    This is such and eye-opener. It's true that often, it's our impatience that come in way of our children learning process. I realized how I have been projecting my worries of my child getting late to school every morning for this last month. It created a stressful vibe in our house and the more I nagged her to get ready faster, the more she refused to cooperate and the more I got tensed. Thank you for sharing this with us!

    • @SunshineTeachersTraining
      @SunshineTeachersTraining Před 18 dny

      Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s amazing how we can see such changes when we step back and reflect. It’s never too late to adjust our approach, and by giving our children the space and patience they need, we often find they respond much more positively. It’s a journey for both of us as parents and for our children. Keep nurturing that understanding and connection-small shifts can lead to big changes!

      @SunshineTeachersTraining Před 18 dny

      Thank you for your feedback! I understand your concern. The video focuses on the principles behind Montessori discipline, but you're right-specific examples can be really helpful. In Montessori, if a child doesn’t do A or B, we observe to understand why and gently guide them towards making a positive choice. We encourage independence, set clear expectations, and offer choices that respect their autonomy. If you have specific scenarios in mind, feel free to share them, and I'd be happy to provide more detailed guidance!

    Hi. Thank you for this video. I work as a Montessori teacher in Casa (3-6). When it comes to talk about animals, food or landmarks from a continent, I mention one continent at a time because I feel that it might be confusing for them if we compare 2 continents or more. I would like to know your opinion about it. Love using figurines to discuss continents, as I mainly use cards. ❤

    • @SunshineTeachersTraining
      @SunshineTeachersTraining Před 18 dny

      Thank you for your comment! Focusing on one continent at a time is a great approach, especially with the 3-6 age group. It helps children build a clear understanding and connection with the concepts. Introducing concepts one at a time allows for deeper exploration and less confusion. However, as they grow older and more familiar with the continents, comparing them can be a wonderful way to expand their knowledge. Using figurines alongside cards is a fantastic idea-it brings a tactile and visual element that enhances their learning experience. Keep up the great work!

    Thank you so much for what you are doing, we are intending on transitioning from the traditional to the Montessori way which we find quite challenging due to the habits we've picked up along the way over a long period and also due to lack of resources, Do you agree that we should start with practical life and go on to other areas or what could we tackle first, looking forward to hearing from you,

    • @SunshineTeachersTraining
      @SunshineTeachersTraining Před 18 dny

      Thank you for your thoughtful comment! Transitioning to the Montessori approach can be challenging, but it's definitely worth it. Starting with Practical Life is an excellent idea because it lays the foundation for independence, concentration, and coordination, which are key to all other areas. Once children feel confident in Practical Life activities, you can gradually introduce other areas like Sensorial, Math, and Language. Remember, it's a journey, and it's okay to take it one step at a time. If you need any more guidance or resources, I'm here to help. Looking forward to hearing about your progress!

    Hi! Could you expand on the idea of the importance of having enough dry materials in the pitcher to have some left over after filling two different sized containers is indirectly working on mathematics skills?

    • @SunshineTeachersTraining
      @SunshineTeachersTraining Před 18 dny

      Great question! When children have to pour dry materials into two different-sized containers and still have some left over, they're indirectly working on concepts like estimation, volume, and comparison. They begin to understand that different containers hold different amounts and that the quantity of the materials remains the same even when distributed differently. This hands-on experience with volume and quantity lays the groundwork for more abstract mathematical concepts later on. It’s a wonderful, practical way to introduce basic math skills through everyday activities!

    How do you address the various ways "a" is pronounced. For example, in rat vs can.

    • @SunshineTeachersTraining
      @SunshineTeachersTraining Před 18 dny

      Great question! In the Montessori Pink Series, we start by introducing the short vowel sounds of "a," as in "cat" and "rat." Consistency in sound helps children build a solid foundation in early reading. As they progress, we introduce the idea that some letters, like "a," can make different sounds depending on the word. We use additional materials and activities to explore these variations in pronunciation as their reading skills develop. It's all about layering their understanding step by step. Please watch our video on the Green Series to see how its done

    Is that mean the teacher has no schedule? With this freedom, how the teacher measure their strength, weaknesses, and their needs? Because I have an ideas about Montessori classroom….

    • @SunshineTeachersTraining
      @SunshineTeachersTraining Před 18 dny

      In a Montessori classroom, while there is freedom for the children to choose activities, the teacher plays a vital role in guiding their learning. The teacher does have a flexible schedule that allows them to observe each child and provide lessons at the right time. This observation helps the teacher understand each child’s strengths, weaknesses, and needs. The teacher uses these insights to offer individualized support and ensure that every child is progressing. So, the schedule might not be rigid, but it's carefully planned to meet each child's needs while allowing for exploration and independence.

    the three period lesson: 1st Period: show the student the objects separately, do not present more than three objects, bring each object to the center of your display place then say the name of this object, ask the student to repeat the name after you, then return it. 2nd Period: take the objects to the center of your display place, politely, ask the student to show you the last object you've presented at the last period, then do the same for the other objects one after the other, repeat with another prompt like can you give me? this time but back the object that the student 've answered correctly. 3rd Period: start bringing the last object you put aside previously to the center of your workplace, ask him, what is this? after he answers say thank you, then but it back, repeat with the other objects separately. Finally, bring the three objects to the center, remind the child that you taught him three objects today, let's see if you remember, point to each one, then let the student say the object's name. If the student missed, you can go back and repeat the previous period. Always ask your student if they like to learn this lesson. If you want to teach some vocabulary related to a certain lesson, only do this after the child had mastered this lesson. never teach more than three words at a time. Keep reviewing what you 've teach. you can be creative about this

It's a fundamental Montessori technique that helps children internalize and master new vocabulary or concepts at their own pace. Your explanation is clear and thorough, making it easy for others to understand how to implement this method effectively. Always remembering to ask the child if they want to learn and keeping the lessons simple and focused on just a few words at a time are key points that ensure a positive and successful learning experience. Yes, the Silence Game can definitely be adapted for a Montessori lower elementary classroom! It's a wonderful activity that encourages focus, self-discipline, and mindfulness, which are valuable skills for children at this age. In a lower elementary setting, you can extend the game by adding elements like listening to the sounds around them or reflecting on how the silence makes them feel. It's a great way to build a peaceful, concentrated classroom environment.

    The thing I’m wondering about is toddlers, kids below three, may not understand reasoning and emotions fully, e.g. when a toddler starts hitting and an adult (maybe a parent or another significant adult) says “We don’t hit people, hitting is not nice and it hurts. Use your words and tell me” etc. etc. and that type of thing. Toddlers would be likely to repeat that behaviour even after they apologise if they’re not taught that it’s not acceptable and that there are consequences. I read somewhere that children under three understand actions more than words. My question is how would an adult incorporate this into a Montessori or positive discipline approach? Because let’s face it, we really don’t want “little Johnny” to be hitting. I don’t have children but used to volunteer at my local pre-school. Although most children were lovely, we had a couple who would test the boundaries.

    • @SunshineTeachersTraining
      @SunshineTeachersTraining Před 18 dny

      Thank you for your thoughtful question! You're absolutely right that toddlers, especially those under three, often understand actions more than words, and this is a key aspect of the Montessori approach. In Montessori and positive discipline, the focus is on guiding behavior through consistent actions, modeling, and creating a prepared environment. When a toddler hits, instead of relying solely on verbal reasoning, the adult can gently but firmly intervene by stopping the action and saying something simple like, "No hitting, hands are for gentle touches." Then, guide the child to use gentle hands by showing them what that looks like. It’s also important to observe and understand why the toddler is hitting. Are they frustrated, tired, or seeking attention? By addressing the underlying cause, we can often reduce the behavior. Consequences in Montessori are natural and logical. For example, if a child is hitting with a toy, the toy is removed calmly, and the child is redirected to a more appropriate activity. The adult stays consistent and patient, helping the child understand through repeated experiences what behavior is expected. Over time, as the child’s language and reasoning skills develop, they’ll begin to understand the words that accompany these actions. The key is consistency, modeling the behavior we want to see, and providing a safe, calm environment where boundaries are clear. Your experience in volunteering at a pre-school is invaluable, and your approach to wanting to guide children gently and effectively aligns well with these principles.

    What about children, esp boys who have the urge to move & don't complete the work cycle? How would you help them rather than labeling the child with ADHD? Also, what about children who move on from one activity to another very quickly and only concentrate for 3-5mins per activity (3-4 years old) ?

      These are great questions and touch on important aspects of child development, especially in a Montessori setting. For children, particularly boys, who have a strong urge to move and struggle to complete the work cycle, it's crucial to honor their need for movement while gently guiding them towards completing tasks. Montessori environments are designed to allow movement, and you can incorporate activities that involve movement, like walking on the line, carrying heavy objects, or using large motor activities, which can help them focus better when returning to more sedentary tasks. For children who move quickly from one activity to another and have short attention spans, it's important not to rush them or force them to stay on one activity for too long. Instead, observe the types of activities that seem to capture their interest, even if just for a few minutes. Gradually, you can introduce activities that are slightly more challenging or engaging to lengthen their concentration naturally. Sometimes, offering choices within a structured environment helps them feel more in control, which can also lead to longer focus periods. Instead of labeling a child with ADHD, the Montessori approach emphasizes understanding each child's individual needs and providing an environment that supports their natural development. The goal is to create a balance between freedom and structure, allowing children to move while also gently encouraging them to complete tasks. Over time, as their developmental needs are met and they feel understood, many children naturally begin to extend their periods of concentration and complete their work cycles more consistently. Patience, observation, and a prepared environment tailored to their needs are key in helping them grow.

      Thank you for your interest! A Three Period Lesson on animal sciences sounds like a fantastic idea. I'll definitely consider creating a video on that to help guide you through the process. It's a great way to introduce and reinforce concepts in zoology with children. Stay tuned, and thanks again for your suggestion!

    Love seeing new videos, and you look beautiful! Shouldn’t the first time the child starts to record be when they do the stamp game after doing collective exercises with the golden bead? In the AMI we have an exercise where we build different numbers using the large rods. Where exactly does this work fit in along the math progression? Seems if they’re ready for this then they may as well do snake game and strip boards? Thanks

      Thank you so much for your kind words, Ms. Delphine ! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. In our curriculum, recording usually starts after operations with the boards, with the Stamp Game coming later in the sequence. This first step towards recording is crucial as it bridges the concrete to the abstract, helping the child internalize mathematical concepts. The exercise with the large number rods is an early math activity that helps solidify the understanding of quantity and numerical order. It fits into the progression after the child is familiar with the basic concept of numbers and before moving on to more complex operations like addition and subtraction with the Golden Beads. If a child is ready for the addition with small number rods, they may indeed be ready for the Snake Game and Strip Boards, as these activities also reinforce addition and subtraction concepts but in different, more abstract ways. The key is to observe the child and ensure they're comfortable and confident with each step before moving on. Every child’s progression is unique, and Montessori allows flexibility to meet them where they are. Thanks again for your thoughtful questions!
