Hello, my name is Jan Hammer. A child of the Basque community in Boise, Idaho I have spend much of my working life in television. Though I love music I am not the Jan Hammer of Miami Vice fame. I do admire his work however. A wannabe guitar picker I once told a friend "I want to learn to play in the worst possible way". He replied "you already do". Eydie had clarity, perfect pitch, and great range. Garland knew this. The big difference was in Garland’s over the top delivery and power. It was the secret to her magic. Eydie’s was the crisp clear and refined delivery. When I performed, (though male), my delivery was on a par with resounding standing ovations. So rewarding to soar at that level.🎉

John Prine was playing small Austin clubs (the Chequered Flag at 15th & Lavaca is one) in his first 1970-71 visits, while Nanci was in high school. She'd mention it was an eye-opening experience. It was a Tuesday thru Sunday set, and folks were there because Steve Goodman told them they HAD to come in and see him. HAD TO. Steve had a great following in Austin so folks turned out, and then it became Prine's Town, Too, as he'd return for 4- then 3-day sets at bigger, higher paying clubs. Just imagine a high-school senior who'd learned GREENSLEEVES and AUTUMN LEAVES to strum on her guitar, only to discover how fundamental guitar could turn into exquisite life-scapes.

Heard this song back before a beautiful cutter ketch came into my hands. How sweet it is, swinging at anchor on a rainy stormy day with coffee and a book, listening to the sounds of the boat and the rattle of the rain as she swings and moves with the wind, with maybe Gordy playing as well.
