Now, what about his jig stick - Harnell 542, 540, 724? Truline D8? Or something more modern? Old school reel may be the Penn 99 with the Jigmaster sideplate, but we love the details.
Last time I fished with John in a surface iron scenario, he was using a Calstar 90J with a Newell 338
The eyeball😭
I’m pissed I didn’t get this out of my ling
It needs to be big enough to be worthwhile, but if it is...now you know
@@socalsalty how big was this one? Mine was 30in. Don’t know if that’s big enough
@@jcgarcia1039 good enough to get a couple nice scallops
@@socalsalty dangggggggg
This would've been way better if you used Fringehead
Like walleye only way more meat! Wish these were fresh water fish!!
I've caught both in Montana. You can go ling fishing for about 2 weeks out of the year. At night. Was the only time I ever seen one. And as far as Walleye goes, I caught one once by accident at the Yellowtail damn. I didn't know what it was. I told my ex husband that either he would take it off my hook or it was going back in, pole and all. It had more teeth than I did. Razor sharp. Not me. 😂😂😂
@@yvettebowles9011 Best game fish money can buy. Tons of Yankees head north of the border to fish them!
Nice!
Do any stores carry that color still?
No stores probably ever did. John loves to special order jigs so he has the only one 😂
Nothing whatsoever in this video about how to find OR rig sand crabs.
I’m sorry showing exactly what to look for in the water and how to hook them didn’t meet your needs. Perhaps if you left Wisconsin and visit an ocean it would make more sense to you
@@socalsalty I live 30 minutes from Moss Landing. And I grew up here.
Sand crabs up there are the size of a chicken egg. You must’ve sucked at Easter egg hunting
Where did you get the boat?
Where could one purchase the star type screwdriver that Kevin uses to take off the side plate?
Wish I knew. Sorry
Ok thank you 🙏
I really2 enjoy your video Keep spirit
Thank you. We did end up getting into the bluefin. Great trip!
Pescati un paio di palle nuove ne avresti bisogno.... Lascia in pace i pesci....
I love those
Gotta love Newport
Looks like Astoria
Yo-ho yo-ho the pangan life for me
Buzzys father showed me that when I was a kid on the prowler I'm 63 now
East coasters call it freelining as far as I know it’s always been freelining live bait. Is there a difference ?
Hadn’t heard that before. You guys also call mahi mahi dolphin. We call them dorado. Just an East/West thing I guess.
Great music ! Not tired anymore , watching boring videos ! Thanks
Nice joe
Nice 👍 explained
Wait a minute! Am I really seeing what I think I'm seeing?!!!!! Catching squid out on the Spitfire?!! Omg, no way!!!! Lmao. Thats trippin' all right. Never, not once when I worked on the old spitfire out there did we catch big squid. We used frozen and sometimes live squid for bait but........ Lmao, would have loved to be there to witness this.
thank you for the video
I have a play on the handle of exsence dc 2012 model how to fix it
Mostly out of focus. Can’t see what he’s doing
Sorry that the video is 6 years old and I wasn't able to setup a multi-camera system in a full galley
I’ve seen the dude in the LA hat before
“It’s just that simple.”
dang joe. looks alott better in video. and with bgm. lol. nice 👍
Loved everything ,, But not Brine in metal ,, YUK.. Glass , plastic , even wood bowl,, Never Metal & salt.. 40 year Alaskan. Fish smoker. kodibass
Thanks man. I learned it from another Alaskan, former college roommate. Great tip!
Lift UP slow, wind in fast going down. My favorite saying as well. Let the gear do the work it was designed to do. Thanks for the verbal reminder.
Fun!
Pretty out of my element on the river, but I found a good mentor up here
Nice job Joe!
Do you always wire your surface iron
John does. I only do when fishing the kelp line
It helps a lot when there's no current and the fish get more picky. If you're fishing the up current side of any structure when the current is right, you can catch fish on anything. Just look at some of the lures from the 50's and 60's that caught a ton of yellows, WSB, etc... pretty funky looking. Ever see a hoochie toad?
I miss that and viter
Thank you great info
Great Video!
Wow I thought that knife was electric at first from the video sound. But it's just sharp as hell. That's a awesome piece of meat from that Ling.
Excellent video! When targeting yellowtail with live bait is there a preferred type of hook used? I've seen people fish with different types of hooks and I like to know their differences. Can you share some advice?
Yellows don't have teeth, so you want to use a bait style hook (J hook, not circle), that's appropriate to the size of the bait being used. In general, I typically use from say 1 to 2/0. Good luck out there
Appreciate the way this guy instructs,. Clean and simple with little wasted effort or words. Thanks Cap....
One of the best, clearest explanations I’ve ever seen! And, I’ve seen countless!
Great content! Check out our account and sub if you like
Sick!!! Those are some solid beans, Where at? hoping to get my fix in soon, heard they closed the beaches but hopefully we can get back out into the surf in the near future.
In Malibu. They shutoff a bunch of the access points, but it’s open. If you’re willing to walk and know what you’re looking for, they’re around. Find bait and structure, and you’ll find fish
@@socalsalty nice, thats good info. thx. I was at corral canyon a week ago but skunked
Well done
Wow that's crazy amazing.
love this boat
Beautiful fish.
The LING GOD ! Bow your heads mortals ! Socalsalty is in the house ! Atta boy Joe 💪 great video brother !
The garage should be a tourist destination for fisherman. I'd charge people just to look at that. Extra ten bucks to get five minutes alone.
I remember my own sense of wonder the first time I saw it.
Amazing video!
Awesome! Watching one of the best in the light line game do his thing!
Crappy camera work
