CAT Scale Rig of the Week | Derek Bridgman
Passion and pride for the trucking profession show through with this standout rig.
Derek Bridgman is a dedicated driver with Mike Anderson Trucking out of Checotah, Oklahoma. His rig, a 1999 Peterbilt 379, was built in the Denton, Texas, plant and is powered by a 6NZ Cat engine with 550 horsepower and an 18-speed transmission.
Derek’s journey into trucking began in his teens at a sod farm in Braggs, Oklahoma. What started as a backup plan quickly became his passion and primary career. For the past 11 years, he’s been with Mike Anderson Trucking, and he speaks highly of the company and its owner.
Derek’s truck, affectionately known as “Poken Fun,” is a company truck that he treats like his own. Its striking orange and black color scheme pays homage to Oklahoma State University (the name Poken Fun is a play on the OSU Cowboys’ rallying cry of “Go Pokes!”).
Originally black with silver fenders, the truck got a makeover inspired by Mike Anderson’s kids, who were attending OSU. The transformation included orange fenders and caps, double-round headlights mounted with Double JJ brackets, and a full LED bulb upgrade.
Notable Poken Fun features include a 22-inch bumper with a 12-gauge bumper lift, new stainless-steel boxes, custom stripes, an eye-catching powder-coated deck plate and brushed stainless-steel fend-ers.
The truck is crowned with a swan hood ornament with orange wings that light up at night, a gift from Derek’s girlfriend.

I've been wondering for years how to get my class A, coming in as a young woman from bus driving. I agree, those company sponsored trucking schools are not really free, because some companies like Werner want to start you out at $10.50 an hour for many months the first year. Welp, God opened the door when I got laid off from bus driving. I now qualified for EDD sponsored trucking school as well as unemployment benefits to help me pay my rent while I study. I could not be more grateful. He is always looking out for me.

DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WON'T DO STORIES ON HOW THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY REALLY IS. IF YOU REALLY WANT TO BE A TRUCKING NEWS CHANNEL THEN REPORT ABOUT THE BROKERS, SHIPPERS, REPAIR SHOPS, INSURANCE COMPANIES, REGULATIONS AND ALL OTHERS THAT MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO OPERATE A TRUCKING COMPANY IN TODAY'S WORLD. THE STORY OF THE PA PIKE OLD NEWS, TRUCKER GETTING BUSTED HAULING DRUGS EVERY DAY NEWS. LOOKING AT HOW MANY PEOPLE OR TRUCKERS THAT DON'T VIEW YOUR'E CHANNEL OR SUBSCRIBE MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT LIKE THE REALITY OF TRUCKING. I'M NOT TALKING OUT MY ASS, BEEN IN TRUCKING FOR OVER 25 YEARS AS AN OWNER OPERATOR AND HAVE BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL. YES IT'S BEEN HARD WORK BUT I AM ONE OF MANY WHO HAVE MADE IT BUT AS WE ALL KNOW MOST DON'T. MAYBE YOU COULD HELP BY LETTING PEOPLE KNOW THE REALITIES OF WHAT'S OUT THERE IN THE TRUCKING WORLD.

ONCE AGAIN YOU FAIL TO REPORT ON WHAT IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW WITH SO MANY DRIVERS PARKING THEIR TRUCKS. THE CORONAVIRUS HAS REALLY HIT THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY HARD YET YOU FAIL TO DO STORIES ON HOW THE BROKERS, INSURANCE COMPANYS, MAJOR TRUCK STOPS STILL CHARGING CRAZY PRICES ON FUEL, NOT BEING ABLE TO GET GRANTS OR LOANS FOR SMALL TRUCKING COMPANYS. DO A STORY OR TWO ON THESE BROKERS RIPPING OFF OWNER OPERATORS WHO USE LOAD BOARDS TO FIND FREIGHT AND ARE LOOKING AT RATES THAT WON'T EVEN COVER FUEL COST FOR A LOAD. YOUR'E CHANNEL HAS BECOME A FEEL GOOD SALES CHANNEL REALLY NOT DIRECTED AT THE OWNER OPERATOR WHO MOVE MOST OF THE FREIGHT IN THIS COUNTRY. I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE, DO STORIES THAT SHOW TRUCKERS AND THE PUBLIC HOW TRUCKING REALLY IS OUT THERE AND I BET YOU GET MORE VIEWERS AND LIKES AND SUBSCRIBERS TO YOUR'E CHANNEL. DO YOUR'E SELF A FAVOR AND GO TO TRUCK STOPS AND INTERVIEW TRUCKERS NOT FROM THE BIG FREIGHT COMPANY'S BUT THE LITTLE GUY WHO HAS BEEN AT IT FOR MANY YEARS AND YOU WILL FIND OUT HOW THE REALITY IN THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY.

That 4wheeler probably did some 4 wheeler stuff and slammed on it's brakes as the driver was changing lanes. 4 wheelers do dumb spitefully things jus to gain a lawsuit. Little do they realize that they cannot sue if they are dead.. on that note, even if I see the driver I wouldn't say nothing! ELD is your enemy. When you get held up at the shipper or receiver, 2 hours here 3 hours there, & maybe you've rested up during, but your clock is still ticking, and you cannot reclaim that time back, causing drivers to rush and be less safe trying to beat the clock. GPS tracking your every move, cameras up everywhere, interstates and all weigh stations. You're 30 minutes away from your destination and you're out of time now. 10 hours down, and now you have to wait till the next day to deliver that load. Try and buck the system, but now they can say, "we have you on camera coming through our way station at X 'oclock, you falsified your log" now pay up! You not only missed a few hours from having to wait till the next day to deliver, but now you have a fine on top of that. You my friend cannot change your ELD log, & if you do, they can show on their end what they have recorded. Point being, more unlawful freedom's being taken away from hardworking citizens, bending you over the barrel further, not giving you a leg to stand on. Eld's open the door up wide for many ways to cut your check, & to put under / out of business, smaller mom-and-pop operations, & independent owner op's, & MANY operating equipment much older than 2 or 3 years old, although yet may be safe, but still, chances of equipment breaking down, lost time, much greater. Sure I would like a nice new truck, but I would rather have an older one, without the def, without 100 sensors/amission mechanicals that give problems all the time, & or maybe it's a financial thing that fits more my budget. -kind of like the fast food chains, & the Walmart s, putting all the small mom and pops out of business. Tyranny at its finest. These criminals created the eld's and put the rules in place, & "all" need to be reversed.

I find it amazing that you don't say nothing about how many truckers "owner operators" are really hurting right now. In the news the trucker is the hero right now but the truth is the freight being delivered right now is the same every day freight to your'e retail stores and your'e shipping warehouses. Yes we thank those truckers. The truth is most of that freight is done by mega carries. Look at the load boards, if you are a small company or a 1 truck owner operator under your'e own authority your'e getting killed right now. Maybe if you do a story or two on how the brokers, the mega truck stops, the repair shops, the insurance company's, and the lawyers who are sticking it to truckers every day of the year. Yes right now the trucker is the hero but once this pandemic is over it will go back to what it was and what it's been. To all truckers THANK YOU ! To the owner operator who knows the reality hang strong things will get better. To the TRUCKERS NEWS CHANNEL if you want viewers and subscribers please report the truth in trucking. Remember 70% of trucking is companies that are 10 trucks or less and most are owner operators and i think they are the people you wan't watching your'e channel.

Like folks who owned horse and buggys. Cardls wouldn't take jobs for a while. Autonomous trucks are only a matter of time.

By far the best option[currently] is the "dock to driver program" offered at SAIA. It will be your first AND last job you retire from!

I qualified for a grant through St. Louis Community College. I got my training and CDL completely free with no strings attached.

Great!!!! This is a totally viable option and we should have included it in the video! Thanks and hopefully people will read the comments!

@@thetrucker7001 So I applied to a trucking school near me its called the National Tractor Trailer School and have been in contact, I have a phone interview next week. It's in upstate NY, about a hour and a half from home. I'm not at the point where I will apply to see if i can get the financial aid/student loan yet but I will most likely qualify. I'm just worried from many videos ive seen where people say once you get the license that the pay for jobs is bad. I dont want to waste my time choosing this career path if its not going to be worth it, I'm single and no kids so I dont have those responsibilities yet. I dont have a full time job currently. I would like to do this if its worth it, Any information would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
