This quest is so sad, because everything Stanley says and feels is heavily implied to be the way Venti feels or at least once felt as well. Venti keeps his emotions under lock and key. Partially because he cannot share them without revealing secrets, and partially because he's so focused on the emotions of others. He never says a word regarding his own negative feelings, but through his stories and his habits (drinking), you can see them. He's been alive for so long, so he captures the stories and deeds of the past in song, to perserve their memory. That's why he's a bard. He lives to tell stories-just like Hans. And there's even more to him than that. He's such a great character and he doesn't ever really get credit for that.
