The beginning notes aint veena as somebody has told. The gamakas are. U can read about the importance, how and when to use, what each part signifies and the unique feature it shares among all percussion instruments. Mash has used it effectively in many bgscores.anyway i dont find the tone funny.its tone, and similar instrument tone has been used as score for funny scenes,by newgen maybe.mash ഒരൊ instrument ഉം use ചെയ്യുന്നതിന് കഥാപാത്രവുമായി ലിങ്ക് ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റും.anyway funny is not at all the first thing it's divine tone evokes on me. The instruments used are woven from the legendary tale. The veena, the vintage raga, mridang, are beautifully blended to class when used along with the string section. There are more in the vidamatte scene-the exact point where the music starts, instruments used, (he uses a non south indian instrument there)and notes add up to bring in the magic of the sequence. Mash uses instruments according to the style of movie and its time period. Many examples . Another thing is mash usually doesnt use synth tones but here he uses them with distinction(he uses them in his pop/non classical western compos). The pads atmos chorus bells glockenspiel like tones etc. He uses his signature flute on fourths in some horror scenes and also high octave with dukki slide, synth chayp in comical scenes.

Nowadays i feel that in many movies , the background overpowers even dialogues ..not sure if its a problem in the theatre sounding where i watched
