Summer book bingo was so fun! Thanks again for hosting! I had 4 days left of the month and one square left (500 pages) to get a blackout. I chose Great Expectations by Dickens not expecting to finish in time but I loved it and couldn’t put it down! The only other Dickens I’ve read was Oliver Twist and it was just okay for me so I was surprised 🙂 I had several other five stars this month from multiple genres including The Heir and the Spare by Kate Stradling, Authentically Izzy by Pepper Basham, and Things We Didn’t Say by Amy Lynn Green. I hope September goes well for you!

Nice Wrap Up! 📚 I really liked The Kamogawa Food Detectives. It was a sweet story and a nice way to wrap up my summer reading. ☀️ I haven’t read Attack on Titan, but I’ve enjoyed the anime. However, I think I’d enjoy the manga. I had an enjoyable time participating in Summer Book Bingo. Congrats to the winner! Thanks to this challenge, I started listening to audiobooks again. My favorite read in August was probably The Night Circus. I remember so little about The Red and the Black, except that I really enjoyed it! Last year I read Hawthorne's Marble Faun, the only thing I've read by him, and LOVED it. The story wasn't fantastic or anything. I just got so absorbed in his writing. If you love reading about art and architecture, I highly recommend it. I'll probably trade in my Tale of Genji copy at Half Price Books. 😭

Yay for the winner of book bingo! Yay for finishing tale of Genji! I finished it too! I enjoyed Genji more than you did, but I listened to the audible version and loved that translation more. It did get repetitive, but I enjoyed the poetry. I think listening to the poetry helps for me.

Thanks for sharing these tips! I feel like a lot of classics seem more intimidating than they actually are just because they're "classics." I also feel like I know very little about Russian history, especially pre-communism, so I do want to do some research on Russia before I start picking up more Russian classics (I've only read Anna Karenina so far).

I hope you enjoy Shadows of Self and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! And I'm curious to hear what you think of Hester. I had it on my radar at one point but then decided I wasn't interested, so I'm curious to know if I made the right decision or not.

Happy reading for your birthday month! Blue Castle is a book that I have on a future TBR. I keep reading comments of how much everyone loves it. I am hoping you do too (and that when I finally get to it I will as well). You mention Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. When I had visited Scotland I went to a wonderful museum called The Writers’ Museum (in Edinburgh). The museum holds artifacts from three of the biggest authors of Scotland: Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott (Which I recommend his works), and Robert Louis Stevenson. One of the artifacts is a wardrobe that was owned by Stevenson. Said wardrobe was built by one of the inspirations to his character, Dr. Jekyll. (It is also one of the few examples of carpentering done by said man.) I highly recommend visiting this museum if you ever visit Scotland.

He is one of my favorites as well. Crime and Punishment is my favorite so far also. I finished it in like 3 days 😂. I need to read a few more of his books though to know for sure.

It’s so funny how similar our homeschooling is. 😂 We use most of the same stuff. I do need to do essay stuff as well.

Why am I not surprised that the two books that most intrigued me were your top two? Haha. I’m bummed to hear The Book of M was a disappointment because that sounded so unique and interesting. If you decide to pick up The Fox Wife let me know. I’m adding that to my TBR.
