I love this video and its message. I got into souls games after getting elden ring and of course getting a moonlit waifu in the process. I got Dark Souls 1 about a month ago and have loved my playthrough until I hit a wall with Ornstein and Smough. Its funny cos in preparation for Elden Rings DLC I've rolled up a new character there which has taken everything I've learned from my DS1 playthrough into it. It's been a cakewalk getting everything ready for that DLC yet, my DS1 character has been in the back of my mind. Even in my day to day activities I can't help but feel them going hollow. It's simultaneously the point of quitting and the point of perseverance. Anyways man I vibed with that discussion cheers for the vid.

a lot of people say Dark Souls helped with their depression, but in my case, it helped with my gaming addiciton. It's kind of paradoxical that a game would help with gaming addiction but my state of "Hollowness" was not about giving up, it was the opposite, never being able to separate myself from the games I played (including Dark Souls), obsessing about them, and so on. I was going Hollow because games consumed all my mental capacities and started interfering with everyday life. If I hadn't met with the concept of "Hollowing" in Dark Souls and hadn't made that connection when I had to take a good, hard look at my life, I could've lost my girlfriend, my job, everything. I wrote Andre's version of this video's title, "Neither of us want to see you go Hollow", under my left palm every morning for a long, long to remind myself what I stand to lose and that there are people there who care about me, well, having Humanity left :)

I would say that this game absolutely wants you to quit. It wants to break you, but the developers want you to succeed. They created a trial, not merely a game, and it is incredibly unforgiving if you do not learn what it wants to teach you.

Remember, all the ones who stop playing souls games after their failures are truly Hollow. And the ones who overcome their challenges and prevail are the true Chosen Undead!

the only time i wanted to quit dark souls was when i reached taurus demon, idk why but i struggled so much with him, i'd always bring him down to like 2 or 3 hits from death and i'd die, and the run back to the boss didn't help my frustrations either, so i decided i'd quit it, i even deleted the game for like half a year, then one day, i decided, hmm, maybe i should give dark souls another shot, and i did, after i got back, i beat the taurus demon in like 2 tries, it gave me so much confidence i didn't even think about quitting at all through my whole playthrough, bed of chaos was almost as infuriating as that first time i fought taurus demon tho

The crazy thing is that when we stop playing Dark Souls for the rest of our lives, our characters turn hollow. It makes the world feel more real than any other game I’ve ever played.

I struggled for a real long time with depression and really bad anxiety for a large part of my life. It still comes back every now and then when things get hard and I can feel myself starting to slip. But throughout it all I’ve come back to dark souls 1,2 and 3 more times than I can count. It’s a game that’s always been there for me and reminded me that even if shit gets hard and it feels like you try your hardest just to get knocked down again that so long as you don’t give up you’ll make it in the end. I still struggle with feeling like I’m wasting my time or like I’m stuck at a job I hate just trying to scrape by but I know that so long as I just keep pushing someday it’ll get better. I finally got “Don’t You Dare Go Hollow” tattooed on me at the start of the year to match a Solaire piece I’ve got on my arm to serve as a constant reminder that I need to keep pushing. I’m sure everyone out there is struggling with something and I promise your not alone. I hope you all keep doing your best and never give up. You can do so much more than you realize and have more people cheering you on than you’ll ever know.

Still haven't touched Elden Ring since the time I booted it up Oct. 20th. How y'all go back to these games tho..... Maybe it's because of my work routine that I feel afraid of trying Soulslike Since failing at my job means either product wasted or possible dangerous reactions. It is funny tho. I have played, finished and platinumed both Gravity Rush games, a series which prob has 50 fans. And I can't play a Souls game.

Pain is the way to learn about life and Souls game teach you that, i am new in Dark Souls, and i hope i didn't go hollow myself, just go YOLO and die that is the way of many Souls warrior

6:17 My first playthrough I had JUST made it at the shortcut under the hellkite Drake and I was making my way to the rats underneath. Well a player invaded me (keep this in mind this was 2 weeks before DS2 come out) and invited me to Xboxs chat instead of a party. Well i never accept those but I did this time. He came to me and I was prepared to kill as this was my 3rd time being invaded (my first invasion story is amazing... invader vs sunbro) and he said he was gonna give me equipment in the game. I said ok but are we gonna fight, he said "let me take a look" small pause "even with the stuff I give you, you won't stand a chance... go ahead and try to kill me". Turns out he was a hacker that gave me nearly feather weighted havel set and pretty much a unbreakable crystal greatsword that did was maxed out. That playthrough let me experience dark souls relatively easy even though I had no clue what I was doing. Allowing me to take my time and explore as the actual danger wasn't all that scary anymore.

Five years ago, a friend of mine ended his life. He was just so infatuated with Dark Souls. I remember the night I visited his house, and all sirens and lights. He didn't have any family; just a nice italian man that he paid rent to. Even if me, and that Italian man, were footnotes in his mind when he was pulling the trigger, we'll never know. But as I was going through his stuff; old games, books, movies, poems... everything he owned, his internet search history stuck out to me. The last video he ever watched was the ending where they lit the fire and sort of just... existed. All alone, a small fire flickering in a darkened world. Something about it still really sticks with me, prods me with questions without warning. Questions I never really want to answer; at least not in the same way he answered them. I know how fucked up this is going to sound, but cherish their suicide note. I never got one, so I'm still left reeling all these years later.

My first souls game was dark souls 2, id gotten hard stuck on the belfry gargoyles, i dropped the game for nearly a year. when i came back id go on to beat the game with a +2 great club and base level armor, id simply forgotten the black Smith being all but 2 steps away.

This game tells you "this is your destiny. You cannot escape it, you cannot fight it." and then turns around and says "but try to anyway!"

Funny thing is. I played dark souls 3 first and before that monster hunter 4 ultimate (mostly rewards skill inspired dark souls similar mechanics) Dark souls 1 i played after that and i didn't find it as difficult as my playthrough of 3. I third tried ornstein and smough my first run of ds1. Dark souls rewards skill and it carries between games.. and some of that skill carries over into other game series especially monster hunter and king's field. Cuz mhw fatalis was much easier than i thought he'd be. I killed over 50 risen shagaru in rise. I solo'd midir, and fatalis(world). needless to say the experience is timeless. I got introduced to the series via a friend and now i'm enjoying king's field. It's basically the other half to dark souls. Themes, poison areas, a dark gritty rpg made by fromsoft. whilst the other half is monster hunter rolling, healing items taking a bit to use, a lot of unique weapons to tinker around with beating the crap out of things with a massive blunt weapon.
