      About 12 hours. I put them right under a grow light so they get a good amount of heat and light. Once the leaves come in, I move them further away to avoid burning the leaves.

    The best way to prevent transplant shock is by starting with a premium potting mix, suitable for your plants need. In this case, this variegated maranta, doesn’t like to get too dry between watering. So I’m using this Soilless Potting mix from Tropics In The City because it has coco chunks which help retain a good amount of water to help your plant stay hydrated longer, without making it feel like it’s drowning. Keeping your plant hydrated can be challenging, especially when being repotted into a chunky mix, so it’s essential to use a mix that can keep it evenly moist without waterlogging it until it adapts to the new medium. This mix is also packed with essential nutrients which will help your plant recover and adapt faster. Use code ‘Ghada15’ for 15% off your orders today - www.tropicsinthecity.com

    The mix I used is from Tropics In The City Orchid mix. It is made up of Orchid Bark, Coco chunks, Moss, Leca, biochar and organic fertilizer. It’s super fast draining and perfect for a ficus tree. The spray helps prevent and treats pests, and helps prevent transplant shock and helps the plant absorb nutrients. For more information on the products use, visit www.tropicsinthecity.com 😊

    I had mine in a bottle Cap of water inside a Smaller plastic container and put a cup over it. I watched another ladys videos and that's what she does. I got my first corm from my dragon scale right at the surface just about to poke out the soil so i cut it off. There are more just haven't took it out of pot to get the rest there is another close to the top just not big enough yet. I just transferred it into a container like this give it a try

    What weather striping do you recommend?

    • @PlantsbyGhada
      @PlantsbyGhada Před 4 měsíci

      I don’t remember the exact one I got. But it was from a local hardware store and it’s a rubber foam seal tape. It’s very easy to use. Try to get one that’s thin enough so the doors can still close. You even find a roll of them on Amazon for pretty cheap. You just tape them along the cracks of the door frame. They’re very easy to do and helps trap in the humidity. But I would also recommend getting a few fans (the ones I used are the Dual usb control fan on Amazon) to help keep the air circulating in the cabinet.

    I repot ALL my plants as soon as I get them. Here's why 👇🏼 I find most of the plants I buy from nurseries are potted in a very dense substrate. Which is ideal for the plants to thrive in a greenhouses which gets tons of light, heat and humidity and air circulation which would typically dry out too often if potted in a more chunkier mix.. When growing plants in our home, they don't usually get as much humidity, light, heat or even air circulation, unless you own a greenhouse. Which even then, can be hard to maintain in an 1kea greenhouse. I like to use a soil-free potting mix (linked in bio) because it helps eliminate fungus gnats, especially for plants that like to stay consistently moist, which as you would do, is the perfect environment for fungus gnats. It is super chunky, so it never gets waterlogged, but it also has amazing water retentive properties that helps distribute water as needed to the roots without letting them dry out. So you won't need to water as often as you think. It also comes packed with an organic fertilizer, so your plants are ready to go the second you repot them. Do you repot your plants as soon as you get them?

    I accidentally broke my baby alocasia off of its corm when potting it out from the mother plant! It has some small roots and two small leaves, will it still survive without its corm? And what will happen to the corm?

    • @PlantsbyGhada
      @PlantsbyGhada Před 4 měsíci

      As long as it has roots, it should be fine. It could still have a piece of the corm attached to it. But it’s hard to tell without seeing it. As for the corm, you can propagate it using this method. It should also be find.

    How do you water that potting medium? In my experience it has a lotnof trouble staying damp

    • @PlantsbyGhada
      @PlantsbyGhada Před 4 měsíci

      The coco chips hold a good amount of water. Just make sure you’re watering the plant thoroughly until the pot has some weight to it. I usually let the plant sit under running water for at least 30 seconds, and I only water about once a week.

    When you're going from LECA or any Semi-hydroponic growing medium, it's best to choose a chunky, water retentive potting mix. This will assure your roots don't go into too much shock since they're used to being in a fast draining and well aerated growing environment. Having a water retentive growing medium also helps provide the roots with enough water without water-logging issues commonly found in dense potting mixes. This soil free potting mix helps provide the perfect balance between being chunky and fast draining, while also having amazing water retentive properties. It is also packed with a well balanced organic fertilizer which will help your plant thrive the second it is potted.
