How much cold could it take before it froze? I am thinking of growing one here in mid ga. Thanks.
Where can I purchase some of these seeds?
Thanks for the video. I live in SA. Im going to grow some. I have also had similar results scaring the pride of Barbados seeds. Scaring works better for these type seeds. 😀👍
Love the fart at 42 seconds! You thought you got away with it, but I caught you! Thanks for the info, we'll see how this works, I've got a bunch of seeds.
ME! rewinding it to 42 seconds just to hear him fart. 😂😂😂
Oh boy you're a SHARP GUY 😅
Someone was taking a air layer off of the tree thats the best thing to do forget a seedling
Good stuff! Thank you for sharing!
California avocados are just on a whole different level.
Hello. Is this grafting still alive and has it produced any fruit please?🌱
Well done! Do you know what variety of mulberry you have their? I have a summer English Mulberry that I've been trying to take cuttings off for years. They are still alive after a year and then when I pull them from the dirt to transplant them, they have absolutely no rootstock and have solely survived on the watering I've given them. I've only just found out about grafting an English Mulberry onto a fig rootstock. I imagine the grafted area would have to be wrapped tightly so it didn't lose condensation. I've noticed some people put wax on the top of their graft, if it is open at the top, Saturday don't lose moisture from the new graft. The spring Mulberry, Higgs fancy and Pakistani variety are quite popular over here, an easy a variety to strike😊
What's the different between Blue Giant and Texas Blue Giant? Are they same?
Is there anyway you can send me some of those seeds! In Carolina
Hey, wondering about an update? Any luck? What about the other direction? Fig on mulberry?
Awesome video
When 99% of the people going to the VA are handicapped then you can’t expect much. I just had to go there for the first time in many years for a noon appointment. I was pleasantly surprised that (except for having to motion a security cop to move his vehicle since he was blocking three spots) that I had no problem parking. The mobile cart transported me right to the front door-couldn’t have been happier.
I just received in the mail 2 cuttings of the Texas Blue Giant Fig. I'm really excited to grow and taste it.
Where did you get the cuttings from? Can't find them anywhere
How do you make a cutting? I'm sad cause my root beer plant is only 18inches or so and it's been over a year. I have them in 5 gallon buckets but I live in southern California. Help😢
You should not plant for 2 days after cutting. Pots don't do as well as soil planted. They tend to root bind after 1 year. I have a 3' variety of these same purple flowers. I also have Opuntia leptocaulis.
I have an avocado seed can you explain the best way to get it to grow? I live down the road from you in Gatesville.
I know this video is very old but how do these avocados taste? What is their flavor and texture compared to the standard Hass? Do the leaves have the anise smell?
I learned allot from this video!! Thank you!!
HEB has the cold hardy mexicola,Joey, fantastic,LiLa right now for 35$ they are about 3 ft tall and in healthy conditions here in San Antonio. I have a Lila and brogdon in ground and an oro negro in a large pot that struggled with our sun and dropped leaves then grew new larger hardy leaves and is looking good ,just bought the mexicola that is supposed to take cold/ freezing weather but might be a little more delicate to our sun. I have many seedlings that I’m grafting with my queen, surprise, brogdon and oro negro the seedlings are being exposed to our weather without much protection I will see which ones can survive for root stockings so far so good. Perlite disintegrates after a while using lots of pumice instead to avoid root rot also mycorrhiza and mulch to protect my trees. PVC insulated tubes from Home Depot to avoid freezing pipes is what I’m using to protect trees specially over the grafting area from bottom to the beginning of canopy also using them on my star fruit and papayas and Barbados cherry which unfortunately all still have fruit on them
I keep hearing about these gorgeous loquats. Think it's another fruit I will have to grow just so I can taste one here in the UK.
Where are you located? For growing purposes!
Zone 8B, San Antonio TX
@@retired1sg718 San antone would have mighty weather for Calamansi. Good job soldier. You have respect from a Filipino
Update please 🥰
I've been propagating a lot like this as well. Any experience using it as grafting stock/root stock?
Would have been better to take one out of the soil so we see the roots!!!
Great video, hoping to take mine out of the pot and plant it soon. Thanks!
Do make any specific cuts on your air layers, or do you just stick on soil and secure it with aluminum foil?
Hi there. I cut above and below the node, taking the bark off. Once bark is peeled off, use a clean knife and shave the cambium layer off. If the cambium is not shaved off, it will heal over and not grow any roots.
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for the information, I’ve been wanting this tree and now know I can grow my own.
You still don't know.
Those are some good looking roots 👌
Did you ever try again? How much growth did it get before it broke?
Hi there. Unfortunately I didn't have time to try again. It was extremely slow to grow, maybe about an inch total. If you give it a try, I'd love to see your outcome!
What kind of soil is that in? I live South of houston and I'm wondering if my soil will feed an avacado tree.
Great tree. Is your Fantastic self-fruitful?
good video love that variety of cactus, I have several growing at my house
Did this avacado tree die after the freeze we had?
What species of cholla is this? Thanks
I was researching Lida and fantastic trees when I ran across your channel and decided to take the plunge. I bought a lida from Frank's garden center off WW White rd. A week later I was surprised to find a fantastic at a Walmart in New Braunfels for $39. I decided not to purchase one thinking a fantastic would get too big. But of course bright and early the next morning I was in the Walmart garden center not only buying the fantastic but a Meyer lemon and a tangerine. I repotted all four of them yesterday in cactus and palm soil. All of them looked great this morning except for the Lida. Her leaves are very droopy and she does not look well at all. The soil around her root ball fell apart while transplanting her so I'm thinking that probably has something to do with it. But not sure what I should do to get her healthy again. Do you have any suggestions? I'm thinking fertilizer but I'm not sure what kind. Growing up in California it wasn't abnormal to have black trash bags full of fresh avocados most years. The thought of being able to grow my own here in San Antonio it's so exciting for me. Thank you so much for your videos. I wouldn't have purchased any of the trees if I hadn't seen your success.
Hi there. Your Lila will be ok. I'd recommend to place her in a shady area for at least a week, or at least out of full sun. She went into shock when the roots were disturbed but will bounce back.
Can I planting an orange tree in Seattle
What do you think of the Joey flavor? I’ve heard some people say it has a funky taste.
Have you had any fruit from the Joey avocado? How big are they? Any updates on it?
Hi there. Yes we had fruit about 3 years ago. They are smaller than the Fantastic avocado with a soft skin. We planted one and kept it in the ground the past 2 freezes and survived. No fruit on it since the freezes since we cut it back.
How did the tree fare after the freeze last year?
All my citrus and avocados didn't make it
@@retired1sg718 Aww man, sorry to hear that. That was a gorgeous tree. You should plant another one there. Hopefully, we won't have another freeze like that in our lifetimes. I'm in Houston and I just planted a Joey and a Fantastic this week.
That’s a gnarly citrus
When you first started growing it, how did you protect it against later winter freezes? I tried growing one but it was taken out by later winter freeze
These trees are protected due to being in a court yard. It's difficult to keep them alive when they are out in the elements. I'd recommend leaving in a pot, and bringing in when freeze comes.
We had two types of banana fig in the Harris County Master Gardeners orchard at Bear Creek Park on Houston's west side near Hiway 6 and north of I-10. about 20 years ago. One turned slightly yellowish when ripe and the other only got a little less or pale green. I have seen posts that the Kadota was the same as one of these. This facility has been closed due to flooding. The big attraction of the banana fig is that it has a closed eye and does not turn sour due to moisture. But it ripens and birds dont notice them as they do darker figs. And near the coast we get huge numbers of birds several times a year.
Our tree is very tall but skinny. Production has also dropped off in the last year or two. Can we top ours?

Hey, you still there? Says “retired” I’d love to ask a question.
Howdy..ask away! Lol
Hello, I contacted you last year on reference to some cuttings. If you have any plants started, I would like to purchase a couple from you.
Hello, I'm so sorry for responding back so late. But this year we didn't have a good harvest and didn't push out too much growth to propagate.
You can make a lot of juice with that.
i have a joey avocado, said to need a pollinator do fantastics need a pollinator?
