hi there, thanks for the information. Fortunately with our barrel, we've found none of this to be true, no smell and no black ash in the water nearly 1 year on :)
where did you buy the pond plants ?and whats the diameter of your barrel pond?
Hi there, plants were from a local garden centre - take a look in the video description for more information on them. The barrel is around 60cm in diameter.
dont you find them despicable ?
Cute 😢😢😢😢😢 doesn't describe frogs
get out
I love this! Don’t consider this a bug hotel, but an insect spa and resort!
Please add guppies (fish) They will create small surface agitation by looking for food on surface of the water and the birds get attract to moving water than standing because moving water surface gives them a reflection of the sunlight directly to the eyes so they will find easily 😀 I experienced that
Lovely video😊
Lovey video! Thank you for the tips ! 🐸💧🪴
Rain water also has nitrogen
Magnifique👍💖 vous avez beaucoup de talent Monsieur
Would you recommend a wee water fountain? I was thinking of getting one of those solar powered ones. Just a small thing so I can enjoy the sound of trickling water in my garden too.
Hi there, one of the tiny ones in this barrel would be fine - so long as the pump isn't strong enough to trap much invertebrate life. It would also benefit the aeration of the water. Let us know how it goes!
Great little video full of all info you need wildlife ponds for dummies 😊
Makes a great little pond. I've already got a couple of ponds, but this will be great for a smaller 'satellite' pond closeby, for viewing. Thankyou, look forward to more.
apart from amphibians and birds, what wildlife are attracted to these? and what plants did you use?
Hi there, mammals will use them to drink plus they are very attractive to all kinds of flying insects, particularly dragonflies. See video description for list of plants!
Stunning bird
Gonna get on this tomorrow!
Wow this is such a helpful video, I can’t wait to start building my own pond!
I did something similar last year, but had one or two issues, the main one being blanket weed. I have a powder solution to get rid of it, but just keeps coming back, swamping all the other plants and just looks a mess. I've even removed everything and started again, but same issue. Other problems - winds knocking high plants over (solved with bamboo canes holding pots in place), the metal rings outside have just corroded off, no idea how long it'll last), something eating the lily leaves, and pigeons eating any flower heads. These ponds are definitely not plug and play, they need a lot of maintenance unless I'm doing something wrong..?
Hi there, it sounds like you are doing everything right, any garden pond will need some maintenance. To tackle the blanket weed, try moving the pond to a shadier spot than it is currently in, and ensure no other excess nutrients are being left in, such as dead/rotting plant matter.
C super pour l Été .. un coin d ombre et de fraîcheur mais, avez vous pensé aux larves de moustiques… et à toutes les maladies que les moustiques propagent désormais …
Looks good but would be nice to do this type of project without any plastic. There is a lot of microplastic in the environment already.
Pretty cool. I’ve been looking for a small project like this to do with my mom. Thanks!
I’m thinking you are asking for trouble, depending on where you live.
What sort of trouble?
Amazing! I really enjoy watching it! Thank you WWT!
Tried that before and some raccoon ate all the little fish within a week.
This is a wildlife pond. There are no fish in it, its not meant for fish. Also there are no Racoons in the UK, so you might want to follow advice from the region your living in.
finalmente un video che spiega veramente come fare un mini stagno ! grazie !!!!
No problem!
We get frikkin mosquitoes here, and they’d love the standing water.
Small fish will eat the mosquito larva.
Thank you... Really love all your videos. I'm under s native white oak canopy that is constantly dropping debris and fills any water with tannins, leaves etc. but Also have some underground water that may be more suited to enhance bog conditions. It really wants to fill up with noxious ranunculus so maybe i can get something else to take over... Anyway thanks for all the great ideas and supporting biodiversity.
