I love making and playing games. I worked professionally in the game industry for about 10 years on titles like Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Far Cry 3 & 4, LawBreakers, Radical Heights, and now I've gone indie, working on my first solo title: Fist of the Forgotten. I post stream highlights, game clips, tutorials, and other misc. stuff here. Some of you may know me from the 90's Quake series mods, such as Digital Paint: Paintball 2 (which is still live, by the way).

Some footage from the Paintball 2 Social Saturday events. Game is still going after 26 years! These clips were from around March-May of 2019, though. I have a microwave that plays something resembling the John Cena theme. We do Social Saturday events every other Saturday starting at 2PM EDT / 6PM UTC. Hope to see you there!

I'm not quite understand, why not just multiplied by delta time if the problem is frame rate dependant?
Yeah, I need to do a more in depth explanation, but the issue is that acceleration changes your velocity over time, so your velocity at the beginning of the frame is different from your velocity at the end of the frame (after you apply acceleration), so if you just multiply the velocity by the delta time to get the distance, using the velocity before applying the acceleration and after applying the acceleration are incorrect, and the longer your frame time is, the more off it's going to be, resulting in things like different jump heights at different framerates.

There's a Godot 3 version as well! Doesn't have the most recent features, but it exits. You might have to grab it off the 3.x branch on github. Can't remember if it's on the asset library, but it might be.

Damn, that was actually a fantastic video. Ive been trying to make a grid fade out and I was afraid I would have to resort to shaders but this video gave me the determination to get it done!
If it's a simple fade, you can actually adjust the alpha (or maybe it's modulate?) on the material without having to make a custom shader, but learning shaders is a useful skill, so go for it! You can do almost unlimited cool things!
@@jitspoe Sorry I meant I wanted only part of the grid to fade out. Ultimately the goal is to have the grid be stationary and be able to move around a point from which the grid fades out around. (So it looks “endless”) Thanks again!

Console commands find binding different key maps is a must, and allowing anyone to create their own subset of commands with aliases, much like how Steam Dev Console works in games like CSGO2, Half-Life, Portal or TF2.
I don't know if I'd ever need this, since I'd probably just learn how to use tool scripts, but I am glad it exists and depending on what I make in the future I'll definitely consider using it.

Feel like this console system could definitely benefit from taking in Godot's logs and such. Aside from that, and the lack of a roll up/roll down animation (like what's in Quake and Half-Life), looks pretty solid.
shaders are scary black magic wizardry, we're all just magical
Maybe the real wizards were the friends we made along the way.

HOW did you do per-texel lighting in Godot? I can't figure out a way to get it to work without artifacts
I need to do a devlog about this at some point, but here are some of the gotchas I remember off the top of my head: 1) I had to use dfdx/dfdy to calculate some things. 2) VERTEX is normalized before being passed to the fragment function, so if you're dealing with interpolated vertex values, you'll have to assign your own vertex value in the fertex function() that's not normalized. 3) Mipmapping can cause issues with some things, so try disabling it. 4) I had to make VERTEX writable by modifying the engine, but Godot 4.3 now has a LIGHT_VERTEX value that can be set instead, so that shouldn't be necessary now.

My childhood! I can't watch it because I'm at work right now, but i saved it for later. It's great to see the game is still actively worked on, although last time I played i couldn't find a populated server. I used to play this game so much on laptop back in the day and made some good friends on mumble - thanks for all the fun memories!
