Hej, Hej, (Swedish for Hello, pronounced like Hey, Hey)
I’m Tammy, a wife, mother, grandmother, practicing gardener, food preserver, champion re-purposer, animal lover, small-space homesteader, and follower of Jesus. You won’t find me dwelling it, but I’m also an MS (Multiple Sclerosis) fighter. I’ve battled this monster since my early thirties, trying a myriad of medical concoctions that felt more like poison than cure. (Ok, there is no cure)
However, I come from a long line of tough and stubborn Swedes, so my determined spirit refuses to let this illness take me down. My great grandparents were this family’s original homesteaders; carving out a home in Sweden’s Arctic Circle. I'm following their path to a natural way of combating this beast through eating a diet of fresh whole foods.

What fruit did u use i want to make it
@SidneyNgumba Hey Hey Sidney. Thank you so much for your great question! We make many types of juice on the Homestead. Apple, grape, and pear, for example. However, this particular juice was made from one of our plum trees. It's very delicious. Here is a link to the video that shows how to make this tasty treat. czcams.com/video/BpM9ZAM71ck/video.html. Thanks for watching, and I hope to see you again in the comments. Have a blessed day. Yours, Tammy

lol i did the same thing it took me 3 hours it was a nightmare
Greetings Friend, Wow, that is a really long time to invest. It took us less time but there were 2 of us and sometimes 3. It was so comical however. Because whenever we move it to turn it on it side, all of the supports would fall off. This is the first year I have used this unit so time will tell if it is worth it. I will give a full review next season. Just wait until I give my review on our large harbor freight greenhouse build.🤦♀️ Thanks my friend for commenting, I love ❤️connecting with our viewers. Thanks! This is the most useful video/article I've found for how to use my small plums. Such a hassle to remove the pits.
Thank you for watching, I am so glad that you found it to be helpful! Our goal is to make a difference to others.
This is nice ☺️
When you say “typical potting mix” what do you mean? Looks like you mean one that’s more like dirt rather than the fluffy sphagnum peat stuff that’s often labeled similarly.
I am so sorry to take so long to respond. I have been sick for a few weeks, and I am finally feeling better. When I say typical, I mean most commonly available. This bag I used contains ingredients that are good for containers. Forest Humus, Compost, Pumice, Sand, and Peat Moss. By sifting this for seed starting mix, it will remove larger particles that may inhibit smaller seeds, such as peppers and tomatoes, when breaking through the soil. I hope this helps, and thanks again for your imput. May your gardening dreams come true. Happy Homesteading Adventures, yours Tammy
Thanks for responding, glad you’re feeling better

What type of Rosemary do you have ??? I have never seen a Rosemary plant in bloom
I believe mine is Tuscan Blue. Rosemary flowers come in a variety of colors. Red, Pink, Lavender and White. Rosemary blooms when it is mature, one or more years old. If it doesn't bloom, you're soil may not be to the plants liking. Some climates may be to cold for it to act as a perennial and it doesn't reach maturity. You have given us great ideas for additional videos! I hope that these answers help and thank you for keeping the conversation going! Yous, Tammy
💖🌿
Very sweet 😊
I smoke it with my marihuana
This is interesting. Rosemary is known for its calming effects, especially when burned or diffused. I would like to just add one precaution to those who wish to try this hack. A few individuals are allergic to Rosemary and may have a very negative reaction. However, on the flip side, it can be very healing for respiratory ailments. This could be a great video! Thanks for keeping the conversation going. Yours, Tammy

had a coworker complain the grapes he was buying went bad too fast and could do nothing. i knew where he was coming from. this has been years past. here recently i was reliving this problem. so I tried this, and it seems to work fine. i wash the grapes in cold fresh water, remove the stem and cut them in half. grapes keep fine
That is a great tip! Thanks for sharing that with the community.
very much a pleasure@@CityHomesteadLiving
Just a thought. Using a blender will chop the seeds. This may make your juice more bitter. You can pulverise the grapes with the end of a wooden rolling pin, then use a potato masher when squashier.
That's a great idea! Thank you for sharing your tip! I love trying new things so the next time I am processing grapes, I will give it a try, and I'll post my results. Yours, Tammy
Great job and wonderful tutorial on this process! 😊❤
Thank you for your kind words. Our mission is to provide valuable information to help others live a more sustainable way of life, right where they are.
wow, isnt there a way to preserve the skins? Thats where all the antioxidants are!
Hey thanks for commenting, I love it when we can keep the conversation going! To answer your question, much of the skins do end up going through the sive and into the finished product. However, you can slip the skins and save them to process later. You could dehydrate and powder them. Then add them to your jams or any other grape product you make. This is a great idea that we might have to do a video about.
interesting you mentioned dehydrating them, thats exactly what i was thinking. Thankyou.@@CityHomesteadLiving

If you put enough booze in it, it makes no difference😊

I also use a "Jack LaLane" type juicer to get the juice, then can. I used to freeze, but my freeze died.

Hello, I have a question! Doesn't the immersion blender break up some of the seeds? It seems that these seed shards (and seedy taste?) would then be able to pass easily through the mill or ricer and I assume that this changes the character of the jam? It doesn't look like your jam contains seed fragments, and I have to conclude that you definitely still enjoy the flavor of the jam after the seeds have been immersion-blended! I'm curious to know your thoughts on this, bc it's clear that my 'fears' about the seeds are probably invalid, but I'm super interested to hear perhaps why! =) I have a bunch of concords right now after a long afternoon of harvesting from very high up with pole loppers etc, and I'm eager to preserve them somehow. I will continue to research here on youtube, and get that done today. But your video made me curious! Thank you for sharing this video =)
Greetings! Thank you for sharing your questions in the comments. The immersion blender doesn't seem to break up the seeds too much. I mostly use it to break up the skins. (Which are softer) you can skip this entirely if you have concerns, and use a potato ricer or food mill to extract the seeds. I hope you have a great success with your preservation. Be sure to let the community know how you did it in the comments. We all have a hunger for learning and I love learning from others in this community. As always, Happy Homesteading Adventures! Tammy

Do these turn out crisp?
Thank you for joining the conversation. I hope this answer helps you. I find that these will stay fairly crispy in the fridge for about a month. Beyond that, they will be edible but tend to become limp. Things also depend upon the size and type of cucumber you use. Smaller pickling cucumbers stay crisp longer. If you want pickles to store for long-term, I recommend traditional canning and using "pickle crisp". Here is a link to where you can find it : amzn.to/44xagVG Thanks again for your question, feel free to ask me about anything we post. Happy Homestead Adventures Yours Tammy
@@CityHomesteadLiving Thank you.
What do you do with the mother?
Greetings Alexis, Thanks for engaging in the comments. Here are a few things to note about ACV. A few differences exist between filtered apple cider vinegar (ACV) and apple cider vinegar with the mother (a mass of bacteria that forms during fermentation), which you can also call unpasteurized, unfiltered, or raw apple cider vinegar. Filtered ACV has a weaker apple flavor. The filtering process removes the mother but also some of the natural apple flavor. Cooking using unfiltered apple cider vinegar produces better flavor. ACV with the mother also contains natural probiotics. Removing the mother also removes the threads of probiotic-dense and enzyme-rich bacteria, which might present some health benefits. ACV with the mother can be a starter for other vinegars. It’s possible to use unfiltered apple cider vinegar to start other homemade vinegars-the mother will help you kickstart the fermentation process. I hope this helps, Yours, Tammy

I’m pretty sure it’s not the hairs turning into roots. It’s just that the stem has the ability to create advantageous roots wherever it detects moisture. And the stem also happens to be covered in hair like the rest of the plant.
Thank you so much for responding and keeping the conversation going in the comments. You are actually correct. The hairs are called tricomes and they provide a defensive mechanism for the plant. The little nodules which you cannot see on a immature plant or what actually produced the roots so I should have said that they're replaced by the roots. Here's a quote "Why do tomatoes have trichomes? Tomatoes have trichomes to help protect them from pests and disease. The tiny trichomes on tomato plants are like glands that secrete essential oils which give tomato plants their wonderful scent. It is precisely that scent that aims to repel some pests.' Here is what the little nodules are called a link to learn more information about these things. "Adventitious roots" www.ruralsprout.com/tomato-hairs/
