Steam engines, locomotives & railway featured on stamps, postmarks and other postal items are definitely one of the more popular thematic areas, capturing the hearts of many collectors for decades, 🚂🚞🛤.
I took a closer look at one of the oldest steam locomotives, the Dolgoch - which still operates today!

Just joined.How does one know which penny black penny red to put on the in the first set in a standard cat. I don't think you can use any penny black that was issued in May 1840...That's what i'm getting at.I also collect Britain, Greece, New Zealand, Cyprus, Cook Islands.
Not sure if I follow your question, but I have made my approach to go by plate number and postmarks, to differentiate printing periods.
In the same boat myself. The first reds must be Alphabet 1 and this is not too hard to sort out from hard-copy or online listings of the alphabet types. After that it is down to identifying the plate used by finding small differences between plates noting that this can differ for each letter pair on each plate, and some plates were repaired or may have changed slightly during use.Getting hold of images of each of those plates is your/our challenge. I am sure it is nothing that money cannot resolve! In the past I have noticed that some dealers/specialists offer a plating service.

I don't collect stamps with trains or any other topic regarding transport, but stamps with especially old steam locomotives on them are always beautiful to look at. Thanks for this very nice video, ThreeStunStamps!

Virtual exhibitions are going to stay for sure, but be careful, there are official ones and non official ones. Filabras is a private exhibition held by a Brazilian seller, but has no official FIP validity or recognition, the same for their medals and jury feedback. Just in case someone thinks participating there can count before going to an official FIP exhibition. If virtual exhibitions are going to be competitive, they should be clear about it's validity, just to avoid exhibitors get confused thinking those medals count as official. CUBAFIL is clearly non competitive, but people can vote the ones they like. Virtual stampex doesn't seem to be competitive, although I'm not sure. But it'll be great to have more virtual exhibitions, hopefully more non competitive ones, just to see stuff and hear presentations. As you say, new generations are there, on the virtual world, and can't be ignored. I know that many jurors don't like virtual exhibitions, but I guess they will need to adapt. Some people has concerns also about how easy can be to "enhance" your collections by adding images of rare pieces that you don't even have, or alter images of some pieces, etc, and how can that be detected. But as I said at the beginning, virtual exhibitions are here to stay, probably more discussions are needed about this for the future, define regulations, etc.

I found the virtual expo advertised on their Instagram account a few months ago… there is an upcoming one by PTS Stampex on 2-4 May, with on special talks on various topics and other events, all live online. What a great video full of valuable information! The Maltese Crosses are some of the most collectible postmarks out there but some can be pretty hard to find, especially the colourful ones. A rare postmark can more than double the value of the stamp!
