The name should say it all.
But it doesn't stop with the Balkans, also includes dances from the Eastern European and the Middle East countries and with luck I'll also be able to post some Western European dances I did before getting totally involved with the Balkans.

Velikdensko Horo
"Velikdensko Horo" (Dance for Easter) is a basic Pravo with a couple variations. This can be a mixed or separate lines of men and women. If men form a separate line its done in a shoulder or belt hold and will often involve a dance called "Capraz". This version comes from villages in the Strandza Mts in the Thrace region of Bulgaria. In the video we start as a mixed line then the men break off and dance the Capraz. Introduced by Iliana Bozhanova

Cupurlika is a woman's Turkish Macedonian dance similar to the Cocek but as the music speeds up the rhythm changes from 7/8 to 7/16. It's the same footwork but the timing is different. The music here is unknown but an excellent piece is track 14 on the CD Macedonian Folk Dances with Pece Atanasovski Vol1.

Bravo ! Svaka čast gospodine !!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you
I can't believe you used the t-word to refer to a women's chest! Your comment was on an innocent American Bandstand video. How can you talk like that? And what gets me is that I have ranted about this for 20 years online!
What are you talking about?
Love this dance so much. love the song, the music, the whole vibe <3 Thank you!
Thanks, glad you enjoy it.
Danke, jetzt kann ich den Tanz lernen
Thanks, glad the video helped you.
Petur is so great at clearly articulating those quick-quick steps with high energy. Not all of us will be able to do jump so high as we are aging, but we can aspire to it and then do better than we might otherwise. Thanks, balkandancer for making this available. Love this dance, and it was taught recently by Gergana Panova to a group of Bulgarians who have come to live in our SoCal area, perhaps a couple decades ago. They have been inspired to reclaim the folk dances and promote their culture. I am one of a small number of non-Bulgarians, long-time dancers, who dance with them. We love the high energy of the dancing and being with people who don't stay silent, but express their enjoyment orally as well.
Glad you enjoyed it. Petur is a great instructor and dancer. I was proud to learn dances not only from not only him but also his father in Bulgaria. I've always enjoyed this high energy dance and is one of my favorites but unfortunately it's not done much in my area so I dance it solo when I hear music with the right rhythm/beat.
Bravo majstore,svidja mi se❤

It’s weird seeing people not understanding the beat hold where to speed it up and syncopate the steps…completely not feeling the bests

Is this supposed to be a group dance?
It's done in short lines using a belt hold
@@balkandancer That makes sense.
@@qwertyTRiG Probably should have said that when I made the video(s) but they were made for a dance club where I taught a lot at so they already knew that stuff. Didn't think about explanations about the dance when I posted it. I'll keep it in mind for others. Hope you enjoyed it and got something out of it.
@@balkandancer Most folk dances I watch are the ones explaining computer sorting algorithms, to be honest. Though I have done some mediaeval European dancing myself.
@@qwertyTRiG computer sorting algorithms? got me on that one, I'm just an American who loves eastern European folk music and dances. But have also done a lot of western European folk dances as well as some middle eastern.
Your pronunciation is wrong for this dance
My pronunciations have never been the best, even for English. Care to help out so I can improve?
Should be BEH-ran-che. A lot of Balkan dancers struggle with the way Macedonian puts the accent on the antepenultimate syllable.@@balkandancer

Very nice! Here is a different version, inspired by this, acoustic: czcams.com/video/BLIL37TbzKA/video.html
This is the 16-measure pattern that Jaap Leegwater ( www.jaapleegwater.com ) taught back in the 1980s (and recently reviewed at a Folk Arts Center of New England online workshop). It's not the same tune he used when he taught it to us back then, but there are tons of suitable tunes for this basic dance.
Gyönyörű!

I'm TOTALLY into this. We are starting a tradition 3 and 4th of July, and want to get our family off on the right foot. With drums circles, live music, 25 yard skirts and folk dancing. Do you think your dancers could visit us for an hour at a park in Richland? And teach us a circle folk dance? I have a handicap and won't be able to dance with you or I would help. What contributions could I make for your time? I'm hoping to find traditional folk dancers like you in the tri-cities area. This would just be a dream come true. You definitely got what I'm looking for.
Glad to hear you're enjoying the music/dance so much but I'm a bit confused. I recorded this dance at a workshop I attended held in Richland by the Richland Folk Dancers. I, myself am not from the trip-cities area. Does the local folk dance group no longer exist? If so I may be able to help you out but I would need to know a lot more about what it is you would want from me.
Sorry, in English please?
A Hora az más néven a kezes
That is not like this in Albanian customs
You will find that in America there are many Folk Dances done that do not follow the true customs of the country they are said to be from. This particular dance was choreographed by the instructor teaching it who is from the Netherlands. I don't even know if he has been to Albania. As a dancer who loves the music and dances that I do know that are true to their respective countries please do think I or most Americans are showing any disrespect to Albania or any other country.
balkandancer the music if the asset of Albania fella so no one can change the way that it is danced
I am Albanian and We can’t admit having this wrong usage of our folk
Who is this crazy man who teaches those people in a wrong way. I m sure Albanians are going to settle him in the court.

It all depends on if you talk to Hungarians or Romanians. I've many from both and have music from both. The person I learned this dance from happened to be Romanian. I'm not about to argue about it one way or another. Folk dancing is a living art form and changes everyday and has over the past century's as people travel and borders change. Dance and have fun.

Glad up like the dance. We're a small group in NW Washington We dance in a community hall in a small town called Bay view. The group has been around for many years. The dance was taught to us by a young woman who has a performing group in Romania and was here to perform during a festival we have every year. The music was on a CD she burned for us. I uploaded a few others she taught at the same time you sould be able to find under my name. balkandancer
